Claims of Infant and Maternal Deaths at Gandhi Hospital Spark Political Debate; Health Dept Denies Negligence

0

Hyderabad, September 19, 2024: A social media post alleging 48 infant and 14 maternal deaths at Gandhi Hospital in August has ignited widespread concern and political debate. The post, which gained significant attention, accused the hospital of negligence in handling critical cases.

However, the Health Department quickly refuted these claims, providing official data from 2022 to 2024 to demonstrate that this year’s figures showed no abnormal increase in deaths. According to the department, there were 84 maternal deaths in 2022, 108 in 2023, and 68 recorded until August 2024. In the pediatric department, 416 infant deaths occurred in 2022, 430 in 2023, and 241 up to August 2024.

Political Blame Game Begins

The issue quickly escalated into a political war of words between the ruling Congress and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). BRS working president KT Rama Rao took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), accusing the Congress government of mismanagement.

“Telangana had achieved remarkable reductions in infant and maternal mortality rates until 2023. I demand an immediate investigation by the Chief Secretary into where the negligence occurred,” KTR posted.

Responding to the accusations, Telangana Health Minister C. Damodar Rajanarasimha defended the Congress government, criticizing the BRS for politicizing the issue. In his response, Rajanarasimha accused the opposition of attempting to defame Gandhi Hospital, which caters to economically weaker sections. “It’s shameful that BRS, which neglected government hospitals for a decade, is now continuing its conspiracies in opposition. The numbers are not new; KTR’s comments reflect ignorance and corporate allegiance,” he wrote.

Medical Experts Call for Investigation

Amid the political back-and-forth, medical professionals called for a deeper investigation into the causes of these deaths. Senior pediatrician Dr. Madap Karuna highlighted the critical condition of government hospitals, which often face challenges in providing adequate care compared to private institutions.

“Government hospitals struggle with critical care facilities, and infant deaths are often due to sepsis in ICUs, lack of ventilators, and lapses in monitoring. Maternal health, too, plays a vital role. Detailed documentation and investigation are necessary to find solutions and prevent future tragedies,” Dr. Karuna emphasized.

As political tensions rise, the healthcare community continues to stress the importance of focusing on improving hospital facilities and ensuring comprehensive investigations into these deaths.

“Exclusion of Urdu from Kaloji Kalakshetra Sparks Outrage: A Blow to Telangana’s Multilingual Heritage and Kaloji Narayana Rao’s Legacy”

0

“Kaloji Narayana Rao’s Pen Name Was ‘Baaghi’, But the Absence of Urdu on This Monument Feels Like an Injustice to His Legacy”

Hyderabad September 19 2024 :- The much-awaited Kaloji Kalakshetra, a key cultural project envisioned to reflect Telangana’s rich heritage, is nearing completion in Balasamudram, Warangal. On August 12, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department released Rs. 45 crore to expedite the final stages of construction. Despite efforts by the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) to complete the project by September 9 last year, several delays caused the costs to rise from an estimated Rs. 50 crore to Rs. 85 crore. This four-story structure, designed by noted architect Hafeez Contractor, is set to include a 1,500-seat auditorium, art gallery, library, VIP suites, and dining facilities, all equipped with modern amenities.

However, as the Kalakshetra nears its grand opening, controversy has erupted over the exclusion of Urdu from the building’s inscriptions, a decision that has sparked outrage among local citizens, cultural enthusiasts, and intellectuals. Kaloji Narayana Rao, the cultural icon after whom the Kalakshetra is named, was not only a Telugu poet but also a prolific Urdu poet, known by his pen name “Baaghi.” His brother, Kaloji Rameshwar Rao Shad, was a celebrated Urdu poet as well. The omission of Urdu from the cultural center’s design is being viewed as a failure to honor the complete legacy of the Kaloji family, which made significant contributions to both Telugu and Urdu literary traditions.

Kaloji Narayana Rao, born in 1914, was a freedom fighter, social activist, and poet whose works resonated with the masses. He used both Telugu and Urdu as mediums to address social issues, with his famous Urdu poem “Ghundo Ki Jai Bolo Ghundo Ki Jai” serving as a biting critique of corruption and injustice. Despite his profound influence, his contributions to Urdu literature have often been overlooked. The exclusion of Urdu from the Kalakshetra, therefore, is seen as a cultural oversight that undermines Telangana’s pluralistic identity.

The omission of Urdu is particularly painful given its official status as the second language of Telangana. This neglect is reminiscent of previous incidents, such as the exclusion of Urdu in the Hanamkonda Collectorate inscriptions, which was only corrected after public protests. Despite reminders and appeals, the government has not made significant strides to rectify the omission of Urdu from the Kaloji Kalakshetra project.

Local citizens and supporters of Urdu literature have called on the Telangana government to take immediate action. They argue that promoting Urdu in such a significant cultural institution is crucial for preserving the state’s linguistic and cultural diversity. The exclusion is not just an insult to Kaloji Narayana Rao’s legacy but also a step backward in Telangana’s effort to maintain its multilingual heritage.

The Kalakshetra is a symbolic project, its foundations laid in 2014 as a dream initiative of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao. Originally managed by the Department of Tourism, responsibility for the project was transferred to KUDA in 2022. Although construction has been delayed, the project is now on the verge of completion, with the final touches being put in place for the building’s grand inauguration by the present Chief Minister.

While the state government celebrates the near completion of this cultural hub, the exclusion of Urdu remains a contentious issue. Citizens and cultural enthusiasts are urging the government to ensure that Kaloji Narayana Rao’s full legacy is honored, calling for Urdu’s inclusion in the institution meant to celebrate the poet’s life and contributions. Only then, they argue, will the Kalakshetra truly reflect the rich cultural tapestry of Telangana, upholding the state’s multilingual identity and pluralistic traditions.

WATCH: Swara Bhaskar Criticizes Judiciary, Questions Priorities of CJI

0

September 19 2024 : In a viral video, actor Swara Bhaskar has sparked a heated debate by criticizing the Indian judiciary for its delays in delivering justice to prisoners awaiting trial, particularly in cases involving activists like Umar Khalid. Bhaskar’s remarks came during the event Curtailed Freedoms: A Travesty of Justice held at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi, where she addressed an audience of legal experts, activists, and prominent figures, including politicians like Digvijay Singh, and comedian Kunal Kamra.

Speaking at the event, Bhaskar directed pointed criticism at Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, accusing him of prioritizing social events with political leaders over urgent legal matters. “What are you afraid of? You have time to do a puja with PM Modi but don’t have 20 minutes for justice?” Bhaskar asked, referencing a recent Ganapati puja hosted by the CJI that featured Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Swara Bhaskar delivered her speech with a calm demeanor, smiling throughout, yet making her points in a bold and compelling manner. She highlighted the plight of activist Umar Khalid, who has been in jail for over four years without trial under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) following the 2020 Delhi riots. Comparing her situation with Khalid’s, Bhaskar reflected on her own privilege as a Hindu, saying, “I was also part of the protests, but I wasn’t jailed. Why? Because I was born into a Hindu family. It wasn’t convenient enough for the authorities to put me behind bars.”

The actor’s speech further delved into issues of religious discrimination, emphasizing how Khalid and other Muslim activists have been unfairly targeted. “It’s easy to label a Muslim as a terrorist, but tagging the daughter of a Hindu ex-Navy officer as a terrorist? That might be a bit too much,” she remarked.

In addition to her criticism of the judiciary, Swara Bhaskar also took aim at the country’s mainstream media. “The biased media in this country has left no stone unturned in spreading hatred and running hate-filled stories against Umar Khalid and others,” she said, condemning the role of media in fueling divisive narratives.

Bhaskar also questioned the integrity of the judicial system, particularly criticizing Delhi High Court judge Amit Sharma, who recently recused himself from hearing Khalid’s bail plea. “Why are you not capable? You are educated and paid by the taxes of this country. How can you recuse yourself from your responsibilities?” she asked, challenging the judge’s decision.

Adding to the conversation, standup comedian Kunal Kamra echoed similar sentiments, pointing out how his Hindu identity shielded him from persecution. “If I were a Muslim, I’d be behind bars like Umar Khalid,” Kamra said, criticizing the hypocrisy in India’s policing system. He shared an example of how his scheduled performances in Gujarat were canceled due to threats on social media, with no action taken against those who made the threats.

Kamra further compared policing in India to that in the United States, stating, “In America, if someone posts a threat online, they are questioned by the police or even taken into custody. That’s real policing.”

The event, hosted by the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) and Concerned Citizens Delhi, underscored the growing concerns over civil liberties and the selective application of laws like UAPA.

Swara Bhaskar’s sharp critique, delivered with a smile, has reignited the debate on the judiciary’s role in safeguarding civil rights and the need for timely justice for those languishing in prison without trial.

Telangana Govt to Establish Women-Led MSME Park Between ORR and RRR

More Employment Opportunities Promised as MSME Sector Strengthens, Says CM Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad : In a major push for women entrepreneurship and MSME development, the Telangana government announced a new policy to establish MSME parks with a special focus on women-led enterprises. The policy, unveiled on Wednesday, includes a Rs 100 crore fund for the technological transformation of MSMEs and the creation of dedicated industrial parks for women and startups.

Under the new plan, Telangana aims to develop one industrial park in each district over the next five years. Additionally, 10 industrial parks will be set up between the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Regional Ring Road (RRR), five of which will be MSME parks. Out of these, one park will be exclusively for women-led MSMEs and another for innovative startups. These parks will include essential facilities such as hostels, crèches, testing centers, and research and development hubs.

The new policy will also introduce the “Yantram Fund” to modernize MSMEs through innovative processes and advanced machinery. This Rs 100 crore fund will be implemented over the next four years, providing essential support for MSMEs looking to boost productivity. The fund is set to become operational within six months of the policy’s release.

A key aspect of the policy is the focus on SC/ST entrepreneurs, who currently enjoy a 33% rebate on land costs under the T-PRIDE scheme, capped at Rs 30 lakh. This cap will be increased to 50% with a limit of Rs 50 lakh under the new policy. MSMEs will also continue to receive 100% reimbursement on stamp duty for land purchases and leases for industrial use under the T-PRIDE and T-IDEA schemes.

While launching the policy, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy praised industries minister D. Sridhar Babu, calling him the “architect” of the new MSME initiative. “The efforts of Sridhar Babu are commendable. Without a policy document, no state can develop, and this new MSME policy will drive our state forward,” said Reddy.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the Congress-led government would continue the successful policies of the previous administration, ensuring that no politics interfere with the state’s development. “Good programmes will continue, and if any past decisions are harmful to the state’s interests, they will be reconsidered,” he added.

Reddy also pointed out the gap between educational standards and industrial needs, highlighting the modernization of 65 ITI institutions in partnership with Tata at a cost of Rs 2,400 crore. This move is aimed at creating a skilled workforce to meet the demands of the industry, with MSMEs playing a pivotal role in job creation and economic growth.

The Telangana government has reaffirmed its commitment to fully support MSMEs, which it sees as a cornerstone of future employment generation in the state.

Pagers, Walkie-Talkies, and Solar Systems: Explosions Ravage Lebanon

BEIRUT, September 18 2024:-  For the second consecutive day, Lebanon was struck by a series of deadly explosions targeting Hezbollah members, with hand-held communication devices detonating across the country, particularly in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Wednesday’s blasts left at least 14 people dead and more than 2000 injured, according to the media report . This attack follows a similar one on Tuesday, which caused widespread panic and devastation.

On Tuesday, thousands of pagers used by Hezbollah members exploded simultaneously across Lebanon, leading to an initial wave of chaos. Local authorities reported that those devices detonated in the hands and pockets of their users, catching many by surprise. This attack killed 11 people and left hundreds more injured, with hospitals struggling to cope with the influx of casualties. The combined toll from both days has shocked the nation, with Wednesday’s explosions further compounding the crisis.

Although Israel has not officially commented on either incident, several Lebanese, U.S., and international sources have confirmed that the country is suspected of being behind the coordinated explosions. The blasts, which targeted Hezbollah’s communications network, have significantly escalated tensions in the region.

Dr. Salah Zeineddine, Chief Medical Officer at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, described the overwhelming strain on the city’s hospitals. “The past two days have been some of the most difficult in terms of mass casualties. On Tuesday alone, our emergency room received 150 patients in just three hours. Now, with today’s attacks, we are once again facing a large-scale emergency,” he said. Despite the fatigue and shock, medical teams remain prepared to continue treating the victims.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry has confirmed that Wednesday’s attack has surpassed the toll from the previous day, with 14 dead and over 450 injured, compared to 11 deaths from Tuesday’s pager explosions. Further updates are expected as authorities continue to assess the situation and the aftermath of the attacks.

The Lebanese state news agency has also reported a disturbing new trend, with explosions now involving home solar energy systems in several areas of Beirut. With even commodes reportedly exploding, the question remains: what will be next?

Hyderabad Ganesh Idol Immersion Concludes Peacefully, Confirms City Kotwal C.V. Anand

0

Hyderabad September 18 2024 :- City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand confirmed the successful and peaceful conclusion of the final Ganesh idol immersion procession in Hyderabad. No major untoward incidents were reported during the event.

Anand stated that the immersion concluded earlier than in previous years, allowing the swift reopening of roads and traffic. “By 10:30 am, all roads and junctions were cleared, three hours ahead of last year’s schedule,” he said.

Efforts to complete the immersion by 6 or 7 am faced delays due to challenges such as vehicle breakdowns, tall idols obstructed by power cables, and the non-cooperation of certain pandal organizers. Anand assured that steps will be taken to secure better cooperation in future events to avoid such issues.

In the 10 days leading up to the final immersion, around one lakh idols were immersed in Hussainsagar Lake, with 15,000 idols immersed on the last day alone. To manage the event, 25,000 police personnel were deployed, including 15,000 from Hyderabad.

Anand also expressed gratitude to the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee, whose cooperation allowed the immersion of their giant idol by 1:30 pm on Tuesday. He further thanked other government departments, such as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), for their coordination and support during the 11-day festival.

In a message shared on his X account, Anand described the immersion process as a “Test Match” played over 11 days, with the last day extending beyond 40 hours. He praised the residents of the South Zone for their cooperation in moving their idols early, which facilitated the smooth passage of idols through Naya Pul by 10:30 pm.

“By 6 am, key traffic junctions were reopened, and by 10 am, even the last junctions, including Ambedkar and Telugu Talli Secretariat, were cleared for normal traffic. Around 1,000 idols on trucks stacked up at Necklace Road will be immersed over the next 5-6 hours without disrupting daily life,” Anand noted.

He also highlighted the issue of DJs becoming a nuisance during such events, stating that measures will be explored to regulate their use in future bandobusts. “DJs have become a nuisance in all bandobusts, and we’re exploring ways to rein them in. I’ll update you soon,” Anand added.

The police commissioner’s update marked the end of another successful Ganesh Chaturthi celebration in Hyderabad, with effective management ensuring minimal disruption to public life.

Healthcare Lapses at Gandhi Hospital: Dozens of Newborns and Mothers Lose Lives in August

0

Hyderabad, September 18- 2024 – Alarming revelations have surfaced from Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad, where 48 newborn babies and 14 pregnant women tragically lost their lives in August. The fatalities are reportedly linked to medical negligence and the discontinuation of key nutrition programs, raising concerns about the state of healthcare in Telangana.

According to sources, the tragic deaths are attributed to a combination of factors, including inexperienced medical staff performing critical surgeries, inadequate nutrition for expectant mothers, and the suspension of essential welfare schemes like the KCR Kit and Nutrition Kit, which were previously offered under the former state government. These programs had been instrumental in providing support to pregnant women, particularly from low-income households.

Suppressed Information Unveiled

An independent investigation conducted by TeluguScribe has uncovered disturbing data about the deaths, which had reportedly been kept under wraps by the Telangana government for over 15 days. The findings expose systemic failures and raise questions about the handling of public healthcare across the region.

Critical Failures at Gandhi Hospital

Further investigations into Gandhi Hospital’s management have revealed several troubling issues that appear to have contributed to the rising death toll:

  • Unqualified Leadership: A retired junior assistant, Ramaiah, was appointed as the Rajiv Arogyasri Medical Coordinator, a role traditionally reserved for senior medical professionals, leading to mismanagement of resources.
  • Salary Delays: Outsourced staff and Family & Health Department employees have gone without salaries for over four months, impacting morale and operational efficiency.
  • Inexperienced Medical Staff: The transfer of experienced doctors to rural postings has left less experienced staff to manage high-risk cases, resulting in inadequate care and a surge in fatalities.
  • Suspension of Key Welfare Programs: The KCR Kit and Nutrition Kit, critical schemes for maternal and infant health, have not been operational for the past six months. The discontinuation of these programs has left vulnerable groups without much-needed nutrition and healthcare support.
  • Infertility Center Shutdown: The infertility center established under the previous government has not treated a single patient since the Congress party assumed power and has now been closed entirely.
  • Unjustified Dismissals: Data Entry Operators (DEOs), some with 15 years of service at Gandhi Medical College, were dismissed without clear justification, with the state citing budget constraints.

Impact on Public Healthcare

These revelations paint a bleak picture of the public healthcare system in Telangana. The absence of accountability, underqualified leadership, and the cessation of vital healthcare programs have left many questioning the current administration’s commitment to safeguarding the health of its citizens.

Families of the victims, alongside healthcare advocates, are demanding immediate intervention from both state and central authorities to address the systemic failures at Gandhi Hospital and restore faith in public healthcare services across Telangana.

The healthcare crisis at Gandhi Hospital has cast a long shadow on the state’s ability to manage its healthcare infrastructure, and the need for comprehensive reforms is now more urgent than ever.
