Sangareddy, September 10, 2024: In a crackdown on fraudulent medical practices, District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr. Gayathri Devi seized a medical lab at a private hospital on Tuesday for issuing false dengue positive reports. The action was taken following multiple complaints regarding inaccurate dengue testing.

During inspections of various private labs, Dr. Devi visited Sishu Raksha Hospital, located along a by-pass road in Sangareddy. It was discovered that the lab there was conducting dengue rapid card tests and incorrectly reporting patients as positive, which caused undue panic among local residents. Additionally, the hospital management failed to display service charges and the names of its doctors, which are required for transparency.

Dr. Devi emphasized that labs should only declare dengue positivity after conducting Elisa tests on patient samples. Further scrutiny of Charitha Hospital at Sangareddy crossroads revealed unhygienic conditions and a lack of proper biomedical waste management, leading to the seizure of its lab for not maintaining records and neglecting fire safety measures.

The DMHO has issued notices to the management of both hospitals, demanding explanations and immediate corrective actions. The inspections come amid a rise in dengue cases, underscoring the need for rigorous adherence to medical and safety standards.

Local Demand for Accountability: The local community is calling for stringent actions against white-collar criminals involved in such fraudulent practices. There is also a call for accountability for doctors who refer patients to these unscrupulous labs. This reflects a growing demand for greater oversight and integrity within the medical testing sector.
