High Court Nod for Maha Dharna a “Slap” on Congress-Led Telangana Government: BRS

0

Hyderabad, November 22, 2024: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) welcomed the Telangana High Court’s decision to permit the Maha Dharna in Mahabubabad on November 25, calling it a “tight slap” on the Congress-led state government. The protest is aimed at opposing the Congress government’s controversial land acquisition policy in Lagacherla, which has triggered widespread anger among tribal farmers.

Tribal Grievances Ignored

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, BRS MLC and former minister Satyavathi Rathod criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for alleged constitutional violations and neglect of tribal issues. She accused the government of forcing tribal women to approach Delhi to seek justice and demanded the cancellation of the proposed Pharma Village in Lagacherla.

“The Congress government’s atrocities are driving tribal farmers to the brink. While Congress leader Rahul Gandhi brandishes the Constitution, CM Revanth Reddy is burying it. The High Court’s approval of our protest despite the government’s denial is a victory for democracy,” Rathod said.

Land Acquisition Controversy

BRS MLC Takkellapally Ravinder Rao accused the Congress government of prioritizing private interests over public welfare. He alleged that land acquired during the BRS regime for public projects was now being repurposed for real estate ventures benefiting the Chief Minister’s family. “The BRS government always ensured fair compensation for land acquisition, unlike Congress’s profiteering agenda,” Rao added.

Suppression of Dissent

MLC Pochampally Srinivas Reddy slammed the imposition of Section 144 and the denial of police permission for the protest, calling it an attempt to stifle dissent. Former MP Maloth Kavitha confirmed that BRS working president KT Rama Rao would lead the protest, reaffirming the party’s solidarity with tribal farmers.

The Maha Dharna in Mahabubabad is expected to draw significant attention as tribal communities and BRS leaders unite to challenge the Congress government’s land policies.

Telangana High Court Sets Aside Single Judge’s Order on Disqualification Petition Timeline

0

Hyderabad, November 22, 2024: A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao, overturned a previous order by a single judge directing the Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly to schedule hearings for disqualification petitions within four weeks. The bench emphasized that while disqualification petitions must be resolved within a “reasonable time,” a rigid timeline, as prescribed by the single judge, was unnecessary.

The court clarified that the definition of “reasonable time” must account for the specifics of each case, the pendency period, and the constitutional principles outlined in the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India. It reiterated that the Speaker, as the competent authority under the Tenth Schedule, should address the petitions expeditiously, but the timeline should remain flexible depending on the circumstances.

Background

The judgment, spanning 78 pages, was delivered in response to writ appeals filed by the Secretary of the Telangana Legislative Assembly. These appeals challenged the single judge’s September 9, 2024, directive that ordered the Speaker to schedule hearings for disqualification petitions within four weeks and to communicate the schedule to the Court Registrar.

The disqualification petitions involved MLAs Venkata Rao Tellam (Bhadrachalam), Kadiyam Srihari (Station Ghanpur), and Danam Nagender (Khairatabad), who were elected on BRS tickets but later defected to the Indian National Congress (INC). The petitions were filed by BRS MLAs Kuna Pandu Vivekananda (Qutbullapur) and Padi Kaushik Reddy (Huzurabad), alongside BJP MLA Alleti Maheshwar Reddy.

Arguments Presented

Advocate General A. Sudarshan Reddy, representing the Speaker’s office, argued that the single judge’s directive was premature, as the writ petition was filed just ten days after the issue arose. He asserted that judicial review under Article 226 of the Constitution could only occur after the Speaker had made a decision. Imposing a time-bound schedule infringed upon the Speaker’s authority, he claimed, and the directive to the Secretary to set a hearing schedule amounted to overstepping constitutional boundaries.

In contrast, counsels for Kuna Pandu Vivekananda and Padi Kaushik Reddy supported the single judge’s order, arguing that the Speaker’s delay violated the constitutional mandate. They maintained that judicial intervention was necessary to ensure the Speaker acted efficiently and in a timely manner.

Court’s Ruling

After considering arguments from all parties, the bench set aside the single judge’s order. The court highlighted that while the Speaker must decide on disqualification petitions promptly, the timeline should vary based on the specifics of each case. The judgment underscores the balance between judicial oversight and the Speaker’s constitutional authority, ensuring that due process is followed without undue interference.

Watch: Monkey Smashes Through Car Sunroof in Varanasi: A Tale of Unexpected Chaos

0

Uttar Pradesh – An unusual incident in Varanasi’s Visheshwarganj area has taken social media by storm after a monkey made a dramatic leap from a rooftop, shattering the sunroof of a parked car. The bizarre event, captured on camera, occurred on Tuesday afternoon and has left netizens both amused and concerned.

The video shows the monkey landing directly on the car’s backseat after its powerful leap. In a display of agility, the animal promptly jumped back out through the broken sunroof and onto the road, leaving behind a scene of chaos. The monkey appeared unfazed as it disappeared into the street, as if nothing had happened.

Similar Incidents in the Past

This isn’t the first time monkeys have caused unusual havoc in urban areas. In 2021, a similar case was reported in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a troop of monkeys took over a parked car, damaging its windshield and side mirrors. The incident created panic among bystanders, highlighting the growing conflict between urban development and wildlife habitats.

In 2019, an incident in Mathura made headlines when monkeys climbed onto a moving car, eventually snatching a bag of fruits through an open window. Such episodes underline the adaptability of these animals and their growing interactions with human environments.

Public Reaction

The Varanasi video has sparked a flurry of reactions online. While some viewers were amused by the monkey’s bold behavior, others raised concerns about the damage caused to the car and the risks posed to both animals and humans in such situations. A few users highlighted the need for stricter measures to manage urban wildlife interactions, emphasizing that increasing deforestation and habitat loss often force animals into cities.

Expert Opinion

Wildlife experts warn that such incidents will likely increase unless sustainable solutions are implemented. “Monkeys are highly intelligent and adaptable. With shrinking natural habitats, they are often forced to find food and shelter in urban areas. Incidents like this highlight the urgent need for coexistence strategies,” said a local wildlife officer.

The video continues to circulate widely, sparking debates about urban planning and wildlife management. For now, the Varanasi incident remains a humorous yet thought-provoking reminder of the delicate balance between nature and modern development.
