Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accompanied by key officials, conducted a thorough review of the damage caused by the recent heavy rains and floods in the state. The review meeting, held on Monday, September 2, included Ministers Sridhar Babu, Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari, DGP Jitender, and senior officials from all departments. The Chief Minister took several crucial decisions to address the devastation and provide immediate relief to affected communities.
During the meeting, CM Revanth Reddy announced an increase in the ex gratia payment to the families of those who lost their lives due to the heavy rains and floods. The compensation has been raised from ₹4 lakhs to ₹5 lakhs, with instructions to deliver this assistance to the affected families without delay. Additionally, the financial aid for livestock losses has also been increased. The compensation for each deceased milch animal has been raised from ₹30,000 to ₹50,000, and for each dead goat or sheep, the aid has been increased from ₹3,000 to ₹5,000.
For agricultural losses, the Chief Minister ordered the immediate provision of ₹10,000 per acre as compensation for crop damage caused by the floods. To support the districts most severely affected by the flooding, including Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, and Suryapet, the Chief Minister announced the immediate release of ₹5 crores to each of these districts under the Contingency Fund.
Revanth Reddy also emphasized the need for a 24-hour response system across the state, particularly in district centers. He directed all officials to remain vigilant, conduct field visits, and ensure that there are no disruptions in the distribution and supply of essential goods. To prevent traffic issues and further complications, the CM ordered that measures be taken to keep roads clear and functioning.
The Chief Minister also addressed the need for federal assistance, instructing officials to compile and submit preliminary reports on the damage from all departments. He requested that the central government declare the floods a national disaster and urged the Prime Minister to personally visit Telangana to assess the situation and expedite aid.
Earlier that day, the Chief Minister, along with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, visited the flood-affected Khammam district. They inspected the damaged bridge and road in Nayakanigudem, near Khammam town, and assessed the damage to the Paleru Left Canal and nearby agricultural fields. Officials briefed the CM on the ongoing relief efforts, which have been in full swing since the Munneru River overflowed its banks on Sunday, submerging large parts of the district.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s visit and subsequent announcements underscore the state government’s commitment to providing immediate relief and support to those impacted by the floods, as well as ensuring that all necessary resources are mobilized for recovery and rehabilitation efforts.
