Telangana and Puducherry Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan Steps Down, Eyes BJP Candidacy

0

Hyderabad, March 18, 2024 – In a surprise move, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan tendered her resignation from her gubernatorial roles, signaling a potential entry into the political battleground. The seasoned politician, who also serves as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, is speculated to be eyeing a candidature under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) banner.

Soundararajan’s resignation, submitted to President Draupadi Murumu, arrives just ahead of the impending Lok Sabha nominations in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Her decision has sent ripples across political circles, particularly in light of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Telangana, where he stayed at the Raj Bhavan during his campaign.

A stalwart within the BJP, Soundararajan has weathered political storms in Tamil Nadu, steering the party through challenging times when electoral alliances seemed elusive. With her sights set on the upcoming parliamentary elections, she is speculated to contest from either Chennai (South) or Tirunelveli constituencies.

Having previously contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Thoothukudi, where she faced defeat against DMK’s Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Soundararajan’s political journey has been marked by resilience and determination. Her appointment as Governor of Telangana in 2019, followed by the additional charge of Puducherry’s Lieutenant Governor in 2021, underscored her administrative acumen and political clout.

Soundararajan’s political lineage adds depth to her narrative, being the daughter of veteran Congressman Kumari Ananthan. Despite familial ties, she embraced the BJP in the 1990s, embarking on a political trajectory that saw her ascend to leadership roles within the party.

Notably, Soundararajan’s transition from a gubernatorial position to electoral politics echoes past precedents, reminiscent of Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan’s resignation in 2019 to contest against Congress’ Shashi Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram, albeit unsuccessfully.

As Tamil Nadu braces for electoral fervor, Soundararajan’s resignation heralds a new chapter in her political odyssey, one that could significantly influence the state’s political landscape and the BJP’s electoral prospects.

Election Commission Orders Extensive Bureaucratic Transfers Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls, West Bengal DGP Replaced

0

New Delhi: In a move aimed at ensuring fairness in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission issued orders on Monday for the transfer of key bureaucratic officials across several states, alongside the replacement of the Director General of Police (DGP) in West Bengal, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The directive includes the removal of home secretaries from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Additionally, the DGP of West Bengal is slated for replacement, as confirmed by sources.

Furthermore, the General Administrative Department secretaries of Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh have been instructed to step down. Following the announcement of the election schedule, Election Commission Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar also mandated the removal of Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, along with additional commissioners and deputy commissioners.

Notably, the Commission had previously instructed all state governments to transfer officers involved in election-related tasks who have either completed three years in their current positions or are stationed in their home districts. However, Maharashtra had not fully complied with these directives regarding certain municipal commissioners and additional/deputy municipal commissioners.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the state’s response, the Commission directed the Chief Secretary to expedite the transfer of the BMC officials and the additional/deputy commissioners, with a deadline set for 6 pm on Monday.

Additionally, the Chief Secretary was tasked with transferring similar officials from other municipal corporations across Maharashtra. These actions are part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to maintain fairness and integrity in the electoral process, a goal emphasized by CEC Kumar on multiple occasions.

The decision follows a meeting of the Commission, comprising CEC Kumar and fellow Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, held earlier on Monday.

The apex court emphasized that the SBI must not be selective in its disclosures, insisting on the revelation of all conceivable electoral bond details, including unique bond numbers linking buyers to recipient political parties.

This directive follows the release of electoral bond details predating April 12, 2019. The Election Commission of India, in compliance with Supreme Court directives, made public data on electoral bonds submitted by political parties in sealed covers.

Key Highlights:

  1. BJP Leads in Electoral Bond Funds: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party emerges atop the list, having received a substantial sum of ₹6986.5 crore ($842mn) through electoral bonds in 2018.
  2. Significant Contributions: Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress secured ₹1,397 crore ($168.5mn), followed closely by the Congress with ₹1,334 crore ($160.9mn), and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi with ₹1,322 crore ($159mn).
  3. Regional Players: Noteworthy contributions include Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal with ₹944.5 crore ($113.8mn), and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam with ₹656.5 crore ($79.1mn).
  4. Undisclosed Beneficiaries: Bonds worth ₹859 crore ($103.6mn) purchased by Future Gaming lack disclosed beneficiaries due to incomplete donor information from political parties.
  5. AAP’s Contributions: Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party, though not providing a consolidated donation figure, received ₹69 crore ($8.32mn) as per SBI records and disclosures to the Election Commission.
  6. Redemption and Receipts: Various parties, including the Telugu Desam Party, Shiv Sena, and Rashtriya Janata Dal, disclosed redemption and donation figures, contributing significantly to the electoral funding landscape.
  7. Transparency Concerns: While some parties revealed donor identities, major players like the BJP, Congress, and TMC have faced scrutiny for incomplete disclosures.
  8. Anonymous Contributions: The revelation of anonymous donations, such as those received by Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, underscores transparency challenges in electoral funding.

The Supreme Court’s insistence on comprehensive disclosure marks a significant step towards greater transparency in electoral financing, aiming to uphold the integrity of democratic processes.

Watch // ‘Chaddi Gang’ Strikes Again, Robs Rs 7.85 Lakh from Hyderabad School

0

The infamous ‘Chaddi Gang’ has once again made headlines, this time for looting Rs 7.85 lakh in cash from a private school in Hafeezpet, Hyderabad.

The daring theft occurred during the late hours of Sunday at the World One School, located within the jurisdiction of the Miyapur Police Station under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.

Security footage from the school’s CCTV cameras captured the moment when two masked culprits, donning only underwear and gloves, forcibly entered the premises and rifled through a table in search of valuables.

The authorities were alerted to the crime after the school management filed a formal complaint on Sunday.

Notorious for their criminal activities, the ‘Chaddi Gang’ has been a recurring problem in various regions, particularly on the outskirts. Last August, the gang was spotted in a gated community in Madhapur. Additionally, their presence has been noted on the outskirts of Tirupati in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

Law enforcement suspects that the members of the ‘Chaddi Gang’ originate from different states. They have a reputation for targeting locked residences and commercial establishments on the fringes of urban areas.

Political Shift in Telangana: BRS MPs Dr. Ranjith Reddy, P. Dayakar, and Khairatabad MLA D. Nagender Join Congress

0

Hyderabad:- In a significant political development, Khairatabad BRS MLA and former Minister Danam Nagender tendered his resignation from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Sunday, opting to join the ranks of the Congress. Nagender’s move hints at a potential candidacy for the Congress in the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seats, disrupting the aspirations of former Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, who had positioned himself for a nomination. Alongside Chevella BRS MP Dr. Ranjit Reddy, Nagender made the transition to the Congress, formalizing his decision in the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and AICC in-charge Deepa Das Munshi.

Nagender’s political journey has seen its share of shifts and realignments. Despite his tenure with the Congress from 1994 to 2004, he switched allegiance to the TDP just before the polls, securing victory in the Asifnagar seat in 2004 but facing subsequent setbacks. Nagender’s electoral saga continued with victories in Asifnagar and later Khairatabad, serving as a Minister in YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s and Konijeti Rosaiah’s Cabinets. His recent transition from the BRS to the Congress marks yet another chapter in his political trajectory.

The defection of Chevella MP Dr. Gaddam Ranjith Reddy and Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender deals a significant blow to the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana. With four members leaving the party in the span of two days, including Warangal MP Pasunoori Dayakar and former MLA Aroori Ramesh, who joined the Congress and BJP respectively, the BRS faces a period of internal upheaval.

In his statement, MP Ranjith Reddy cited “evolving political circumstances” as the catalyst for his decision to resign from the BRS, expressing gratitude for the opportunities and cooperation extended during his tenure representing the Chevella constituency. As these defections reshape the political landscape in Telangana, the repercussions are likely to reverberate across party lines.

Tragedy Strikes: Hyderabad’s Asfan, Fatally Shot at Ukraine Border, Laid to Rest in Bazar Guard

0

Hyderabad, March 17, 2024 — Today, the heart of Hyderabad weighed heavy as the final rites of Mohammad Asfan unfolded at Masjid-e-Qutub Shahi in Bazar Guard. Asfan’s promising life was abruptly cut short by a fatal bullet at the Ukrainian border, plunging his family and the community into profound grief.

Under the watchful gaze of the sun, mourners, gripped by sorrow, gathered in multitudes to pay their respects and offer prayers for Asfan’s departed soul. Among them stood Asaduddin Owaisi, MP and AIMIM Chief, sharing in the collective mourning.

Asfan, employed as a store manager at Allen Solley, was enticed by the allure of a prosperous opportunity in Russia. However, what seemed like a hopeful journey to Moscow swiftly turned sinister as he and others found themselves unwittingly thrust into the turmoil of Ukraine under the pretext of aiding the Russian military.

The narrative of Asfan’s journey, commencing in November the previous year, met a tragic denouement at the border, leaving behind a tapestry of unanswered queries and unfulfilled aspirations. Recounting their final exchange on December 31 via video call, Asfan’s brother, Imran, disclosed the grim reality of his brother’s injury, underscoring the dire need for governmental intervention.

Swift action from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Russia ensured Asfan’s mortal remains were repatriated to his grieving family in Hyderabad. Yet, Asfan’s ordeal serves as a stark emblem of a larger issue. Many Indian nationals have been ensnared by deceptive recruitment schemes, coerced into serving alongside the Russian Army, prompting vehement condemnation and decisive measures from Indian authorities.

In the wake of Asfan’s untimely demise, the nation grapples not only with the loss of a cherished son but also with the sobering realities of deceptive practices and the vulnerabilities faced by those seeking prosperity beyond borders. As his memory reverberates through the corridors of grief, it stands as a poignant reminder of the profound human toll exacted by conflict and exploitation.

BRS MLA Danam Nagender in Talks to Join Congress

Hyderabad :- Speculation mounts as Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) stalwart and Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender reportedly held discussions with Telangana Chief Minister and TPCC Chief A Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, and AICC Chief Deepdas Munsi on Friday, March 15. This development comes on the eve of the Election Commission of India’s scheduled announcement of dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

If Nagender’s rumored defection to the Congress materializes, it could deal a significant blow to the pink party, which continues to grapple with the recent resignations of key leaders.

Having commenced his political journey with the Congress, Nagender served as an MLA for Asifnagar from 1994 to 2014. Notably, in 2009, he assumed the role of Health & Family Welfare Minister in Andhra Pradesh under the leadership of the late YS Rajashaker Reddy. Subsequently, Nagender briefly aligned with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) before rejoining the Congress.

In 2018, he transitioned to the TRS (now BRS). Throughout his career, Nagender held pivotal ministerial portfolios, including Labour, Employment, Training & Factories, and Industrial Training Institutes & Health in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.

Nagender’s political trajectory saw him clinch victories in both the 2018 and 2023 state elections, securing the Khairatabad constituency on both occasions. Stay tuned as developments unfold in this potentially game-changing political maneuver.

ED Arrests BRS Leader K. Kavitha in Connection with Liquor Scam, Activists Gather at House

0

Hyderabad :- In a significant development, Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials arrested BRS MLC and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, on Friday evening in connection with the Delhi liquor scam. The arrest follows prolonged searches at her Hyderabad residence, culminating in her custody by ED authorities.

Tension mounted at Kavitha’s residence as a sizable contingent of BRS activists gathered, attempting to impede the ED officials’ arrest procedures. Despite the resistance, the ED officials finalized arrangements to transfer Kavitha to Delhi, booking a flight ticket for her tonight.

Notably, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had earlier issued a notice to Kavitha for interrogation, which she evaded. Moreover, she had previously ignored summons from the ED. Though not explicitly named as an accused in the liquor scam charge-sheet, Kavitha faced intensive questioning under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act by both ED and CBI.

Interestingly, Kavitha’s arrest coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled roadshow in the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha segment in Hyderabad.

Reacting to the arrest, BRS leader Sravan accused the ED and IT (Income Tax) of acting on behalf of the BJP, alleging a selective approach in targeting BRS leaders while ignoring similar cases involving Congress leaders in Telangana.

The ED has alleged that Vijay Nair, one of the accused in the case, received substantial kickbacks from the “South Group,” purportedly controlled by Sarath Reddy, Kavitha, and Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, on behalf of AAP leaders.

Former Ministers KT Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao arrived at Kavitha’s residence to confront ED officials, questioning the legality of the arrest warrant without a transit warrant.

The arrest of Kavitha marks a significant development in the ongoing probe into the Delhi liquor scam, stirring political ripples and intensifying the scrutiny on BRS leadership amidst the electoral landscape.
