Rollback Privatisation Policy of Sainik Schools in National Interest: Kharge Urges President

0

New Delhi: In a letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge fervently appealed for the reversal of the privatisation policy concerning Sainik Schools, citing paramount national interest.

Kharge emphasized the historical precedence of keeping the armed forces free from partisan influence in Indian democracy. He underscored the tradition upheld by successive governments, ensuring that the armed forces and their affiliated institutions remain apolitical.

Drawing attention to an investigative report based on an RTI reply, Kharge pointed out the alarming trend of Sainik Schools being privatised under a new PPP model introduced by the current government. He highlighted that a significant portion—62 per cent—of these schools are purportedly owned by leaders affiliated with the BJP-RSS nexus.

Expressing concern over the potential ramifications, Kharge urged for the complete rollback of the privatisation policy and the nullification of associated MoUs. He stressed the necessity of preserving the essential character, vision, and honor of Sainik Schools, crucial for nurturing future defenders of the nation.

Kharge delineated the background of Sainik Schools as fully government-funded institutions under the aegis of the Sainik Schools Society, operated autonomously under the Ministry of Defence. He lamented the government’s initiation of privatisation in 2021, which resulted in the signing of MoUs for 40 new schools under a model offering substantial financial support.

Furthermore, Kharge highlighted the disconcerting finding that a majority of these MoUs—62 per cent—are with individuals and organizations affiliated with the RSS-BJP-Sangh Parivar, including political figures and RSS leaders. He condemned this as a blatant attempt to politicize institutions crucial for preparing cadets for the National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy.

In Kharge’s view, this move represents an ideological intrusion into the armed forces’ entry-level training, a departure from the established consensus to maintain the armed forces’ valor and courage above partisan politics. He warned against the potential damage to the inclusive and national character of Sainik Schools, cautioning against the influence of partisan ideologies on their ethos.

Kharge concluded by asserting that this deviation from convention serves the ideological agenda of certain groups at the expense of the armed forces’ integrity, urging for immediate corrective action to safeguard national interests.

KTR Urges Voters to Defeat Communal BJP

0

Hyderabad: Addressing the BRS cadre during the Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency meeting in Medipally near Medchal, BRS working president KT Rama Rao called for voters to defeat the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He criticized the BJP for its communal nature and lack of contribution to Telangana over the last decade.

Rama Rao highlighted the difference in approach between former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who built the Yadadri temple without political exploitation, and BJP leaders who he accused of using Lord Ram’s name for political gain.

He emphasized the BRS’s devotion to Lord Ram but stated they would never misuse his name for votes, asserting that Lord Ram belongs to all Hindus, not just the BJP.

Rama Rao criticized Narendra Modi, calling him the most inhuman Prime Minister for his handling of migrant laborers during the lockdown and accused him of favoring crony capitalists over farmers.

He also accused Modi and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of conspiring against the BRS, alleging that Reddy plans to join the BJP after the elections with 30 Congress MLAs.

Rama Rao expressed disappointment in the current government’s inability to fulfill promises, particularly regarding water supply, contrasting it with the BRS’s previous achievements.

Anonymous Political Posters, Hoardings Banned: Election Commission

0

New Delhi: In a bid to ensure transparency and accountability in poll campaigning, the Election Commission has issued directives prohibiting anonymous political posters and hoardings. The Commission emphasized the necessity of clear identification of printers and publishers on all election-related material.

The decision comes in response to concerns raised regarding the presence of hoardings lacking proper identification in spaces controlled by municipal authorities. To address this, the Commission has instructed States and Union Territories to enforce the clear identification of printers and publishers on election-related material, including hoardings.

Moreover, the Commission highlighted recent instructions issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to its licensees and contractors regarding political advertisements on outdoor media. These instructions permit political ads for promoting parties or candidates but prohibit any advertisements against a party or candidate.

Furthermore, political advertisements funded by the exchequer for the publicity of a party or government in power are strictly prohibited. All political advertisements must receive certification or approval from the designated authority responsible for advertisement approval.

The Commission reiterated the legal requirement, outlined in section 127A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which mandates the prominent display of the name and address of the printer and publisher on election pamphlets, posters, placards, or banners. This requirement plays a crucial role in regulating campaign financing and assigning responsibility for any inappropriate content.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar emphasized the importance of combating misinformation, alongside challenges such as money and muscle power, for ensuring a fair electoral process. The Commission’s directive places accountability on printers, publishers, and urban local body licensees/contractors renting outdoor advertising space for political advertisements published on outdoor media.

WATCH: Nirmala Sitharaman’s Husband Warns of Potential Changes to India’s Map if BJP Re-Elected

0

New Delhi, April 10, 2024 – Parakala Prabhakar, husband of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has issued a stark warning, suggesting that India’s map and constitution could undergo significant alterations if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secures victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In a video shared by the Congress on the microblogging site X, Prabhakar, a prominent economist, expressed concerns over the potential consequences of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s re-election. He suggested that a scenario similar to the Ladakh-Manipur situation could emerge nationwide if the BJP returns to power.

Prabhakar went on to say that should PM Modi secure another term, India might not witness another election process, indicating a potential shift towards a more authoritarian regime. He also warned of escalating hate speeches, citing examples like ‘isko Pakistan jaane ka hai, jane do’ (If they want to go to Pakistan, let them), suggesting that such rhetoric could emanate from the Red Fort under Modi’s leadership.

The economist highlighted the ethnic clashes in Manipur between the Kuki and Meitei communities, indicating that such unrest could become commonplace across India under a renewed BJP government.

Earlier, in March, Prabhakar had labeled the electoral bond scam as not only the biggest scam in India but also the world. He claimed that the fight was no longer between two alliances but between the BJP and the people of India.

It’s worth noting that Finance Minister Sitharaman recently declined BJP President JP Nadda’s offer to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu, citing a lack of funds.

NASA to Live Stream Total Solar Eclipse 2024, Bringing the Spectacle to Global Audiences

The upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, marks the first solar eclipse of the year and is anticipated to be a spectacular sight for observers in North America, the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Arctic, western Europe, and northern South America. However, this celestial phenomenon will not be visible in India.

The eclipse is scheduled to begin at approximately 9:12 pm IST on April 8 and conclude around 2:22 am IST on April 9, according to timeanddate.com. During this time, the Moon will pass between the Earth and the Sun, casting its darkest shadow, known as the umbra, on the planet, resulting in a total solar eclipse.

Observers within the path of totality will witness the Sun’s outer atmosphere, the corona, becoming visible. It is crucial to note that staring directly at the Sun during the total eclipse phase can cause severe eye damage. Specialized eye protection, such as eclipse glasses or telescopes with solar filters, is recommended for safe viewing.

For those in India unable to view the eclipse in person due to the event occurring at night, NASA will provide a live stream of the total solar eclipse on its official YouTube channel and social media platforms.

The eclipse will progress through five stages: the beginning of the partial solar eclipse (first contact), the beginning of the total solar eclipse (second contact), totality and maximum eclipse, the end of the total eclipse (third contact), and the end of the partial eclipse (fourth contact).

During the second contact phase, the Moon will gradually cover the entire disk of the Sun, leading to the diamond ring effect in some regions within the umbra’s path. The totality and maximum stage will see the Moon completely obscuring the Sun’s disk, revealing only the corona and causing darkness to fall.

As the Moon moves away from the Sun during the third contact phase, the Sun will gradually reappear, marking the end of the total eclipse. The eclipse will conclude with the Moon no longer visible on the Sun’s disk during the fourth contact phase, signaling the end of the partial eclipse.
