Hyderabad, November 18, 2024: The Telangana government has officially approved the Warangal Master Plan-2041, paving the way for comprehensive urban development across the Kakatiya (Warangal) Development Area.
The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department issued a formal order on Sunday, endorsing the plan, which covers 1,805 sq. km, including 181 revenue villages. This master plan is set to shape the urban growth of Warangal and its surrounding regions for the next two decades.
Prepared by the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA), the plan incorporates land-use zoning regulations and general development guidelines. Its formulation involved extensive public consultations, technical reviews, and discussions with district officials. The draft plan was first notified in 2018, allowing a 90-day period for public objections and suggestions.
KUDA’s vice-chairman has been instructed to make the final plan accessible for public inspection at the KUDA office and other prominent locations.
While the draft plan was initially approved by the Municipal Administration Department in March 2021, its final approval was delayed due to administrative hurdles. These delays affected permissions for large-scale projects in the region.
With the state government’s nod, the new master plan is expected to eliminate such obstacles and accelerate developmental initiatives, ensuring structured growth and economic opportunities in Warangal.
New Delhi, November 18, 2024: The Supreme Court on Monday declined to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking an investigation into the death of Indian freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose. The petition, filed by Pinak Pani Mohanty against the Union of India and others, questioned the conclusions drawn by past commissions regarding Bose’s death.
A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan stated that the court is not the appropriate forum to adjudicate on the conclusions of inquiry commissions. Justice Kant remarked, “We cannot decide on the validity of the findings of the commission. This matter pertains to policy, not legal adjudication. You should approach the appropriate forum.”
The petitioner argued that there has been no conclusive evidence regarding Bose’s death, citing the Shah Nawaz Commission of 1956 and the Khosla Commission of 1970. He contended that Bose did not die in the 1945 plane crash in Taiwan, as widely believed, and called for a fresh probe to uncover the truth.
Additionally, the petitioner sought a declaration recognizing that the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army) led by Bose played a pivotal role in securing India’s independence in 1947.
The court dismissed the plea, with Justice Kant observing, “You are a political worker; raise this issue within your party. It is not the court’s job to run the government or resolve every issue.”
The decision reaffirms the judiciary’s stance on refraining from intervening in historical debates and matters of policy, leaving such issues to be addressed through appropriate political or legislative channels.
Delhi, November 18, 2024: The Supreme Court on Monday strongly criticised the Delhi government for delays in enforcing stringent anti-pollution measures under Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), warning that no relaxation of these measures would be allowed without prior approval from the court.
A bench led by Justices Abhay S. Oka and Augustine George Masih highlighted the urgency, given the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi has consistently hovered in the hazardous zone. The court questioned the delay in activating GRAP-4, which mandates severe restrictions when AQI exceeds 400.
“When AQI is between 300 and 400, Stage 4 should be initiated without delay. Delays endanger public health,” the bench remarked.
The Delhi government informed the court that GRAP-4 was implemented on Monday, including restrictions such as a ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into the capital. However, the court emphasised that Stage 4 must remain active even if AQI dips below 450, and any relaxation would require judicial clearance.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) had announced GRAP-4 measures on Sunday, enforcing them from 8 am Monday. These include halting construction at public projects and banning non-essential trucks unless they run on cleaner fuels like LNG, CNG, or BS-VI diesel.
Delhi’s pollution levels worsened over the weekend, with AQI hitting 457 on Sunday evening due to adverse weather conditions. The Supreme Court is also reviewing a plea seeking immediate action to mitigate air pollution, reiterating that the right to a pollution-free environment is a fundamental right under Article 21 of the Constitution.
Further discussions on the matter are expected later in the day as the court seeks a detailed report on measures taken by authorities to combat the crisis.

Hyderabad : Actor Kasthuri Shankar, known for her roles in films such as Indian and Annamayya, was arrested by a Chennai police team in Hyderabad’s Gachibowli area. The arrest, confirmed by a TV news report on Saturday evening, follows a backlash over her alleged objectionable remarks about the Telugu community’s lineage during a Hindu Makkal Katchi meeting.
Kasthuri’s remarks suggested that the ancestry of the Telugu community in Tamil Nadu traced back to courtesans who served kings. The controversial statement sparked outrage, with accusations that she had insulted the community and its heritage. She made the comments while addressing the political party DMK at a rally against what she termed as “Brahmin persecution.”
Amid mounting criticism, Kasthuri issued a public apology, stating, “It was never my intention to hurt or offend my Telugu extended family. I withdraw all references to Telugu in my speech.” She added that the controversy had “diverted focus from more important points” she intended to raise. However, her apology did little to quell the anger, as many felt it did not directly address her comments about women.
The backlash led to legal action, and on Thursday, the Madras High Court dismissed Kasthuri’s anticipatory bail plea, paving the way for her arrest. The court noted that her apology was inadequate in addressing the gravity of her remarks.
Reports revealed that Kasthuri had gone into hiding in recent days, with her phone switched off and her whereabouts unknown. Chennai police tracked her down to Hyderabad and took her into custody, subsequently transporting her to Chennai for further legal proceedings.
In response to the backlash, Kasthuri took to her X account (formerly Twitter) to claim that “false news” was being propagated by “Tamil Nadu’s Goebbels and the anti-Hindu DMK network.”
Kasthuri, who debuted in the Tamil film Aatha Un Koyilile in 1991, has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films. Her recent works include the Telugu movie Simbaa and the TV show Seethe Ramudiki Katnam.
The controversy surrounding her remarks continues to dominate headlines, highlighting the sensitivities around cultural identity and heritage.

“Negligence Under Fire: Jhansi Hospital Tragedy Raises Alarming Questions on Safety Measures”
Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, Nov 16 A devastating fire in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi claimed the lives of at least 10 children, while 16 others are critically injured and undergoing treatment. The incident occurred late Friday night around 10:45 pm, reportedly due to an electrical short circuit, according to District Magistrate (DM) Avinash Kumar.
The fire broke out in the children’s ward of the medical college, causing widespread panic and chaos as parents and staff scrambled to save the young patients. The DM confirmed that the children in the outer section of the NICU were rescued, along with some from the inner section.
“Prima facie, we have reports of 10 fatalities. Rescue efforts saved many children, but 16 remain critical,” said DM Kumar.
Over 50 Children in the NICU at the Time
Divisional Commissioner Bimal Kumar Dubey revealed that approximately 30 children were in the interior section of the NICU during the fire, most of whom were successfully evacuated. However, the fire left 16 children severely injured, requiring immediate medical attention. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sudha Singh confirmed that there were over 50 children admitted to the NICU when the fire broke out.
Firefighters and district officials promptly reached the scene to control the blaze and assist with rescue operations. Distressing visuals from the site showed police and medical staff evacuating panic-stricken patients and their families as the fire raged.
Families Grieve Their Loss
A couple from Mahoba district was seen mourning the loss of their newborn child. The mother, overwhelmed with grief, shared that her baby was born just three days ago, on November 13. “My child has been killed in the fire,” she said tearfully.
Government Response
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the tragedy, instructing district officials to provide proper care to the injured and conduct a thorough investigation. The administration has assured that the cause of the fire will be probed, and measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
Similar Incidents in Uttar Pradesh
This tragic incident adds to the growing list of hospital fires in Uttar Pradesh. In recent years, several hospitals have reported fires, often attributed to short circuits, highlighting the urgent need for improved fire safety measures in healthcare facilities. Notable incidents include:
In August 2021, a fire at a COVID-19 ward in Lucknow claimed eight lives.
In 2019, a similar fire in Kanpur’s government hospital led to multiple injuries but no fatalities.
These incidents underline systemic negligence in maintaining fire safety standards, especially in critical wards such as NICUs. With the Jhansi tragedy, questions are again being raised about the preparedness of medical institutions to handle emergencies.

Hyderabad, November 15, 2024 — A 20-year-old MBBS student from Telangana, Chintha Snigdha, tragically died under suspicious circumstances in her hostel room at the University of Perpetual Help-System in the Philippines on Friday. The young woman, who had moved to the Philippines two years ago to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor, was in her second year of the MBBS program when the incident occurred.
Chintha Snigdha was the daughter of Chintha Amrutha Rao, a senior official at Transco in Medak. Snigdha had made the brave decision to study abroad, a journey that began with hope and aspirations but ended in a devastating tragedy. According to initial reports, the cause of death has not yet been determined. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding her sudden death.
In a desperate bid to bring her daughter’s body back to India, Chintha Amrutha Rao has been in communication with officials from the Indian Embassy in the Philippines, seeking assistance in repatriating the remains. He is also in touch with elected representatives to expedite the process.
This unfortunate incident has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of Indian students studying abroad. Over the years, there have been several instances where Indian students have met untimely deaths in foreign countries, particularly in countries like the Philippines, China, and Russia, where a large number of students pursue medical degrees.
The embassy and local authorities in the Philippines are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the case to determine whether foul play was involved. Meanwhile, the family and friends of Chintha Snigdha are left mourning the loss of a young life cut short, as they await answers regarding her untimely demise.
Indian students continue to face significant challenges while studying abroad, from safety concerns to the complexities of living in a foreign country. This case further highlights the urgent need for greater attention to student welfare and security by both the Indian government and foreign educational institutions.

Is This Politics? Rahul Gandhi Faces Delays in Godda Amid Growing Controversy
Ranchi, Nov 15 (Agency) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi was stranded at Deoghar airport in Jharkhand for nearly two hours on Friday after his special Indian Air Force (IAF) plane developed a technical snag. The snag prevented the aircraft from taking off, causing a delay in the Prime Minister’s return journey to New Delhi after attending a function in Bihar.
PM Modi had addressed a rally in Jamui, Bihar, located around 80 km from Deoghar, marking the 150th birth anniversary of tribal leader Birsa Munda, an event commemorated as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas. After the rally, he was expected to return to Delhi on the IAF aircraft, but technical issues with the plane led to an unexpected delay.
Technical Snag and Wait at Deoghar Airport According to Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Vishal Sagar, “PM Modi left for Delhi from Deoghar in another special aircraft after his IAF plane developed a technical snag. The aircraft could not be rectified on time, forcing the Prime Minister to wait for more than two hours.”
During the wait, the region’s airspace was temporarily declared a “no-flying zone” for security reasons. Officials worked to resolve the issue with the aircraft, but due to the extensive delay, a decision was made to fly PM Modi back to Delhi in an alternate plane.
Political Controversy: Rahul Gandhi Faces Similar Situation in Godda In a related development, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi found himself in a similar predicament in Godda, Jharkhand. Gandhi’s helicopter, which was scheduled to take him back after an election rally, was also grounded for nearly two hours. This led to political allegations from the Congress party, claiming the delay was politically motivated.
State minister Deepika Pandey Singh accused the government of deliberately grounding Gandhi’s helicopter, stating, “Our leader Rahul Gandhi’s helicopter was not allowed to take off for about two hours, posing a grave threat to his life. This was a security lapse at the behest of the Centre.”
Both incidents have raised concerns over the coordination and management of air travel for high-profile political leaders in Jharkhand. While PM Modi’s delay was attributed to a technical issue with his IAF plane, the Congress party continues to assert that Gandhi’s delay was politically motivated, adding fuel to an ongoing political controversy in the state.
Security and Operational Impact The technical snag that delayed PM Modi’s departure highlights the challenges faced in maintaining the readiness of aircraft used by top government officials. While the airspace was declared a no-fly zone for the safety and security of the Prime Minister, the issue of delays in high-level travel has prompted calls for better contingency planning and operational transparency.
The Jharkhand state government has yet to respond to the allegations regarding the grounding of Rahul Gandhi’s helicopter, and the political fallout from both incidents is likely to continue.
