Hyderabad: KT Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has sharply criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the response of the Congress government in Telangana to the recent floods. In a statement on Monday, Rama Rao accused Gandhi of misrepresenting the state government’s efforts and failing to address the inadequacies in relief operations during the ongoing crisis.
Rama Rao challenged Gandhi’s assertions of ‘tireless efforts’ by the Congress government, highlighting that, contrary to these claims, the state’s response has been characterized by insufficient relief measures and a lack of accountability. “Rahul Ji, your government and the Chief Minister have failed the people of Telangana and their mandate,” Rama Rao asserted. He emphasized that Gandhi’s calls for action were insufficient, demanding that he ensure the Congress government in Telangana takes effective steps to address the disaster and assumes responsibility for the failures.
Rama Rao criticized the Congress leadership for its perceived negligence, which he argues has led to a significant erosion of public trust in Telangana’s governance. “If you truly care about Telangana as much as you claim, instances of gross negligence and deliberate harm would not be occurring,” he said. He contended that the Congress party’s failure has undermined the vision for Telangana and exacerbated the ongoing crisis.
Furthermore, the BRS leader questioned the role of an elected government if it fails to support its citizens during such critical times. “What is the purpose of an elected government if people are left to fend for themselves during a crisis, rather than receiving timely aid?” Rama Rao asked. He placed the blame for the perceived systemic failure squarely on the Congress Party, arguing that it has left people to rely on prayers for relief rather than effective government intervention.
Rama Rao’s remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of the Congress government’s handling of the flood situation, as pressure mounts for a more robust and accountable response to the disaster.
