Hyderabad :- In a significant political development, Senior BRS leader and Rajya Sabha MP K Keshava Rao announced his return to the Congress party on Friday, terming it a ‘Ghar Wapsi’ (homecoming) for him. Addressing media personnel at his residence in Hyderabad, Keshava Rao recounted his journey, stating that his initial departure from the Congress was motivated by the mission to rebuild Telangana under the leadership of BRS Chief K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).
Highlighting the circumstances that led to his departure from the Congress, Keshava Rao expressed the distress accompanying his decision, clarifying that his alignment with the BRS was in response to KCR’s call for rejuvenating Telangana. He emphasized that the genesis of Telangana did not merely involve celebratory gestures but was grounded in legislative actions initiated by the Congress party.
Recalling the historical timeline, Keshava Rao reminisced about the Congress Forum for Telangana (CFT), which spearheaded the statehood movement as early as 1998, predating KCR’s involvement. He disclosed that familial pressures, particularly from his son Viplav Kumar, influenced his decision to join the BRS.
Responding to queries about his departure during turbulent times for the Congress, Keshava Rao asserted that the party faces formidable challenges, highlighting concerns over the state of democracy. Asserting his desire to reconnect with his ideological roots, he likened his return to Congress as a symbolic ‘Ghar Wapsi’ after a 13-year political journey.
At 85 years old, Keshava Rao professed a lack of personal ambition, stating his intention to return to the party fold. He revealed that his daughter, Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, would also join Congress the following day, with his own joining contingent upon strategic considerations.
In an indication of his commitment to transparency, Keshava Rao disclosed his meeting with KCR at the latter’s farmhouse, where discussions ranged from the arrest of Kavitha to broader political dynamics. While acknowledging the legality of Kavitha’s arrest, he voiced concerns over the denial of basic amenities, citing her yet-to-be-determined conviction status.
Underscoring the imperative of opposition unity, Keshava Rao noted KCR’s efforts to forge an alternative front, cautioning against the BJP’s pervasive influence, both politically and culturally. He announced his resignation from the Rajya Sabha, rebuffing suggestions of a position offered by KT Rama Rao, and urged departing party members to uphold their loyalty to their chosen political allegiance.
Acknowledging the talents within the BRS ranks, including KCR, KTR, and Harish Rao, Keshava Rao also lamented a perceived gap between the party leadership and grassroots sentiments.

In a show of solidarity amidst tumultuous times, Kalpana Soren, the wife of incarcerated ex-Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, paid a visit to Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of embattled Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, at the latter’s residence in the national capital today.
Arvind Kejriwal, currently in Enforcement Directorate custody over the Delhi liquor policy case, found support as Kalpana Soren arrived at the Kejriwal residence, extending empathy and solidarity to Sunita Kejriwal during this challenging period.
The meeting between the two prominent figures garnered attention, with Delhi Minister Atishi taking to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to commend their resilience. Atishi emphasized that the BJP should take heed, as the video of the encounter showcased the strength of two women who refused to be cowed by the might of central agencies targeting their husbands.
“BJP should be scared when they see this video of two strong women, who have not been intimidated by the brute power of central agencies used against their husbands, who were heading democratically elected governments. I salute @KejriwalSunita and Kalpana Soren for their strength and courage!,” Atishi tweeted.
Kalpana Soren’s gesture of support follows the recent crackdown by the Enforcement Directorate on Arvind Kejriwal. In a statement shared on X, she expressed empathy for Sunita Kejriwal’s plight, condemning the arrest of democratically elected leaders, particularly during the run-up to general elections, as an aberration in a democratic society.
“Just talked to Arvind Kejriwal ji’s wife Sunita Kejriwal ji and tried to give him courage. As a friend, I can understand their problems. Illegal arrest of popularly elected Chief Ministers and that too when the schedule of general elections in the country has been announced, is not a normal occurrence for a democratic country. In this hour of crisis, the entire Jharkhand stands with Kejriwal ji under the leadership of Hemant Soren ji. India will not bow down,” Kalpana Soren had stated.
Kalpana Soren also made a poignant statement, drawing parallels between the situations in Jharkhand and Delhi, stating, “What happened in Jharkhand two months ago, has happened in Delhi now. I came here to meet Sunita Kejriwal (wife of jailed Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal) to sympathize with her and we have taken a vow to fight against this.”
Hemant Soren, working president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), himself faced arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in February, in connection with an alleged land scam. His judicial custody has been extended till April 4, as ruled by the special PMLA court last week.
The meeting between Kalpana Soren and Sunita Kejriwal not only underscores the personal bonds transcending political lines but also highlights the solidarity among individuals in the face of adversity.

“Congress’ Resurgence: From Political Margins to Mainstream”
In a bold move promised by Chief Minister A Revant Reddy, the Congress Party has thrown open its doors to leaders from other parties, triggering a wave of defections from the Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and causing a significant stir in Telangana’s political landscape.
The decision to welcome leaders from rival parties into the Congress fold has already begun to yield results, with numerous BRS leaders either en route or already making the switch to the Congress party. This move has dealt a severe blow to the BRS, leaving it in a state of disarray and confusion as it grapples with the sudden exodus of its members.
Among the recent additions to the Congress ranks are sitting MLA of Khairatabad, Danam Nagender, and Ranjith Reddy from Chevella. Danam Nagender, a seasoned Congressman, has been entrusted with the Secunderabad Lok Sabha ticket, while Ranjit Reddy is gearing up to contest from the Chevella seat.
Former minister Patnam Mahender Reddy and his wife have also pledged their allegiance to the Congress, with Patnam Sunitha Reddy securing the hotly contested Malkajigiri ticket. Malkajigiri, previously represented by Chief Minister A Revant Reddy, is poised for a fiercely contested election this time around. Despite the campaigning efforts of former minister Malla Reddy and his nephew, first-time MLA Rajshekhar Reddy, the BRS stronghold in the Malkajgiri constituency appears to be weakening in light of recent events.
The momentum of defections gained traction a few weeks ago when former Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan and several others joined the Congress, with many more leaders expressing their intent to follow suit. Interestingly, these defections have not caused widespread discontent among the populace. Instead, there is a prevailing sentiment that the ruling party, under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revant Reddy, is turning the tables on the tactics employed by its adversaries in the past.
During its tenure, the ruling party systematically weakened the opposition by coercing leaders to switch sides, resulting in a drastic reduction of the Congress party’s strength by 2023. However, the Congress party, under the leadership of CM Revant Reddy, has made a spectacular comeback, emerging as the strongest voice of the people.
Furthermore, the Congress’s unwavering commitment to upholding democratic principles has struck a chord with the public. Unlike resorting to poaching tactics, the Congress is openly welcoming leaders who share its vision of strengthening democracy, both within the state and across the nation.
In a recent development, GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi has joined the Congress, with her father, Keshav Rao, a general secretary of the BRS, expected to follow suit. Additionally, Kadiyam Srihari has announced his departure from the BRS to join the Congress, citing concerns over allegations of corruption, land-grabbing, phone-tapping, and involvement in a liquor scam, which he believes have tarnished the party’s image. Kadiyam Srihari’s daughter, Kavya, has withdrawn as the BRS Warangal candidate, underscoring the family’s disassociation with the party’s tainted image.
These successive defections mark a significant shift in Telangana’s political landscape, with the Congress party emerging as a formidable alternative for leaders disillusioned with the current administration. As the state gears up for elections, the dynamic interplay between parties promises an intriguing contest, with the Congress positioning itself as a champion of democratic values and inclusive governance.
Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari passed away on Thursday due to cardiac arrest after being admitted to a hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district owing to deteriorating health. Ansari was rushed to the hospital in an unconscious state following complaints of vomiting. Allegations of Poisoning Surface as Mukhtar Ansari’s Brother Accuses Authorities
Amidst the news of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s demise, allegations of foul play have emerged, with his brother and Ghazipur MP, Afzal Ansari, accusing authorities of poisoning Mukhtar while he was in jail.
Afzal Ansari’s claims add a layer of suspicion to the circumstances surrounding Mukhtar Ansari’s death, raising questions about the conditions of his imprisonment and the level of care provided to him while in custody. The allegations have sparked intense scrutiny and demands for a thorough investigation into the events leading up to Ansari’s passing. The five-time MLA from eastern UP’s Mau, known for his involvement in the property business, had a notorious history with 52 criminal cases registered against him in UP and elsewhere. He contested elections twice as a Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) candidate, with his last electoral bid in 2017.
Following Ansari’s demise, authorities swiftly imposed prohibitory orders under CrPC Section 144 across Uttar Pradesh. Enhanced security measures were implemented in districts such as Banda, Mau, Ghazipur, and Varanasi. Section 144 prohibits large gatherings in public places, and additional police personnel were deployed to maintain order.
Ansari, who was on Uttar Pradesh Police’s list of 66 gangsters, had been incarcerated in UP and Punjab since 2005, with over 60 criminal cases pending against him.
The Samajwadi Party expressed condolences over Ansari’s death, offering tribute to the departed leader. “Sad demise of former MLA Shri Mukhtar Ansari. May his soul rest in peace. May the bereaved family members get the strength to bear this immense loss. Humble tribute,” the party conveyed in a Hindi post on X.

They’ve already voted for change and are anticipating the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. Some parties are stuck in old ways, while others promote division. The populace is determined to protect democracy and expects a significant shift in the political landscape. They aim to vote against those who have neglected their needs and aspirations.
The populace of Telangana is currently engaged in a subtle yet astute observation of the unfolding political landscape, both within the state and across the nation. With a keen eye, they monitor the shifting dynamics of politics, discerning which political factions hold the potential to steer the country and the state away from regression.
In recent times, the winds of change have begun to sweep across the nation, challenging the forces of hatred and misinformation. While in some regions these winds may be mild, in others, they have successfully dispelled the divisive elements that threatened democratic principles. Despite concerted efforts by anti-progressive factions, the people have firmly cemented their resolve.
Within Telangana, the populace has already signaled their desire for change through the ballot box, ushering in a new era of governance. Over the past few months, the political arena has witnessed numerous events, with various groups outlining their agendas and strategies in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
However, amidst this political flurry, certain parties remain entrenched in narrow-minded ideologies and limited perspectives. Some persist in the illusion of being the primary choice of the people, struggling to regain the attention they once commanded. Meanwhile, others have strayed far from the path of progress and development, instead fostering discord among social groups. Their rhetoric seeks to sow seeds of division and animosity, perpetuating a narrative of ‘us versus them.’
The people of Telangana keenly observe these political theatrics, having already formulated their stance for the impending general elections. With the Election Commission (EC) announcing the schedule for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections spanning seven phases, the stage is set for a significant transformation in the state’s political landscape.
From Adilabad to Mahaboobnagar and Khammam to Medak, signs abound indicating an imminent shift in the status quo. The populace has recognized the urgent imperative of safeguarding democracy, its institutions, and the principles that underpin it—all of which serve as the bulwarks of people’s rights.
The erosion of these rights, coupled with the unchecked dominance of corporate interests, has adversely impacted the lives and livelihoods of countless Indians. This time around, the people’s verdict is poised to bring about a seismic shift in the country’s trajectory.
The silent majority, long overshadowed, will emerge to cast their votes against those who have failed them. The forces responsible for dashing the dreams of Telangana’s citizens and the nation at large are poised to confront an electoral reckoning of unprecedented proportions.
During the Malkajgiri preparation meeting at Telangana Bhavan, BRS Working President KTR issued a direct challenge to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Asserting, “If you have guts, you have to resign,” KTR urged Revanth Reddy to step forward and contest from Malkajgiri in the upcoming MP elections.
BRS Working President KTR recently participated in a preparation meeting for the Malkajgiri Parliamentary Constituency held at Telangana Bhavan. During the session, KTR issued a direct challenge to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, urging him to contest from Malkajgiri in the upcoming MP elections.
In a bold statement, KTR asserted, “If you have guts, you have to resign,” challenging Revanth Reddy’s purported lack of action in Malkajgiri over the past five years. KTR accused Revanth of failing to address the needs of the constituency, suggesting that fear may be hindering his willingness to stand for election.
With nominations slated for April 18th, KTR emphasized the need for courage in political leadership, offering to stand in Revanth’s place if he chooses to step down. Despite his strong words, KTR expressed skepticism about Revanth’s willingness to accept the challenge, labeling him a coward.
Moving beyond individual rivalries, KTR highlighted the broader competitive landscape in Malkajgiri, emphasizing the importance of party unity and collective effort. With Malkajgiri being the largest constituency in the country, KTR underscored the significance of extensive campaigning and community outreach.
Drawing attention to the campaign efforts of Ragidi Lakshmareddy’s family members, KTR urged all party workers to redouble their efforts in reaching out to voters across Malkajgiri.
The meeting served as a platform for KTR to rally party members and strategize for the upcoming elections, demonstrating the BRS’s commitment to securing victory in Malkajgiri.
