Centre Asks UPSC to Cancel Lateral Entry Ad, Reviews Process to Include Quotas

0

On Tuesday, the Centre directed Preeti Sudan, Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), to withdraw the recent advertisement for lateral hiring at various government positions. The notification, published on Saturday, had sparked controversy. In an official communication, Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh emphasized that while lateral hiring, including candidates from the private sector, was first introduced by the Congress-led government in 2005, Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes this process must align with the principles of equity and social justice as enshrined in the Indian Constitution.

Following Singh’s letter, the UPSC promptly issued a press release, stating that the advertisement dated August 17 has been cancelled.

In his letter, Singh criticized the previous Congress governments, alleging that key positions, such as secretaries in various ministries and leadership roles at UIDAI, were filled through lateral entry without proper procedures. He further accused the National Advisory Council of running a “super-bureaucracy” that influenced the Prime Minister’s Office, leading to favoritism in appointments. Singh stated that the current government has worked to make the process more transparent, institutionally driven, and open.

Prime Minister Modi considers reservation in public employment a “cornerstone of our social justice framework,” Singh noted, stressing the importance of respecting the constitutional mandate to ensure proper representation of marginalized communities. He urged the UPSC to review and incorporate this provision in any future notifications, leading to the cancellation of the current advertisement.

Notably, the Janata Dal (United) and the Lok Janshakti Party, both partners in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), also opposed the move, advocating for the inclusion of reservation provisions in government appointments. The UPSC had initially invited applications to fill 45 posts in central government offices on a contractual basis for three years.

The issue quickly escalated into a political battle between the Opposition and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with the Opposition accusing the BJP of attempting to sidestep the reservation system, which ensures representation for OBCs, SCs, and STs in government institutions.

Reacting to the Centre’s latest directive, the Congress and other INDIA parties welcomed the decision but claimed that the government was compelled to retract the notice due to mounting pressure from the Opposition.

Heavy Rains Prompt School Holidays in Ranga Reddy District, Hyderabad Schools Remain Open

0

Hyderabad :- In light of continuous rains within the GHMC limits of Ranga Reddy district, the district administration has declared a holiday for schools on Tuesday. Meanwhile, headmasters in the remaining rural areas of the district have been instructed to assess the condition of school buildings and road connectivity. They may declare a holiday if deemed necessary.

However, Hyderabad district administration has decided not to declare a holiday for schools in the city. “We have not declared a holiday for schools in Hyderabad,” stated Rohini, DEO Hyderabad.

The School Education Department has reportedly directed district administrations to declare holidays based on local conditions. Yesterday, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri recorded the highest rainfall at 170.3 mm, while Khairatabad in Hyderabad saw 126.8 mm. Consequently, several schools in Hyderabad have opted to declare a holiday today.

Though the recent heavy rainfall has brought much-needed relief from intense heat and humidity, it has also posed challenges for residents. Waterlogging has become a significant issue across Hyderabad, with roads submerged in low-lying areas, causing traffic disruptions and inconvenience for commuters.

Aside from declaring school holidays, it remains to be seen what steps the government will take to mitigate the difficulties faced by the public. Yesterday, just one hour of rain turned all roads into lakes, with motorcycles and cars submerged in water. The public is also advised to plan their activities and take precautions in anticipation of the rain.

Hyderabad: Recent heavy rainfall has brought both relief from the intense heat and new challenges for Hyderabad residents. The city is grappling with widespread waterlogging, submerging roads in several low-lying areas and causing significant traffic disruptions.

Overflowing potholes are making roads hazardous, leading to minor accidents and driver frustration. In response, the traffic police have advised commuters to avoid the Shaikpet flyover. The Gachibowli-Narsingi-Langer House-Mehdipatnam route is also heavily affected, resulting in severe traffic jams and delays.

Residents are turning to social media to voice their frustrations, sharing images and videos of submerged streets and traffic congestion. Travelers are advised to seek alternative routes to minimize inconvenience.

Additionally, water leakage was reported at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) terminal on August 19, following the recent rains. A video circulating on social media showed passengers navigating through the terminal as water dripped from the roof. This incident has raised concerns about the airport’s infrastructure resilience during extreme weather.

Hyderabad Airport authorities acknowledged the issue, stating that there was no significant leakage or water stagnation. They assured that technical experts are being consulted to prevent future occurrences.

Not only in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, but heavy rainfall has also caused widespread difficulties across several districts in Telangana. Many people have faced hardships, with RTC buses, motorcycles, and cars seen submerged in water on the roads.

Residents needing assistance are encouraged to call the GHMC helpline at 040-21111111 or 9000113667 for support from the Disaster Response Force.

Maulana Arshad Madani Warns of Serious Consequences from Government’s Intentions on Waqf Amendment Bill

0

New Delhi: The first meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 is scheduled for August 22. Prior to this, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has launched a campaign against the bill. The organization is strongly opposed to the Waqf Amendment Bill and its members are meeting with opposition party leaders and JPC members. During these meetings, the Jamiat delegation is highlighting the harmful and erroneous amendments in the bill and explaining the negative impacts it could have on Muslims, including how it could lead to the loss of Waqf properties.

According to a statement from the Jamiat, this series of meetings is ongoing at both national and state levels. Recently, a Jamiat delegation from Maharashtra met with JPC members Mahatre Baliye Mama (NCP Sharad Pawar) and Arvind Sawant (Shiv Sena UBT) in Mumbai. Additionally, a joint delegation from the Jamiat and the All India Muslim Personal Law Board is scheduled to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on August 20. Jamiat members are also meeting with political leaders and JPC members in Bihar and other states to discuss the bill’s flaws and harmful provisions.

The statement further noted that Jamiat members are engaging with NDA allied parties like Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), and Janata Dal (United) to draw attention to the dangerous clauses introduced in the new bill through amendments to the old one.

In the release, Jamiat stated that they are providing detailed information to JPC members about the amendments made to Waqf laws since independence. Jamiat President Maulana Arshad Madani criticized the government’s intentions, stating that the purpose of the amendment bill is not to protect Waqf properties but to deprive Muslims of this significant heritage. He accused the government of wanting to destroy both the purpose and status of Waqf properties.

KTR: Rajiv Gandhi Statue to Go, Hyderabad Airport to Be Renamed

0

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao announced on Monday, that the party plans to rename all significant locations across Telangana after prominent figures from the state. This move comes in response to the recent installation of a Rajiv Gandhi statue in front of the Secretariat by the Congress party, which KTR criticized as an attempt to undermine Telangana’s pride and existence.

“The Congress, responsible for the deaths of hundreds, is now trying to tarnish the pride of our state by erecting this statue. Rest assured, the BRS will regain power, and four years from now, KCR will be the chief minister once again,” KTR asserted.

KTR went on to say that once the BRS forms the government, the Rajiv Gandhi statue will be removed from its current location and placed wherever the Congress chooses. “In its place, we will install a Telangana Talli statue in front of the Secretariat,” he remarked.

KTR further accused the Congress of committing “grave injustice” to Telangana and vowed to rename Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad after a prominent Telangana figure. “Across India, key locations are named after significant personalities from their respective states, like Chatrapati Shivaji in Mumbai and Kempegowda in Bengaluru. But in Hyderabad, monuments and institutions are named after Rajiv Gandhi. The Congress’s decision to place his statue in the Secretariat is a ‘cheap’ move, and we will not tolerate it,” KTR stated.

He emphasized that the BRS has not altered the numerous Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi statues and areas in Hyderabad but insisted that the statue in front of the Secretariat must be removed. “The Congress is used to taking orders from Delhi. The BRS doesn’t have such compulsions. We will rename all the locations as soon as we come to power,” he declared.

Addressing concerns about women’s safety in Telangana, KTR criticized the Congress, stating, “Women’s safety has deteriorated since the Congress assumed power. The Shadnagar case, where a Dalit woman was assaulted by the police, is just one example. It was only after BRS leaders intervened that the officer was suspended. There are numerous other incidents of atrocities against women in Telangana.”

KTR also questioned the effectiveness of the police in ensuring the safety of women and children. “The state needs a peaceful environment, something the Congress is incapable of providing. The government doesn’t know how to manage the rising number of murders in Hyderabad and has yet to appoint a home minister for Telangana,” he said.

KTR urged the Congress to learn from the BRS’s initiatives like She Teams, Bharosa centers, the women’s safety wing, and She Shuttles. He also referenced the demand by doctors in Kolkata for similar measures to those taken by the BRS government in the Disha case, following the rape and murder of a doctor. “The Congress should study how we handled such situations and implement similar measures,” KTR concluded.
