“Experts Highlight the Role of Almonds in Combating Lifestyle Diseases and Promoting Balanced Nutrition”

Hyderabad, November 21, 2024: The Almond Board of California organized an engaging session titled “A Handful of Almonds a Day: Natural Approach to Supporting Health in Today’s Fast-Paced Lifestyle” at Taj Deccan, Hyderabad. The event featured renowned Nutrition & Wellness Consultant Sheela Krishnaswamy, celebrated actress Vani Bhojan, and RJ Prateeka, who collectively stressed the significance of mindful dietary habits and the role of almonds in enhancing overall health.
In light of the rising prevalence of lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes, heart ailments, and obesity, the session addressed the growing need for balanced nutrition. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), lifestyle diseases claim six million lives annually in India, with chronic illnesses projected to cost the country $6 trillion by 2030. Poor dietary habits are cited as a primary factor driving these alarming statistics.
Sheela Krishnaswamy highlighted the numerous benefits of almonds, rich in 15 essential nutrients, including their ability to aid in blood sugar control, weight management, and reducing cholesterol levels. She referenced the Dietary Guidelines for Indians by the ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR-NIN), which advocate for the inclusion of nuts like almonds as a vital source of plant protein and a healthier snacking option.
“Many individuals struggle with lifestyle diseases due to erratic routines. A balanced diet, enriched with natural foods like almonds, is crucial for maintaining health. Almonds are not only rich in protein and healthy fats but also help with weight management by keeping you full longer. Regular almond consumption supports blood sugar control, heart health, and glowing skin,” said Sheela Krishnaswamy.
Actress Vani Bhojan shared her personal experience of integrating almonds into her daily routine, attributing the habit to her childhood. “Natural foods like almonds have been a game changer for me.
