Mohali Building Collapse: Death Toll Rises to Two, Rescue Operations Continue

0

Mohali, December 22, 2024 – The death toll in the tragic Mohali building collapse climbed to two on Sunday after rescue teams recovered the body of a 29-year-old IT professional. The incident, which occurred in Sohana village of Punjab’s Mohali district on Saturday evening, has been attributed to unauthorized excavation on an adjacent plot.

Details of the Incident
The multi-storey building collapsed suddenly, trapping at least five people under the debris. Rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army, and state rescue units, worked through the night using heavy machinery and specialized equipment to locate survivors.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Damandeep Kaur identified the recovered body as that of Abhishek Dhanwal, a resident of Ambala. According to Dhanwal’s father, he was last seen at a gym located in the collapsed building. The first fatality, a 20-year-old woman from Himachal Pradesh, was rescued in critical condition on Saturday but succumbed to her injuries in the hospital shortly after.

Preliminary Findings
Initial investigations revealed that unauthorized digging for basement construction on an adjacent plot caused the structural collapse. Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepak Pareek confirmed that the building owner had not obtained the necessary permissions for the excavation.

“We have registered cases against the building’s owners, and accountability will be fixed after a thorough investigation,” said Viraj S Tidke, the officiating deputy commissioner of Mohali.

Political Reactions and Criticism
Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, visited the site on Sunday and criticized the district administration for failing to enforce construction regulations.

“This incident is a glaring example of administrative negligence. Accountability must be ensured to prevent such tragedies in the future,” Bajwa stated. He also alleged that many structures in the area violated construction norms and demanded stricter enforcement of building regulations.

Bajwa held the Deputy Commissioner accountable for the lapses, calling for immediate corrective measures to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Rescue Efforts and Ongoing Investigations
Rescue operations are continuing as teams clear debris in search of any additional victims. Medical teams remain on-site to assist with emergency response.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for stricter oversight and adherence to safety protocols in construction activities. Authorities have assured a comprehensive investigation to determine responsibility and implement corrective measures.

Further updates will follow as rescue efforts and investigations progress.

Telangana High Court Grants Relief to K.T. Rama Rao in Formula E Race Case

0

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Friday provided temporary relief to BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) by directing the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) not to arrest him until December 30 in connection with an FIR alleging misuse of funds and irregularities in the organization of the Formula E Race held last year.

K.T. Rama Rao had filed a petition seeking to quash the ACB case, arguing that the allegations were politically motivated. Senior advocate C.S. Sundaram, representing KTR, claimed that there was no evidence of criminal breach of trust or misappropriation. In the interim order, the court directed the BRS leader to cooperate with the investigation while ensuring he would not face arrest.

The High Court has scheduled the next hearing for December 30.

Allegations and Counterarguments

Advocate A. Sudarshan Reddy, representing the Telangana government, argued against quashing the FIR at this stage, citing alleged irregularities involving Rs 54 crore. He stated that the funds were released without obtaining proper government sanction or approval from the finance department.

Reddy further emphasized that FIRs are preliminary documents and additional individuals or evidence could surface during the investigation.

Sundaram countered these claims, asserting that the issue stemmed from a contractual agreement and was more administrative than criminal. “There is an arbitration pending. The new government may have made a wise decision, but it does not justify invoking Section 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act,” he argued.

Political Repercussions

The case triggered a political storm in the Telangana Assembly, with BRS legislators disrupting proceedings and demanding a discussion on the Formula E Race allegations. The protest escalated into chaotic scenes as the legislators attempted to seize the speaker’s podium. Shadnagar Congress MLA Veernapalli Shankar added to the chaos by throwing a paper ball at the BRS MLAs.

Amid the uproar, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar adjourned the Assembly.

Speculations about K.T. Rama Rao’s possible arrest over the weekend further fueled the controversy, adding another layer of tension to Telangana’s political landscape.

High Drama Outside Parliament: BJP and Congress Accuse Each Other of Assault Amid Ambedkar Row

0

Watch the video > “Would someone who pushed another visit the injured to check on them? If Rahul Gandhi pushed, why was the injured silent upon his arrival?”

New Delhi: A dramatic confrontation unfolded outside Parliament on Thursday as the BJP and Congress traded accusations of physical assault during protests sparked by Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The political skirmish saw delegations from both parties heading to police offices to file complaints against each other, further intensifying the situation.

BJP Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Assault

Union Minister Anurag Thakur alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had violated provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including attempted murder. BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi claimed that Gandhi pushed another MP, who then fell on him, causing injuries. “I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi pushed an MP, and he fell on me, injuring me,” Sarangi stated before being taken to a hospital.

Meanwhile, Nagaland BJP MP Phangnon Konyak accused Gandhi of making her feel unsafe during the protests. “Rahul Gandhi stood uncomfortably close to me and started shouting,” she claimed.

Rahul Gandhi Denies Allegations

Rahul Gandhi refuted the BJP’s claims, accusing their MPs of blocking his entry into Parliament. “BJP MPs were trying to stop me, push me, and threaten me. This is about protecting the Constitution and honoring Ambedkar ji’s memory,” Gandhi said.

Congress Alleges Assault on Mallikarjun Kharge

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also alleged physical assault, claiming BJP MPs pushed him at Parliament’s entrance. “I was physically pushed, causing me to lose balance and aggravate a pre-existing knee injury,” Kharge wrote in a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, demanding an inquiry.

Kharge described the incident as “an assault on the Leader of the Opposition, the Congress President, and the democratic spirit of Parliament.”

Heated Exchanges Continue

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the incident, asserting that Parliament is “not Rahul Gandhi’s personal property.” Rijiju also claimed that BJP MPs Mukesh Rajput and Pratap Sarangi were assaulted by Gandhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly called the injured MPs to inquire about their health, while BJP leaders reviewed video footage to substantiate their allegations.

FIRs Expected Against Gandhi

TDP MP Byreddy Shabari and BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj are expected to file FIRs against Rahul Gandhi over the incident.

Opposition’s Counterclaims

The Congress shared video evidence accusing BJP MPs of blocking opposition leaders, including Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi, from entering Parliament. “This is hooliganism in the temple of democracy,” the Congress alleged.

Escalating Political Tensions

The protests stem from Amit Shah’s remarks on Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha earlier this week, which the INDIA bloc termed disrespectful. With both sides unwilling to back down, Parliament remained in a deadlock, with high political tensions marking the day.

This unfolding controversy underscores the deepening divide between the BJP and Congress as both sides prepare for upcoming political battles.

“Would someone who pushed another visit the injured to check on them? If Rahul Gandhi pushed, why was the injured silent upon his arrival?”

Adani-Revanth Reddy Bhai Bhai: BRS Accuses Congress of Hypocrisy Over Anti-Adani Protests

0

Hyderabad, Dec 18: In a sharp rebuttal to Congress’s ongoing protests against industrialist Gautam Adani, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) launched a scathing counterattack, accusing Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of double standards. Senior BRS leader and former minister T Harish Rao called for an open debate in the Assembly on Revanth Reddy’s alleged connections with Adani.

BRS’s Counter-Protest at Assembly

On Wednesday, BRS MLAs staged an impromptu protest at the Assembly, coinciding with the Congress-led ‘Chalo Raj Bhavan’ demonstration. Holding placards with slogans like “Adani-Revanth Reddy Bhai Bhai,” the MLAs accused the Congress government of hypocrisy and alleged that Revanth Reddy’s public stance against Adani was a political charade.

Harish Rao highlighted agreements worth ₹12,400 crore signed between the Telangana government and Adani during Revanth Reddy’s tenure, including:

  • ₹5,000 crore for Adani Green projects.
  • ₹5,000 crore for a data center.
  • ₹1,400 crore for a cement factory.
  • ₹1,000 crore for a defense project.

“If Revanth Reddy is serious about fighting corruption, he should cancel these agreements immediately,” Harish Rao challenged, stating that any hesitation would expose the Congress government’s double standards.

Accusations of Political Theater

Harish Rao labeled Revanth Reddy’s protests as a “political circus,” alleging that while the CM criticizes Adani publicly, his government has been actively facilitating agreements, including granting land for projects in Ramannapet. He accused Revanth of deceiving Telangana’s people and tarnishing the Congress’s image.

The BRS leader also called for Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand to file cases against participants in the Raj Bhavan dharna, citing public inconvenience and traffic disruptions caused by the protest.

KTR’s Jibe at Revanth Reddy

BRS working president KT Rama Rao also joined the fray, ridiculing Revanth Reddy’s anti-Adani rally. “Revanth, who supported Adani and looted crores, is now leading an anti-Adani protest. This is a new drama. Thieves accusing others of theft has become commonplace,” he said, emphasizing that people would not be deceived by such tactics.

Ongoing Political Tensions

The exchange between Congress and BRS comes amid heightened political activity in Telangana, with Congress leading protests against alleged corruption involving Adani, while BRS accuses Congress of political opportunism and doublespeak.

As political tensions rise, both parties continue to trade barbs, with the Adani issue taking center stage in the state’s political discourse.
