In a show of solidarity amidst tumultuous times, Kalpana Soren, the wife of incarcerated ex-Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, paid a visit to Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of embattled Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, at the latter’s residence in the national capital today.
Arvind Kejriwal, currently in Enforcement Directorate custody over the Delhi liquor policy case, found support as Kalpana Soren arrived at the Kejriwal residence, extending empathy and solidarity to Sunita Kejriwal during this challenging period.
The meeting between the two prominent figures garnered attention, with Delhi Minister Atishi taking to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to commend their resilience. Atishi emphasized that the BJP should take heed, as the video of the encounter showcased the strength of two women who refused to be cowed by the might of central agencies targeting their husbands.
“BJP should be scared when they see this video of two strong women, who have not been intimidated by the brute power of central agencies used against their husbands, who were heading democratically elected governments. I salute @KejriwalSunita and Kalpana Soren for their strength and courage!,” Atishi tweeted.
Kalpana Soren’s gesture of support follows the recent crackdown by the Enforcement Directorate on Arvind Kejriwal. In a statement shared on X, she expressed empathy for Sunita Kejriwal’s plight, condemning the arrest of democratically elected leaders, particularly during the run-up to general elections, as an aberration in a democratic society.
“Just talked to Arvind Kejriwal ji’s wife Sunita Kejriwal ji and tried to give him courage. As a friend, I can understand their problems. Illegal arrest of popularly elected Chief Ministers and that too when the schedule of general elections in the country has been announced, is not a normal occurrence for a democratic country. In this hour of crisis, the entire Jharkhand stands with Kejriwal ji under the leadership of Hemant Soren ji. India will not bow down,” Kalpana Soren had stated.
Kalpana Soren also made a poignant statement, drawing parallels between the situations in Jharkhand and Delhi, stating, “What happened in Jharkhand two months ago, has happened in Delhi now. I came here to meet Sunita Kejriwal (wife of jailed Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal) to sympathize with her and we have taken a vow to fight against this.”
Hemant Soren, working president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), himself faced arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in February, in connection with an alleged land scam. His judicial custody has been extended till April 4, as ruled by the special PMLA court last week.
The meeting between Kalpana Soren and Sunita Kejriwal not only underscores the personal bonds transcending political lines but also highlights the solidarity among individuals in the face of adversity.
