Dallas, Texas: A significant community gathering was organized in anticipation of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s forthcoming visit to the United States. The event, held under the leadership of Mr. Mohinder Singh Gilzian, President of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) USA, and Mr. Gurdev Singh Hayer, Working President for the South-West, drew around 50 participants representing various Indian states.
The atmosphere at the meeting was charged with enthusiasm, as attendees engaged in discussions on how best to welcome Mr. Gandhi to Dallas. The organizers emphasized the importance of community collaboration to ensure the success of his visit, which has generated substantial excitement and support.
Rahul Gandhi is scheduled for his first international tour as Leader of the Opposition, embarking on a week-long trip to the US in early September. His itinerary includes addressing the Indian diaspora, interacting with students at prestigious institutions, and meeting US lawmakers.
According to sources, Gandhi is expected to depart India on September 7, with his US visit lasting until September 14-15. His engagements will span multiple cities, including Washington DC, New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Texas. Notably, he is slated to interact with students at the University of Texas at Austin and Howard University in Washington DC.
A Congress leader mentioned, “In every city, we plan to hold a diaspora event and meet with business leaders, along with a dinner organized by the Indian Overseas Congress. In Washington DC, there will be meetings with lawmakers from both Republican and Democratic parties.”
Howard University, one of the institutions where Gandhi will speak, is notably the alma mater of US Vice President and Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Sam Pitroda, who has resumed his role as head of the Indian Overseas Congress, is reportedly coordinating these engagements. “There is a growing interest in Indian politics in the US, especially after the elections,” added a Congress leader. Gandhi’s last visit to the US took place in May of the previous year.
