Rahul Gandhi’s Electoral Strategy: Retains Rae Bareli, Priyanka Gandhi to Contest Wayanad Bypoll

0

Congress announced on Monday that Rahul Gandhi, after winning the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat earlier this month by a significant margin, will now relinquish it, opting to retain the Rae Bareli constituency in Uttar Pradesh, a stronghold of his family. This decision paves the way for his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, to enter electoral politics by contesting the bypolls from the Kerala constituency. Gandhi expressed his emotions, acknowledging that leaving Wayanad was a tough choice.

In his first reaction to this development, Gandhi mentioned his emotional ties with both Wayanad and Rae Bareli. “I have an emotional connection with Wayanad and Rae Bareli. I was an MP from Wayanad for the last 5 years. I thank the people for their love and support,” he stated, adding that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will contest the elections from Wayanad, but he will visit periodically.

“I have an old relationship with Rae Bareli, I am happy that I will get to represent them again but it was a tough decision,” he remarked.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who entered active politics before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, vowed not to let Wayanad feel Rahul Gandhi’s absence. “I am very happy to be able to represent Wayanad and I will not let them feel his (Rahul Gandhi’s) absence,” she stated. “I have a very old relationship with Rae Bareli and Amethi, and it cannot be broken. I will also help my brother in Rae Bareli. We will both be present in Rae Bareli and Wayanad,” she added.

The brother-sister duo warmly embraced each other after the press conference.

Rahul Gandhi, who lost the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi in 2019 but won the Wayanad seat in Kerala, contested the 2024 general elections from both Wayanad and Rae Bareli. He emerged victorious in both constituencies with significant margins.

SIO, MBT, TJAC and Others Strongly Condemn the Hindutva Attacks in Medak

Watch the Video: “See the pain and distress of the Doctor” – “Was it a crime for this doctor to treat an injured person? Unfortunately, the crowd didn’t spare him and he was compelled to cry.” You will see in the video how Dr. Naveen expressed his pain.

The Telangana Muslim Organizations Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders expressed regret that the police remained silent while riots continued for three hours in Medak town. They also questioned the police’s role in preventing the violence. “It is known that the RSS circulated fake videos and images in Medak town before the incident. In the evening, they attacked Muslim hotels, shops, and other establishments.”

They further stated that these attacks were premeditated, and the Congress government was not vigilant in this regard. They warned that such incidents are likely to happen again, and accused the BJP of trying to increase its power by inciting such tensions. They alleged that the BJP planned the attack on its own members to gain notoriety. The committee expressed concern that if an organization had been conspiring to incite riots during the Bakrid festival for the past week, the state government failed to prevent it.

Notably, the management of the religious school Minhaj-ul-Uloom in Medak town had purchased a large animal for sacrifice on Eid-ul-Adha. Tension arose during the transfer of the animal to the school, and local Hindutva organizations started rioting and creating disturbances. They demanded that the large animal be moved to a cowshed. Following local intervention, the Hindutva organization members withdrew. According to media reports, an hour later, a large procession arrived, chanting slogans, and attacked the school. Individuals inside and outside the school were injured by stick attacks and were admitted to the local hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the police used force to disperse the crowd. Hindutva organization members attacked the hospital where the injured were being treated, entering the hospital to beat the injured, pelting stones, and damaging vehicles present. The police dispersed the attackers with a baton charge. As news of the incident spread, tension escalated in the area, and the market was shut down. The police increased patrolling in the town as a precaution. According to the injured, the action was taken to target minorities in a planned manner. The school and local individuals were deliberately targeted. According to Medak police, the situation is under control and peaceful.

Saturday , in Medak, a hospital and nearby businesses owned by Muslims were viciously attacked by an organized mob of locals chanting “Jai Sri Ram,” “Jai Gau Mata,” and other slogans. This assault on the civilians has occurred despite the close proximity of a police station, which failed to maintain public order.

Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesman for MBT, expressed astonishment at Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy’s silence on the Medak incident. Khan criticized the Chief Minister for not taking immediate action and accused him of appeasing Hindutva elements. Khan demanded the suspension of the Superintendent of Police in Medak and the entire staff who were on duty during the violence.

Khan pointed out that only two individuals from BJP and BJYM were arrested, even though videos showed over 200 participants in the violence. He also criticized the local MLA, Dr. Rohit Mynapally, for not visiting the injured or addressing the damage to the hospital.

Khan highlighted that Muslims in Medak had voted against the BRS candidate due to her silence on the custodial death of Mohammed Khadeer and instead elected Dr. Rohit Mynapally, whose response was also inadequate. He called for Mynapally and his father, Mynapally Hanumanth Rao, to ensure the arrest of all responsible for the communal attacks.

Khan was also surprised that no Muslim delegation, political or non-political, had tried to meet the Chief Minister regarding the Medak issue. He demanded a judicial inquiry into the communal incident, where BJP and RSS members were seen attacking Muslims and their properties.

The violence began when communal elements objected to the presence of oxen at the Minhaj-ul-Uloom Madrasa in Indrapuri Colony, falsely claiming they were brought for slaughter. Despite informing the police, the mob entered the madrasa and attacked, injuring ten people.

As of the latest report, seven individuals have been arrested and sent to judicial custody, and Section 144 has been imposed.

In a disturbing turn of events, a Forest Range Officer (FRO), a section officer, and two other staff members of the forest department were injured in an attack by local villagers at Kalpole forest area under Mugpal mandal in Nizamabad district.

The altercation arose when villagers were discovered ploughing the land with a tractor in the forest area. Upon being informed, Forest Range Officer K Radhika, a section officer, and three beat officers rushed to intervene. Accompanied by a police constable, they attempted to halt the villagers’ activities.

However, tensions escalated as the locals claimed ownership of the land and insisted on continuing their ploughing. When forest officials intervened, a group of 40 to 50 villagers descended upon the scene and launched a violent assault. FRO Radhika was targeted, with her hand being twisted, but was rescued by her colleagues.

Section officer Sai Krishna also sustained injuries to his right hand from stone pelting. Additionally, two beat officers were roughed up during the confrontation. The disputed land, spanning 39 hectares, belongs to the forest department and was designated for plantation in 2021. Despite official ownership, there have been ongoing attempts by locals to encroach upon the land.

Forest officials have filed a complaint with local police, prompting an investigation. This incident is not isolated, as similar encroachment attempts have been thwarted by forest officials in the past.

New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has approved the prosecution of author-activist Arundhati Roy and Dr. Sheikh Showkat Hussain, a former professor at the Central University of Kashmir, under Section 45 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The sanction relates to a 2010 FIR accusing the duo of delivering provocative public speeches.

Background: The FIR was filed following a complaint by social activist Sushil Pandit in 2010. Last October, the L-G granted sanction under Section 196 of the CrPC for prosecuting the accused on charges of promoting enmity between different groups and making statements intended to incite public mischief.

Incident Details: The complaint alleges that Roy and Hussain made incendiary remarks at an October 2010 conference titled “Azadi – The Only Way,” held at LTG Auditorium, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi.

President Biden’s Son, Hunter Biden, Found Guilty of All 3 Felonies in Federal Gun Trial

0

In a significant legal development, Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has been found guilty on all three felony charges related to his 2018 purchase of a revolver. Prosecutors contended that Hunter Biden provided false information on a mandatory gun-purchase form by denying his illegal drug use.

The jury, following deliberations spanning two days in Wilmington, Delaware, unanimously found him guilty of lying to a federally licensed gun dealer, making a false claim on the application, and illegally possessing the gun for an extended period.

Hunter Biden, displaying minimal emotion, embraced his attorneys and wife following the verdict, departing from the courtroom alongside the first lady without addressing reporters.

While he faces a potential prison sentence of up to 25 years, uncertainties persist regarding the actual duration of his incarceration, as sentencing has yet to be scheduled.

This conviction adds a new layer of complexity to the political landscape, with both Hunter Biden and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump now having faced convictions in an election year marked by legal proceedings.

President Biden has maintained a cautious distance from the trial, refraining from extensive commentary to avoid perceptions of interference with the Justice Department’s handling of the case.

However, concerns linger among allies about the impact of the trial on the 81-year-old president, particularly concerning the health and sobriety of his only living son.

Despite assertions from both Hunter Biden and Trump that they were victims of political maneuvering, President Biden has reiterated his acceptance of the verdict and his decision not to pursue a pardon for his son.

While this conviction concludes one legal chapter for Hunter Biden, further trials await him, including one in California in September on tax-related charges.

The trial shed light on Hunter Biden’s struggles with drug addiction, with personal testimonies and evidence underscoring the severity of his substance abuse issues.

The defense argued nuances in Hunter Biden’s state of mind at the time of the gun purchase, attempting to distinguish between alcohol abuse and drug addiction. However, the prosecution’s evidence prevailed in convincing the jury of the extent of Hunter Biden’s addiction, contributing to the guilty verdict.

Despite attempts to resolve the matter outside the courtroom, the breakdown of negotiations led to the indictment of Hunter Biden last year. The legal saga involving Hunter Biden has attracted significant attention, with implications reaching beyond the courtroom to the broader political arena.
