Hyderabad: Mahbubnagar MP and member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Bill-2024, D.K. Aruna, announced that the committee is touring various parts of the country and is expected to visit Telangana by the end of September. The committee’s primary goal is to gather feedback and submit its report, which will include recommendations and suggestions.
Aruna highlighted that farmers across several regions have raised concerns about the issues they face due to the Waqf Act. “The committee is taking into account the complaints and views of the affected farmers,” she said. Farmers in areas such as the combined Medak district, Zahirabad, Narsapur, Thupran assembly constituencies, and the Boduppal area of Hyderabad have expressed their grievances regarding difficulties posed by the Waqf Act.
A major complaint from the farmers is their inability to receive government schemes like Rythu Bandhu and Kisan Samman, as the Waqf Act is reportedly acting as an obstacle. Aruna explained that the Waqf Act, originally enacted in 1954, has undergone several amendments over the years, and the current bill seeks to address issues related to it.
Refuting claims by some political groups that the Waqf Amendment Bill is intended to seize land from Muslims, Aruna dismissed such propaganda as baseless. She clarified that the proposed bill is aimed at providing justice to underprivileged Muslims and is not targeted against any religion or caste.
