Wadi/ Karnataka :- In a heartwarming display of communal harmony and service, the Bhai-Bhai Group at Wadi Railway Junction, on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border, has been offering free saher (pre-dawn meal) to train passengers during the holy month of Ramadan for the past five years.
As the sun sets and the night deepens, a dedicated team of volunteers, clad in white shirts and armed with food packets, eagerly awaits the arrival of trains at the station. Their mission is simple yet profound: to ensure that no fasting passenger misses their pre-dawn meal before beginning their fast at the break of dawn.
The volunteers, embodying the ethos of “Mazhab nahi dekhtey jo bhooke haiN Safar meiN unko bhi detey food” (We don’t see religion, we feed the hungry travelers), swiftly move through the platform, offering silver-packed meals to those observing the fast.
Shamsher Ahmad, the founder of the Bhai-Bhai Group, recounts the group’s dedication to serving others during Ramadan, ensuring that no one goes hungry during this sacred month. He explains that their efforts are not limited to Muslims; people of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome to partake in the saheri meals.
The group’s services are not confined to the railway platform; they also extend their generosity to the needy in the vicinity of Wadi Railway Station, highlighting their commitment to serving humanity beyond religious boundaries.
With social media as their ally, the Bhai-Bhai Group spreads the word about their services, encouraging travelers to book their free saher meals in advance. The volunteers, donning white T-shirts emblazoned with “Ramadan Mubarak,” ensure that every fasting person is catered to with care and compassion.
As Shamsher Ahmed aptly puts it, “This is worship, religion, and faith.” The group’s selfless service is a testament to the power of unity and compassion, transcending barriers of religion and nationality.
In a world often marred by divisions, the Bhai-Bhai Group’s noble gesture stands as a shining example of harmony and humanity, reminding us of the true spirit of Ramadan.
