Telangana Government Grants Authority to District Collectors for School Closures Amid Severe Weather

0

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has taken decisive action in response to the severe weather conditions wreaking havoc across the state. Recognizing the potential risks posed to students and school staff, CM Reddy has granted district collectors the authority to make immediate decisions regarding school closures. This directive comes at a critical time, as heavy rains and widespread flooding continue to disrupt daily life and pose significant safety concerns.

The Chief Minister’s directive is rooted in the government’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of students. It emphasizes the need for district authorities to closely monitor local conditions, including the state of roads, the severity of flooding, and ongoing weather forecasts. With these factors in mind, district collectors are tasked with determining whether schools should remain open, be temporarily closed, or operate under alternative arrangements to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The directive has been issued in response to the relentless rains that have been pounding Telangana for days, causing rivers to swell, roads to become impassable, and significant disruptions to daily activities. The government’s primary concern is the safety of students who may face dangerous conditions while traveling to and from school. By allowing district collectors to make decisions based on real-time assessments, the state aims to prevent any accidents or mishaps that could arise from hazardous travel conditions.

Moreover, the Chief Minister’s decision highlights the government’s proactive approach to managing the impact of natural disasters on the education system. It is an acknowledgment of the unpredictable nature of weather patterns and the necessity of localized decision-making to address the specific needs of each district. CM Reddy’s directive empowers local officials to act swiftly and decisively, ensuring that students are not exposed to unnecessary risks.

Parents and school administrators have been advised to stay alert and closely follow announcements from district authorities regarding school operations. This communication is vital, as it ensures that families are informed of any changes in school schedules and can make appropriate arrangements for their children’s safety.

In addition to safeguarding students, the government’s directive also considers the broader impact on educational activities. By providing the flexibility to close schools or implement alternative measures, the state is ensuring that learning can continue in a safe and effective manner, even during challenging weather conditions.

The decision by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is a clear indication of the Telangana government’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of its citizens. As the state continues to navigate through this period of severe weather, the government’s actions demonstrate a balanced approach to managing the immediate crisis while maintaining a focus on the continuity of education.

This directive is expected to be in place for the duration of the adverse weather conditions, with district collectors continuously evaluating the situation and making decisions accordingly. The government’s preparedness and responsive measures are being seen as crucial steps in mitigating the risks posed by the ongoing natural calamities.

Karnataka Government Restores Minority Scholarship Scheme Cut by BJP

0

Hubli: The Karnataka Congress government, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has reinstated the minority scholarship scheme previously abolished by the BJP. Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan announced the restoration during the inauguration of a new building for the Government Maulana Azad Pre-University College for minorities in Hubli’s Sadashivanagar on Sunday.

The BJP had suspended the scholarship scheme for minority students in 2023, but the Congress government has now revived it. The renewed scheme will provide scholarships worth ₹5 lakh to approximately 1,300 medical students. Additionally, the Congress administration has approved ₹80 crore for scholarships for minority students.

The new college building, funded under the Mahatma Gandhi Urban Development Scheme, was constructed at an estimated cost of ₹12.438 crore within the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation area. The facility includes six classrooms, an office, and restrooms for boys and girls.

Minister Khan emphasized the need to improve educational standards among minorities, criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogans of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (Together with All, Development for All) as lacking sincerity. He accused the BJP of dividing Hindus and Muslims for political gain.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also announced plans to provide subsidized housing for the poor in the state. Funding for 36,700 homes has already been released, with an additional 37,000 homes to be distributed in the near future. A statewide survey of the homeless is ongoing, and the government aims to provide homes to all displaced individuals.

The event was attended by Karnataka Slum Development Board Chairman and MLA Prasad Abaya, District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Swaroopa T.K., HDMC Commissioner Eshwar Olgadi, and other officials.

RSS’s Endorsement of Caste-Based Census Poses Challenge for BJP to Backtrack Amid Opposition Pressure

0

New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has signaled its support for a caste-based census, creating a new challenge for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to oppose the measure amidst mounting opposition pressure. In a recent development, the RSS expressed its positive stance on the issue but emphasized that the census should not be used for political or electoral gains. The organization also stated that any steps towards sub-categorization of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes should only be taken with the consent of the concerned communities.

This announcement was made by Sunil Ambekar, the head of RSS publicity, during the final day of the three-day All India Coordination Meeting in Palakkad, Kerala.

The demand for a caste-based census has been gaining momentum, particularly among parties within the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), as well as certain National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies. Parties like the Janata Dal (United) and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), which are part of the NDA government, have also shown a favorable attitude towards the caste census. Several BJP leaders have expressed support for the idea at various times.

Despite the growing calls for such a census, the BJP has not officially opposed it. However, the opposition has sought to create a perception among the public that the BJP is against both the caste-based census and caste-based reservations, especially by promising a caste census in their manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This narrative has led to confusion and concern among the electorate, with some fearing that a BJP-led government might abolish reservations, a factor that contributed to the party’s reduced seats in certain areas.

With the RSS now giving its green light to the caste-based census, it is likely that the BJP-led central government may soon introduce a format for conducting it. The RSS, by labeling the caste census as a welfare measure, has effectively provided the BJP with a way to address the diverse communities within Hinduism and take a middle path to satisfy various factions.

Ambekar emphasized that the RSS has consistently worked towards Hindu unity as well as national integrity. He highlighted that as the nation celebrates the 75th anniversary of its Constitution, it is essential to uphold the principles of justice, equality, and fraternity. He also stressed that brotherhood is crucial for ensuring the integrity of the nation.

Historically, the RSS has been associated with the belief in the Varna system, which has led many to view the organization as a proponent of Brahminical order. However, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat made a surprising statement during a book release event in 2022, asserting that concepts like Varna and caste should be completely discarded. Bhagwat emphasized that anything that causes division should be thrown out entirely.

RSS supports a caste-based census, challenging BJP’s stance amid opposition pressure, while emphasizing welfare and national unity.

To support the districts most severely affected by the flooding, including Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, and Suryapet, the Chief Minister announced the immediate release of ₹5 crores to each of these districts under the Contingency Fund.

Revanth Reddy also emphasized the need for a 24-hour response system across the state, particularly in district centers. He directed all officials to remain vigilant, conduct field visits, and ensure that there are no disruptions in the distribution and supply of essential goods. To prevent traffic issues and further complications, the CM ordered that measures be taken to keep roads clear and functioning.

The Chief Minister also addressed the need for federal assistance, instructing officials to compile and submit preliminary reports on the damage from all departments. He requested that the central government declare the floods a national disaster and urged the Prime Minister to personally visit Telangana to assess the situation and expedite aid.

Earlier that day, the Chief Minister, along with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, visited the flood-affected Khammam district. They inspected the damaged bridge and road in Nayakanigudem, near Khammam town, and assessed the damage to the Paleru Left Canal and nearby agricultural fields. The Chief Minister’s convoy visited Nayakanigudem, near Khammam town, where a damaged bridge and road were among the critical infrastructure affected by the flooding. The inspection included a thorough evaluation of the site to determine the extent of the damage and the immediate steps required for restoration.

The district of Khammam has been severely impacted by the flooding of the Munneru River, which overflowed its banks on Sunday due to heavy rains in the catchment area. KTR Criticizes Rahul Gandhi Over Congress’s Handling of Telangana Floods

0

Hyderabad: KT Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has sharply criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the response of the Congress government in Telangana to the recent floods. In a statement on Monday, Rama Rao accused Gandhi of misrepresenting the state government’s efforts and failing to address the inadequacies in relief operations during the ongoing crisis.

Rama Rao challenged Gandhi’s assertions of ‘tireless efforts’ by the Congress government, highlighting that, contrary to these claims, the state’s response has been characterized by insufficient relief measures and a lack of accountability. “Rahul Ji, your government and the Chief Minister have failed the people of Telangana and their mandate,” Rama Rao asserted. He emphasized that Gandhi’s calls for action were insufficient, demanding that he ensure the Congress government in Telangana takes effective steps to address the disaster and assumes responsibility for the failures.

Rama Rao criticized the Congress leadership for its perceived negligence, which he argues has led to a significant erosion of public trust in Telangana’s governance. “If you truly care about Telangana as much as you claim, instances of gross negligence and deliberate harm would not be occurring,” he said. He contended that the Congress party’s failure has undermined the vision for Telangana and exacerbated the ongoing crisis.

Furthermore, the BRS leader questioned the role of an elected government if it fails to support its citizens during such critical times. “What is the purpose of an elected government if people are left to fend for themselves during a crisis, rather than receiving timely aid?” Rama Rao asked. He placed the blame for the perceived systemic failure squarely on the Congress Party, arguing that it has left people to rely on prayers for relief rather than effective government intervention.

Rama Rao’s remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of the Congress government’s handling of the flood situation, as pressure mounts for a more robust and accountable response to the disaster.
