Hyderabad, November 22, 2024: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) welcomed the Telangana High Court’s decision to permit the Maha Dharna in Mahabubabad on November 25, calling it a “tight slap” on the Congress-led state government. The protest is aimed at opposing the Congress government’s controversial land acquisition policy in Lagacherla, which has triggered widespread anger among tribal farmers.
Tribal Grievances Ignored
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, BRS MLC and former minister Satyavathi Rathod criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for alleged constitutional violations and neglect of tribal issues. She accused the government of forcing tribal women to approach Delhi to seek justice and demanded the cancellation of the proposed Pharma Village in Lagacherla.
“The Congress government’s atrocities are driving tribal farmers to the brink. While Congress leader Rahul Gandhi brandishes the Constitution, CM Revanth Reddy is burying it. The High Court’s approval of our protest despite the government’s denial is a victory for democracy,” Rathod said.
Land Acquisition Controversy
BRS MLC Takkellapally Ravinder Rao accused the Congress government of prioritizing private interests over public welfare. He alleged that land acquired during the BRS regime for public projects was now being repurposed for real estate ventures benefiting the Chief Minister’s family. “The BRS government always ensured fair compensation for land acquisition, unlike Congress’s profiteering agenda,” Rao added.
Suppression of Dissent
MLC Pochampally Srinivas Reddy slammed the imposition of Section 144 and the denial of police permission for the protest, calling it an attempt to stifle dissent. Former MP Maloth Kavitha confirmed that BRS working president KT Rama Rao would lead the protest, reaffirming the party’s solidarity with tribal farmers.
The Maha Dharna in Mahabubabad is expected to draw significant attention as tribal communities and BRS leaders unite to challenge the Congress government’s land policies.
