Hubli: The Karnataka Congress government, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has reinstated the minority scholarship scheme previously abolished by the BJP. Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan announced the restoration during the inauguration of a new building for the Government Maulana Azad Pre-University College for minorities in Hubli’s Sadashivanagar on Sunday.

The BJP had suspended the scholarship scheme for minority students in 2023, but the Congress government has now revived it. The renewed scheme will provide scholarships worth ₹5 lakh to approximately 1,300 medical students. Additionally, the Congress administration has approved ₹80 crore for scholarships for minority students.

The new college building, funded under the Mahatma Gandhi Urban Development Scheme, was constructed at an estimated cost of ₹12.438 crore within the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation area. The facility includes six classrooms, an office, and restrooms for boys and girls.

Minister Khan emphasized the need to improve educational standards among minorities, criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogans of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (Together with All, Development for All) as lacking sincerity. He accused the BJP of dividing Hindus and Muslims for political gain.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also announced plans to provide subsidized housing for the poor in the state. Funding for 36,700 homes has already been released, with an additional 37,000 homes to be distributed in the near future. A statewide survey of the homeless is ongoing, and the government aims to provide homes to all displaced individuals.

The event was attended by Karnataka Slum Development Board Chairman and MLA Prasad Abaya, District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Swaroopa T.K., HDMC Commissioner Eshwar Olgadi, and other officials.
