Sangareddy DMHO Seizes Lab for Reporting Fake Dengue Cases

0

Sangareddy, September 10, 2024: In a crackdown on fraudulent medical practices, District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr. Gayathri Devi seized a medical lab at a private hospital on Tuesday for issuing false dengue positive reports. The action was taken following multiple complaints regarding inaccurate dengue testing.

During inspections of various private labs, Dr. Devi visited Sishu Raksha Hospital, located along a by-pass road in Sangareddy. It was discovered that the lab there was conducting dengue rapid card tests and incorrectly reporting patients as positive, which caused undue panic among local residents. Additionally, the hospital management failed to display service charges and the names of its doctors, which are required for transparency.

Dr. Devi emphasized that labs should only declare dengue positivity after conducting Elisa tests on patient samples. Further scrutiny of Charitha Hospital at Sangareddy crossroads revealed unhygienic conditions and a lack of proper biomedical waste management, leading to the seizure of its lab for not maintaining records and neglecting fire safety measures.

The DMHO has issued notices to the management of both hospitals, demanding explanations and immediate corrective actions. The inspections come amid a rise in dengue cases, underscoring the need for rigorous adherence to medical and safety standards.

Local Demand for Accountability: The local community is calling for stringent actions against white-collar criminals involved in such fraudulent practices. There is also a call for accountability for doctors who refer patients to these unscrupulous labs. This reflects a growing demand for greater oversight and integrity within the medical testing sector.

Hyderabad, September 10, 2024: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has stepped in to address the distressing situation of Mallamma, an elderly woman who has been living in a Swachh Bharat Mission toilet in Chigurupalli village, Vikarabad, for the past eight years. This intervention follows a report by ABN News, which highlighted Mallamma’s plight.

Mallamma, a widow with two married daughters, was forced out of her home after it was destroyed by heavy rains. Since then, she has been living in the makeshift toilet. Her situation further deteriorated when one of her daughters’ husbands passed away, leading her daughter and three grandchildren to move to Hyderabad, leaving Mallamma alone.

Local Sarpanch Venkataiah noted that although efforts were made to rebuild Mallamma’s home, only the basement was completed. With no alternatives, Mallamma had no choice but to continue living in the toilet.

Upon learning of Mallamma’s circumstances, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed his concern on social media, stating, “It’s disheartening to see such situations. I’ve directed officials to visit her and ensure immediate action for her well-being. The Collector has been instructed to take necessary steps for the allotment of a house.”

The Chief Minister’s intervention aims to secure a permanent residence for Mallamma and improve her living conditions.

In addition, it is vital for news reporters to amplify the voices of those in need and uphold the integrity of their profession. Journalism should be constructive and contribute to societal progress, rather than fostering division or hatred. As emphasized by ABN News, it is crucial for journalists to avoid perpetuating negative narratives and instead promote a more positive and inclusive public discourse.

Nigerian National Deported by Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing on Drug Peddling Suspicion

“Year-to-Date: Major Drug Trafficking Arrests and Seizures in Hyderabad in 2024”

Hyderabad, September 7, 2024: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW) has deported Ikeji Innocent Nduka, a 53-year-old Nigerian national, on suspicions of drug peddling. Nduka was apprehended in Panjagutta, Hyderabad, on September 7, 2024, marking a significant action in the ongoing efforts against drug trafficking in the city.

Nduka entered India in 2009 on a medical visa and initially settled in Mumbai. In 2014, he moved to Chennai, where he ran a garments business for four years. In May 2024, he relocated to Hyderabad, where he allegedly engaged in drug-related illegal activities.

During the investigation, Nduka confessed to overstaying his visa and using a false identity to evade legal repercussions. His fraudulent documentation was intended to facilitate his return to Nigeria without encountering legal obstacles.

The HNEW’s action against Nduka is part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking in Hyderabad. In recent months, law enforcement agencies have intensified their operations to curb the growing issue of drug peddling in the region. This includes several high-profile arrests and seizures:

  • April 2024: Authorities arrested a group of individuals involved in a large-scale synthetic drug distribution network, seizing over 1,000 kilograms of narcotics.
  • June 2024: A major bust led to the arrest of a drug cartel operating within Hyderabad, resulting in the confiscation of various controlled substances and arresting key figures in the network.
  • August 2024: An operation targeting international drug syndicates resulted in the arrest of several foreign nationals suspected of trafficking large quantities of heroin into the city.

To facilitate Nduka’s deportation, the HNEW coordinated with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Hyderabad. A movement restriction order was obtained to prevent his departure until the legal process was completed. Nduka was detained at a local center while an emergency travel document was secured from the Nigerian High Commission in New Delhi.

An exit permit was issued by the FRRO Hyderabad, enabling Nduka’s deportation from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. This deportation underscores the commitment of Hyderabad’s law enforcement agencies to tackling drug-related crimes and maintaining stringent immigration control measures.

The action against Nduka and similar operations reflect the heightened vigilance and collaborative efforts by various authorities to combat the pervasive issue of drug trafficking and its impact on public safety and health in Hyderabad.

Telangana High Court Orders Fresh Mop-Up Round for Engineering Admissions, Overturning Previous Ruling

“Court Ruling Provides Relief to Private Engineering Colleges, Addressing the Rising Demand for Computer Science and Technical Education”

Hyderabad, September 10, 2024: The Telangana High Court has directed the State Education Department and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to conduct a fresh mop-up round of counselling for engineering admissions in the academic year 2024-25. This decision comes after a two-judge bench overturned an earlier ruling by a single judge, following multiple appeals from private engineering institutions.

The division bench, led by Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao, addressed several writ appeals filed by engineering colleges, including Vidya Jyothi Educational Society. The institutions contested the state’s rejection of 280 seats in the B.Tech Computer Science Engineering (CSE) course, which comprised a proposed merger of 60 seats from other branches and an additional intake of 120 seats approved by AICTE and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) for spot admissions.

The appellants argued that the state authorities had unfairly denied their request for an increased intake, despite similar approvals being granted to other institutions. They claimed the rejection amounted to discrimination, as 56 out of 70 engineering institutions had received approval for additional seats, while their requests were dismissed without proper justification.

Previously, the Telangana High Court’s single judge had dismissed pleas for additional seats and a fresh counselling round, citing that the admissions process had already been finalized. However, the two-judge bench disagreed with this decision, noting that the admissions process was not fully completed, and the course had not yet commenced in some institutions. The bench found that the private colleges had been unfairly deprived of the opportunity to increase their intake.

In its ruling, the court ordered that all engineering institutions be notified of their full intake capacity for the upcoming mop-up round of counselling. This decision allows private colleges to offer more seats, particularly in high-demand courses like B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering (CSE), and provides students with an additional opportunity to secure admissions.

The ruling is a significant relief for private engineering colleges, as it addresses the growing demand for technical education, especially in courses related to computer science and engineering.

Hyderabad Police and GHMC Take Strict Action to Enforce Ban on Ganesh Idol Immersion at Tank Bund

“Joint Efforts to Protect Ecology and Tradition: Hyderabad Police and GHMC Ensure a Safe and Eco-Friendly Ganesh Visarjan”

Hyderabad, September 10, 2024: In a coordinated effort to safeguard the ecological integrity of Hussain Sagar Lake and ensure public safety during the Ganesh Visarjan, Hyderabad Police and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have intensified measures to enforce the ban on Ganesh idol immersion at the Tank Bund area. The enforcement follows a directive from the Hon’ble High Court of Telangana, which has called for stringent action to prevent further environmental damage to one of Hyderabad’s most iconic lakes.

The decision to ban idol immersion at Tank Bund is a direct response to years of environmental degradation caused by the practice. The use of plaster of Paris (PoP) idols coated with harmful chemicals, as well as the mass dumping of other materials into the lake, has raised serious concerns about water pollution and its impact on aquatic life. Recognizing the need to protect this vital water body, the High Court mandated the authorities to take all necessary precautions to ensure compliance with the ban.

On Tuesday, both Hyderabad Police and GHMC undertook a comprehensive campaign, placing large banners and signages around the Tank Bund area and its surroundings. The banners clearly state: “No Idol Immersion on Tank Bund as per orders of the Hon’ble High Court of Telangana State,” serving as a public notice to warn and dissuade devotees from attempting idol immersions at the site. The strategic placement of these banners aims to raise awareness among the public and reduce any unintentional violations of the ban.

In addition to the informational banners, authorities have taken physical measures to enforce the prohibition. Iron barricades have been installed along the perimeter of the lake to prevent any unauthorized attempts to immerse idols. These barricades not only act as a physical deterrent but also assist in crowd management during the peak of the festival. With the Ganesh Visarjan known to attract thousands of devotees, ensuring a smooth and safe celebration has become a top priority for both the Hyderabad Police and GHMC.

To ensure that the ban is strictly adhered to, Hyderabad Police has deployed additional personnel across the Tank Bund area. These officers will actively monitor the situation, manage crowds, and respond quickly to any attempts to violate the court’s orders. A senior police official, speaking on the preparedness, said, “We have made all the necessary arrangements to handle the large crowds expected during Ganesh Visarjan. Our focus is on maintaining peace, ensuring public safety, and preventing any idol immersions in the restricted areas. We urge the public to cooperate and respect the High Court’s decision.”

Alternative Immersion Sites and Portable Ponds Set Up

In response to the High Court’s directive and in the interest of preserving the lake, authorities have provided alternative solutions for idol immersion. GHMC has established several designated locations and portable ponds across Hyderabad, making it easier for devotees to conduct the Visarjan in an eco-friendly manner without causing harm to the environment.

The GHMC has set up a total of 73 portable ponds, spread across different zones of the city, to cater to the needs of devotees. These ponds include:

  • 27 baby ponds built inside existing lakes to accommodate smaller idols
  • 24 portable prefabricated water tanks that can be relocated as needed
  • 22 excavated ponds specifically designed for safe immersion practices

These immersion ponds are equipped to handle idols ranging from 2 to 6 feet in height, providing a practical and sustainable alternative to immersing them in Hussain Sagar. Authorities have made it a point to ensure that these ponds are easily accessible to the public and are spread out across various parts of the city to minimize congestion and ensure convenience.

To promote the use of these alternative sites, both Hyderabad Police and GHMC have launched awareness campaigns, urging the public to cooperate with the new guidelines. Announcements and informational pamphlets are being distributed to educate devotees about the environmental impact of traditional idol immersion and the importance of using eco-friendly alternatives. Additionally, volunteers have been stationed at key locations to guide and assist devotees during the immersion process.

Public Appeals for Compliance

As the festival draws near, Hyderabad Police and GHMC have made repeated appeals to the public to cooperate with the authorities and adhere to the court’s orders. They have emphasized that while religious rituals are an important part of the festival, it is equally important to respect the law and act responsibly towards the environment. By using the designated immersion sites and portable ponds, devotees can continue their religious traditions without harming the natural resources of the city.

The authorities have also issued strict warnings to anyone attempting to violate the ban. Legal action will be taken against those found disobeying the court’s order, including fines and penalties. However, the primary focus remains on public cooperation, with the hope that awareness and civic responsibility will lead to a peaceful and eco-friendly Ganesh Visarjan this year.

High Alert: Incomplete Building Near Hyderabad Haj House Poses Serious Threat Amid Heavy Rains

0

Hyderabad, 9th September 2024: A 14-year-old under-construction building near the Hyderabad Haj House has raised alarms due to the ongoing heavy rains, which have exacerbated the dangers it poses to nearby structures. Located in close proximity to schools, hospitals, a metro station, and the Haj House, the deteriorating building presents a significant threat to its surroundings.

The building, which has remained untouched and unfinished for over a decade, has caused increasing concern. For the past four years, rainwater has consistently accumulated in the cellar of the structure. Currently, with the ongoing downpour, water has risen to submerge the building’s columns up to five feet, leading to severe damage.

Despite the visible dangers, there has been little action taken by the concerned authorities to address the situation. Questions have arisen regarding the accountability for this neglected structure, which was originally constructed during the tenure of the late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

While the government has been actively conducting demolition drives under the HYDRAA initiative, targeting illegal constructions and unsafe buildings, this abandoned and incomplete structure beside the Haj House continues to signal a looming danger. The building is also located in close proximity to the Telangana Assembly, amplifying concerns.

Local journalist Mohammed Yousuf has taken to Twitter to highlight the issue and urged the government to take immediate action to mitigate the risks posed by this hazardous building.

Etawah, Uttar Pradesh: A significant disruption occurred on Monday morning when the Vande Bharat Express, traveling from New Delhi to Varanasi, suffered a technical malfunction near Bharthana Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district. The incident, which unfolded around 9:15 a.m., left the train stranded and created a tense situation among the passengers.

According to officials, the train came to a complete halt due to a malfunction in its engine. Despite immediate efforts by a technical team to rectify the issue on-site, their attempts proved unsuccessful. The Vande Bharat Express was unable to resume its journey, prompting the railway authorities to take alternative measures.

To resolve the situation, the train was towed from its location between Bharthana and Samho railway stations to Bharthana Railway Station using the engine of a freight train. The unexpected halt led to a growing sense of frustration among passengers, who had to deal with the inconvenience of an unscheduled delay.

In response to the situation, railway authorities decided to halt the Shatabdi Express and the Ayodhya-bound Vande Bharat Express to accommodate the affected passengers. These passengers were transferred to the alternate trains to continue their journey.

Amit Kumar Singh, a senior official from the Prayagraj Rail Division, reported that approximately 750 passengers were aboard the Varanasi-bound Vande Bharat Express. The authorities have arranged for these passengers to be safely transported to Varanasi via the Shram Shakti Express, once the train reaches Kanpur.

The Vande Bharat Express, which had departed from New Delhi early in the day, remains stationed at Bharthana Railway Station. Technical teams are on-site, working diligently to address the malfunction and restore the train to operational status. Meanwhile, the railway authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and convenience of all passengers affected by the disruption.
