Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on smuggling, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) successfully intercepted a car on the city’s outskirts late Wednesday night, seizing gold bars valued at approximately Rs 2.94 crore. This operation followed precise intelligence indicating that foreign-origin gold was being transported from Kolkata to Hyderabad.
The gold, totaling 3982.070 grams and worth Rs 2,94,55,372, was discovered hidden within two custom-built compartments in the vehicle. DRI officials reported that one compartment was ingeniously concealed beneath the dashboard on the left side of the driver’s seat, while the other was integrated into the trunk frame behind the car.
The operation resulted in the seizure of both the gold and the vehicle. Two individuals traveling in the car have been apprehended and are facing charges under the Customs Act, 1962. The DRI is continuing its investigation to uncover the full extent of the smuggling network and identify any additional individuals involved.
This significant seizure underscores the ongoing efforts by Indian authorities to combat smuggling and ensure the enforcement of customs regulations. The DRI’s successful intervention in this case highlights their commitment to curbing illegal trade and maintaining economic security.
Further details about the suspects’ identities and the broader implications of this operation are expected as the investigation progresses.
