DRI Seizes Foreign-Origin Gold Worth Rs 2.94 Crore in Hyderabad; Two Arrested

0

Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on smuggling, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) successfully intercepted a car on the city’s outskirts late Wednesday night, seizing gold bars valued at approximately Rs 2.94 crore. This operation followed precise intelligence indicating that foreign-origin gold was being transported from Kolkata to Hyderabad.

The gold, totaling 3982.070 grams and worth Rs 2,94,55,372, was discovered hidden within two custom-built compartments in the vehicle. DRI officials reported that one compartment was ingeniously concealed beneath the dashboard on the left side of the driver’s seat, while the other was integrated into the trunk frame behind the car.

The operation resulted in the seizure of both the gold and the vehicle. Two individuals traveling in the car have been apprehended and are facing charges under the Customs Act, 1962. The DRI is continuing its investigation to uncover the full extent of the smuggling network and identify any additional individuals involved.

This significant seizure underscores the ongoing efforts by Indian authorities to combat smuggling and ensure the enforcement of customs regulations. The DRI’s successful intervention in this case highlights their commitment to curbing illegal trade and maintaining economic security.

Further details about the suspects’ identities and the broader implications of this operation are expected as the investigation progresses.

“Rahul Gandhi Tera Bhi Teri DADI ka Haal hoga” Congress Shares BJP Leader’s Video, Demands Action

The controversy over Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s statement about Sikhs in India is escalating. After Rahul Gandhi alleged that Sikhs in India do not have religious freedom, BJP Sikh leaders staged a protest in Delhi. Meanwhile, Congress has shared a video of BJP leader and former MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah, in which he threatens Rahul Gandhi with the same fate as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Congress Demands Action

The Congress party shared the video on its ‘X’ handle. They have called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action regarding this issue. Congress stated, “During the protest today, Delhi BJP leader and former MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah said, ‘Rahul Gandhi, you better back off, otherwise, you will face the same fate as your grandmother in the future.’ This BJP leader is openly threatening the Leader of the Opposition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, you cannot remain silent about this leader’s threat. This is a very serious matter. This is a product of your party’s hate factory. Action must be taken.”

What was Rahul Gandhi’s Statement?

It is worth noting that during his visit to the United States, Rahul Gandhi had said, “There is concern among the Sikh community in India about whether they will be allowed to wear turbans and kara (bracelets). Will they be able to go to Gurdwaras? This concern is not only for Sikhs but for people of all religions.”

It is also noted that Tarvinder Singh Marwah was with Congress until two years ago. In July 2022, he left Congress and joined the BJP. (Source: India TV)

Comrade Sitaram Yechury Passes Away at 72; Family Donates Body to AIIMS for Medical Research

New Delhi, Sept 12, 2024 – Sitaram Yechury, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and a former Rajya Sabha MP, passed away on Thursday at the age of 72. Yechury had been suffering from a respiratory tract infection that led to serious complications. The CPI(M) confirmed his passing through a statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), expressing their profound grief. “It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of our beloved Comrade Sitaram Yechury at 3:03 pm today, September 12, at AIIMS, New Delhi. He had been suffering from a respiratory tract infection, which led to complications,” the statement read.

Yechury, a well-known figure in Indian politics, had been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on August 19, 2024, with pneumonia. Despite receiving medical treatment, his condition worsened due to the complications of his infection. According to Dr. Rima Dada, representing AIIMS’ media cell, Yechury passed away at 3:05 pm. The family, in line with Yechury’s dedication to knowledge and service, decided to donate his body to AIIMS for medical teaching and research purposes.

Health Risks for the Elderly

Yechury’s passing highlights the critical health risks faced by elderly individuals, particularly those suffering from respiratory infections. Dr. Ravi Shekher Jha, a senior consultant in pulmonology at Fortis Hospital, explained that respiratory infections in people over the age of 70 can lead to severe conditions like pneumonia. The respiratory tract infections are commonly caused by viruses and bacteria that spread through direct contact or via contaminated surfaces.

In India, environmental factors such as air pollution further exacerbate the spread and severity of these infections. Poor air quality, combined with the natural decline in immune function among older adults, makes them particularly vulnerable. Dr. Jha emphasized that preventive measures and timely treatment are essential to avoid such complications, especially for those in the 70-plus age group.

A Life of Service

Sitaram Yechury was known for his dedication to socialist values and his lifelong work for the Communist Party of India (Marxist). His passing marks the end of a significant era in Indian left-wing politics. Through his leadership and efforts in Parliament, Yechury advocated for the working class, social justice, and equality. The CPI(M) and supporters from across the political spectrum have expressed deep sorrow at the loss of one of India’s most prominent Marxist leaders.

As tributes pour in from across the country, the legacy of Yechury’s political career, marked by his commitment to his party’s principles and his advocacy for the marginalized, will continue to inspire future generations. His passing, coupled with the ongoing health concerns for the elderly in India, underscores the importance of addressing public health challenges in the country, particularly in the context of environmental and age-related vulnerabilities.

The gesture of donating his body to science adds another layer of reverence to Yechury’s legacy, leaving behind not only political achievements but also a contribution to the future of medical education and research.

JPC on Waqf Amendment Bill to Visit Telangana by Month-End: D.K. Aruna

0

Hyderabad: Mahbubnagar MP and member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Bill-2024, D.K. Aruna, announced that the committee is touring various parts of the country and is expected to visit Telangana by the end of September. The committee’s primary goal is to gather feedback and submit its report, which will include recommendations and suggestions.

Aruna highlighted that farmers across several regions have raised concerns about the issues they face due to the Waqf Act. “The committee is taking into account the complaints and views of the affected farmers,” she said. Farmers in areas such as the combined Medak district, Zahirabad, Narsapur, Thupran assembly constituencies, and the Boduppal area of Hyderabad have expressed their grievances regarding difficulties posed by the Waqf Act.

A major complaint from the farmers is their inability to receive government schemes like Rythu Bandhu and Kisan Samman, as the Waqf Act is reportedly acting as an obstacle. Aruna explained that the Waqf Act, originally enacted in 1954, has undergone several amendments over the years, and the current bill seeks to address issues related to it.

Refuting claims by some political groups that the Waqf Amendment Bill is intended to seize land from Muslims, Aruna dismissed such propaganda as baseless. She clarified that the proposed bill is aimed at providing justice to underprivileged Muslims and is not targeted against any religion or caste.

Revanth Reddy Vows to Crack Down on Encroachments Under ‘Operation HYDRA’

0

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has reiterated the government’s commitment to clearing encroachments in the city, warning that violators of the law, regardless of their social or political standing, would face strict action, including imprisonment. The CM made these remarks on Wednesday while addressing the passing out parade of newly recruited sub-inspectors at the Telangana Police Academy.

Reddy emphasized that Operation HYDRA, an initiative aimed at removing encroachments from Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones of lakes, would be executed with full force. He urged illegal occupants of water bodies to voluntarily vacate the encroached areas, warning that if they did not comply, the government would demolish illegal structures and file criminal cases against them.

“My appeal to all illegal occupants of the water bodies is to vacate the encroached places voluntarily. If not, the government will demolish the illegal structures and lodge them in jail,” he said. The CM also announced that encroachments along the banks of the Musi River would be cleared, and double-bedroom homes would be provided for the displaced. The government plans to rehabilitate approximately 11,000 residents affected by the drive.

Responding to critics of Operation HYDRA, Reddy said that had the previous government prevented these encroachments, Hyderabad would not have faced the flood disasters witnessed in recent years. “The demolition of encroachments is to prevent future calamities,” he stated.

The CM also stressed the government’s firm stance on eradicating the drug and ganja menace, which he said was destroying the lives of the youth and contributing to an increase in crime, including cybercrime. Reddy called on the police to handle the issue with an “iron hand,” highlighting the importance of tackling drug abuse for the state’s future.

“It is everyone’s responsibility to rebuild Telangana and create a bright future for the next generations. Police are the first responders when problems arise. Let us all work together to eradicate drug and ganja abuse. Even the thought of drugs should send shivers down the spine of those who consume and sell them,” Reddy urged.

Aziz Burney Speaks Out on Waqf Amendment Bill and Common Civil Code

0

New Delhi: Senior journalist and writer Aziz Burney, in a strong statement, has warned that remaining silent on critical issues like the Waqf Amendment Bill and Common Civil Code could pose a danger to the entire community. Burney, who has been writing and speaking on public matters for over 50 years, emphasized that while speaking up may involve personal risk, silence is no less dangerous.

Burney, aged 72, remarked, “My life has been in danger several times, but I continued to write and speak without fear. Death and the fear of it exist even in silence, so why be afraid of speaking the truth?”

Addressing the relevance of these bills, Burney stressed that they do not only concern the present but also have lasting impacts on future generations. “These are issues that must be brought before the government with honesty and well-reasoned arguments,” he added.

However, Burney cautioned against reckless statements driven by passion. He advised that thorough research and understanding of these topics is essential before speaking publicly. “Speaking without proper knowledge can be even more dangerous,” he said, expressing hope for a positive outcome through informed discourse.

Echoes of President’s Rule in Delhi: BJP Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place

0

In Delhi, speculation is growing that the central government may soon dismiss jailed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet. This follows a demand by BJP MLAs, who met President Droupadi Murmu and presented a memorandum seeking the dismissal of Kejriwal’s government. Reports now suggest that the President’s Secretariat has forwarded the request to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The pressing question is: why is the BJP in such a hurry? If the Kejriwal government hasn’t been removed so far, would doing so now, on the eve of elections, prove beneficial to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) or the BJP? It could potentially hand Kejriwal something he has never had before: a sympathy wave.

During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Arvind Kejriwal was also in jail. Many speculated that his imprisonment would garner sympathetic votes for AAP. However, this did not happen. The court provided Kejriwal with ample time to campaign, and right up to the day before voting in Delhi and Punjab, he urged his supporters to vote for AAP if they wanted him released from jail. Yet, the people of Delhi didn’t respond. Despite contesting seven seats in alliance with the Congress, AAP failed to secure a single seat. The message was clear: the people of Delhi were dissatisfied with Kejriwal and AAP’s governance.

However, Delhi’s political landscape is unique. The city has consistently voted differently in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. In 2019, AAP was completely wiped out, but in the 2020 Assembly elections, they convincingly defeated the BJP. Without a doubt, dismissing the Kejriwal government could generate sympathy for him. AAP could spin this narrative to argue that the central government’s sole objective was to remove their government and that a conspiracy was hatched to entangle AAP leaders. This is likely why Kejriwal has not resigned yet; he seems to be waiting for the government to dismiss him so he can turn the situation to his advantage.

There’s no denying that the current state of the capital is concerning. Outside of the Lutyens’ Zone, Delhi is strewn with garbage, roads are in disrepair, and streetlights often don’t work. Underpasses frequently flood, and even light rainfall can disrupt the city’s infrastructure.

Not Dismissing Kejriwal Could Backfire

Conversely, not dismissing Kejriwal could also prove costly for the BJP. In Delhi, the support bases of the BJP and AAP are sharply divided. While many AAP supporters are satisfied with the government’s work, a significant number are disillusioned and want action taken against Kejriwal. If the BJP goes to the public seeking votes against Kejriwal, people might question why he hasn’t been dismissed. This leaves the BJP stuck between a rock and a hard place.
