Kamareddy: Tension Mounts as HYDRAA-Driven Demolition Plans Move Forward Despite Public Backlash

0

Watch// KTR Accuses Government of Using HYDRAA to Extort Money from Builders

Kamareddy, October 17, 2024: Despite strong opposition from local residents, the government’s demolition plans under HYDRAA (Hyderabad Urban Agglomeration Area Development Authority) continue to proceed, sparking anxiety across several neighborhoods in Kamareddy. The public is calling on the government to adopt a more balanced approach, one that ensures the success of its urban development projects while safeguarding the interests of the affected residents.

In the affected areas, including Bathukamma Kunta, Ashok Nagar, Rukmini Kunta, Kalki Nagar, Devunipally, Housing Board Colony, and GR Colony, tension has been palpable as municipal authorities prepare to demolish multiple structures. For many residents, this threat has created a state of uncertainty and fear, as the potential loss of their homes and community spaces looms large.

Interestingly, the demolition notices were issued after BJP MLA Venkata Ramana Reddy filed a formal complaint against illegal constructions in these neighborhoods. Acting on this complaint, municipal authorities have now served notices to 256 property owners, warning them of the upcoming demolitions. These notices have not only targeted residential properties but have also been issued to several community halls and caste-based function halls, which are integral to the social and cultural fabric of these communities.

Many residents are questioning the logic behind the demolition drive, especially in light of the public outcry. With several key communal spaces at risk, there are concerns about the disruption to social events, religious gatherings, and cultural functions that regularly take place in these halls.

Opposition to the demolition drive has only intensified, but so far, the government has shown little sign of slowing down its efforts. Residents are appealing for a more constructive solution, urging authorities to find a way to implement their urban development initiatives without causing undue harm to the public. They argue that while the government’s objectives may be legitimate, the current approach is creating unnecessary hardship for thousands of people who stand to lose their homes, properties, and social spaces.

In a related development, BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has voiced his concerns regarding the use of HYDRAA. He remarked that “the HYDRAA is being used by the state government to collect money by threatening builders and businessmen.” KTR further stated that this matter would be brought to the public’s attention, signaling potential political repercussions for the state’s approach to the issue.

Local activists and community leaders have also stepped in, rallying support to resist the demolitions. There are growing calls for transparency in the decision-making process, with many demanding that municipal officials provide clearer justifications for the demolition of specific properties.

Despite the rising tension, the municipal officials remain determined to proceed with the demolitions, citing legal and regulatory obligations. However, with opposition gaining momentum, the government faces increasing pressure to reconsider its strategy and find a more amicable solution that balances urban development with public welfare

Hyderabad, October 17, 2024: A few Group I examination aspirants were detained by the police today as they attempted to reach Gandhi Bhavan, the State Congress headquarters, as part of their protest demanding the postponement of the Group I examination.

The candidates had organized the Chalo Gandhi Bhavan programme to meet with Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud and present their grievances. They aimed to request him to take up the matter with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, pressing for an exam postponement due to concerns over the fairness and preparedness for the test.

As the protestors made their way toward Gandhi Bhavan, police officials intervened and detained a few aspirants before they could reach the venue. However, following instructions from PCC President Goud, the police were ordered to release the arrested candidates. He has also scheduled a meeting with them later in the afternoon at Gandhi Bhavan to discuss their issues in detail.

During the meeting at Gandhi Bhavan, TPCC President Shri B. Mahesh Kumar Goud garu actively listened to the concerns and challenges raised by the Group I aspirants. He assured them that their issues would be addressed and that necessary steps would be taken to resolve them.

In the meantime, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari has convened a video conference with Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) Chairman Mahender Reddy, TSPSC Secretary Navin Mittal, and the district collectors of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, and Medchal. The conference is expected to address concerns surrounding the Group I examination.

Adding to the developments, BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has assured the protestors that he will also meet with the Group I Main Aspirants to hear their demands.

Supreme Court Upholds Validity of Section 6A in Citizenship Act

Landmark Judgment Secures Citizenship Cut-Off for Assam Immigrants

New Delhi: In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the constitutional validity of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, 1955, which grants citizenship to immigrants who entered Assam before January 1, 1966. This ruling comes amid ongoing debates about the impact of immigration on the demographic and cultural landscape of Assam.

The judgment was delivered by a five-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. Out of the five judges, four, including the Chief Justice, supported the majority view, while Justice JB Pardiwala dissented. The provision in question was introduced after the signing of the Assam Accord in 1985 between the Rajiv Gandhi-led central government and the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU). The Accord was a result of a six-year-long agitation against the influx of migrants from Bangladesh.

Under Clause 5 of the Assam Accord, January 1, 1966, serves as the cut-off date for detecting and removing “foreigners,” but it also allows for the regularisation of those who arrived up until March 24, 1971. Petitioners, including Assam Public Works and Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha, argued that setting a separate cut-off date for Assam is “discriminatory” and would impact the rights of indigenous Assamese people, particularly in preserving their culture under Article 29 of the Indian Constitution.

The petition, filed in 2012, contends that the exclusive application of Section 6A to Assam has resulted in a significant demographic shift, allegedly reducing the Assamese people to a minority in their own state. The petitioners further argue that this change has adversely affected the state’s economic and political stability and undermined the cultural survival and employment opportunities of the indigenous population.

On the other side, the Centre defended Section 6A, citing Article 11 of the Constitution, which grants Parliament the power to legislate on matters of citizenship. Other respondents, including the NGO Citizens for Justice and Peace, warned that striking down Section 6A would render a large number of current residents stateless, having enjoyed citizenship rights for over five decades.

The verdict is expected to clarify significant issues surrounding citizenship for immigrants and the rights of indigenous Assamese citizens.

Hyderabad, October 16: As the protests over the rescheduling of the Group 1 Mains exams and the Government Order (GO) 29 continued in Ashok Nagar, Hyderabad, social media has become a battleground for reactions, particularly targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The protests have seen a surge in support, with several aspirants raising their voices against what they believe to be an unjust examination process.

Amidst this growing unrest, social media users have taken to platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts, with a particular focus on Rahul Gandhi’s absence from the scene. A user named Venket Rao posted a photo of Rahul Gandhi’s previous visit to Ashok Nagar, captioning it: “@RahulGandhi Ji, Did you forget Ashok Nagar?” The post highlighted the aspirants’ disappointment with the Congress leader’s silence during the ongoing protests.

Another user, Giri Cherkupally, posted a critical comment on X, mocking the Congress leadership while praising Telangana BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) for his proactive support of the aspirants. Giri’s post read: “That’s the spirit of Telangana leadership… 👍. While @RahulGandhi, @kharge, and @priyankagandhi are busy fooling people in other states, our very own KTR Gaaru will still come to your rescue, despite the negativity you spread during the elections and your direct role in the BRS defeat.”

These posts underscore the divide between the Congress and BRS supporters, as well as the mounting pressure on political leaders to address the concerns of the protesting aspirants. KTR’s earlier promise to meet the students at Ashok Nagar or Telangana Bhavan has further fueled discussions online, with many praising his commitment to resolving the issue, while others question Congress’s involvement in addressing the grievances of Telangana’s youth.

The protests, which began over the fairness of the Group 1 Mains examination process and GO 29, continue to gain momentum as more students and supporters join the cause. All eyes are now on how both BRS and Congress will respond to the ongoing crisis, with KTR expected to meet the protesting aspirants in the coming days.

Hyderabad Court Defers Cash-for-Vote Case Against CM Revanth Reddy to November 14

0

Hyderabad, October 16: The Nampally Metropolitan Sessions Court has postponed the hearing in the cash-for-vote case against Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to November 14. The deferral occurred as the presiding judge was on leave, delaying the Wednesday session.

Revanth Reddy, along with other accused individuals, was scheduled to appear before the court on October 16. However, the hearing was originally set for September 24, where only one of the accused, Mathaiah Jerusalem, attended. Revanth Reddy, who was then a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), along with others, had failed to be present.

The case traces back to 2015, when Revanth Reddy was accused of attempting to bribe nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson. The alleged bribe, intended to secure Stephenson’s vote in favor of TDP candidate Vem Narender Reddy in the Legislative Council elections, was reportedly Rs. 5 crore, with Rs. 50 lakh given as an advance. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), in a sting operation, apprehended Revanth Reddy while he was offering the bribe.

In 2021, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) stepped in, filing a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The charges were based on video evidence and witness testimonies implicating Revanth Reddy in money laundering activities.

According to reports, the ED has collected substantial evidence linking Revanth Reddy to money laundering, specifically the use of proceeds amounting to Rs. 50 lakh. A report published by Hindustan Times suggests that ED officials have confirmed Revanth Reddy’s direct involvement in money laundering as outlined under Section 3 of the PMLA. They further indicated that the investigation had established his role in handling and utilizing proceeds from the alleged crime.

Moreover, during questioning by the ED in February 2019, Revanth Reddy had reportedly given false statements, claiming that he and his aide, Rudra Uday Simha, were forcibly taken away by police officers to a nearby apartment during a discussion. However, this claim was contradicted by his gunmen, who stated that no such incident occurred.

As the case moves forward, all eyes will be on the next hearing, scheduled for November 14, to see how the allegations against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy unfold.

Congress Government Committed to Minority Welfare, Rebuts False Claims: Shabbir Ali

0

Hyderabad, October 16: Congress senior leader and Advisor to the Telangana Government (SC, ST, OBC & Minorities), Mohammed Ali Shabbir, has firmly rejected accusations that the Congress government has neglected minority welfare in its recent initiatives. Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, alongside Hyderabad DCC President Mohammed Waliullah Sameer and other leaders, Shabbir Ali emphasized that the Revanth Reddy-led Congress administration is dedicated to ensuring justice and equal opportunities for minorities and marginalized communities.

Responding to claims of minority exclusion, Shabbir Ali clarified that the Congress government is actively working for the inclusion of all sections, especially minorities, in key welfare schemes. He specifically addressed concerns about the Government Orders (GO) Ms No. 33 and GO Ms No. 18. GO Ms No. 33, issued on October 11, pertains to the formation of Indiramma Committees at the Gram Panchayat and Municipal Ward levels as part of the Indiramma Indlu housing program, which aims to provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the construction of new houses for the homeless. Shabbir assured that minorities, particularly Muslim groups categorized under BC-E, are fully eligible to participate in these committees.

He further explained that each Gram Panchayat committee would include representatives from BC, SC, and ST communities, alongside two women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs), ensuring that minorities are not sidelined. At the municipal level, ward councillors or corporators would head similar committees. This structure, Shabbir said, guarantees representation of minorities at all administrative levels.

Addressing concerns about the comprehensive household survey mandated by GO Ms No. 18, Shabbir Ali highlighted that the survey is designed to assess the socio-economic and educational conditions of citizens across Telangana. With nearly 85% of Muslims classified under BC-E, they are automatically covered by the survey, while other minorities will be included under weaker sections. Shabbir reiterated that the Congress government’s commitment to secularism ensures that no community is excluded from its welfare measures.

Shabbir Ali also spoke on the Congress government’s efforts to improve educational opportunities for minorities. He announced the launch of the “Young India Integrated Residential Schools” project, inaugurated by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on October 12. The project, which will establish 28 schools in its first phase, is designed to accommodate 2,500 students per school, providing quality education for all communities, including minorities and differently-abled individuals. With a budget of Rs 5,000 crore, the schools will offer modern facilities like digital libraries and smart classrooms.

Taking a critical stance against the previous BRS government, Shabbir Ali accused the BRS of failing to deliver on its promise of 12% Muslim reservations. In contrast, the Congress government has taken steps to provide significant representation for minorities in various sectors. Shabbir pointed out that several Muslims have been appointed to key positions, including Additional Advocate General, Government Pleaders, and a member of the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC). He also highlighted the appointments of Nikhat Zareen and cricketer Mohammed Siraj to DSP posts, as part of the government’s efforts to encourage youth participation in sports.

Shabbir further criticized the BRS regime for its neglect of minority educational institutions, noting that under their tenure, over 80% of minority engineering and professional colleges were shut down. The Congress government has since added 2,200 seats in minority colleges and sanctioned the establishment of new law and pharmacy colleges. Additionally, recent recruitments have seen significant participation from minority candidates, with 720 minority appointments in the 10,006 DSC posts.

In response to questions about the Musi Riverfront project, Shabbir Ali dismissed BRS Working President K. Tarakarama Rao’s claims of a Rs 1.5 lakh crore investment as baseless. He emphasized that the Congress government would follow due procedures, including the publication of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for public consultation. Shabbir accused the BRS leadership of amassing personal wealth while ignoring the development of regions around the Musi River.

Shabbir also rejected allegations that Congress encouraged defections, countering that it was the BRS that initiated the culture of political defections. He recalled how, during his tenure as Leader of the Opposition, several Congress MLCs were made to defect to BRS, depriving him of his post.

Concluding his address, Shabbir Ali called for vigilance against false propaganda aimed at undermining minority welfare, stressing that the Congress government is committed to justice, equality, and the upliftment of all communities

MBT leader Amjadullah Khan also expressed strong disapproval, stating that the current Congress government is completely ignoring minorities, particularly Muslims. Today, during a press conference, Shabbir Ali objected to Amjadullah Khan’s repeated reference to Hindu-Muslim issues, pointing out that whenever there is any injustice or oppression against Muslims, Khan has consistently highlighted Shabbir Ali’s position on social media.

Watch// “Democracy Redefined: Vice President Dhankhar Warns of Preordained Election Outcomes in Politically Fortified Regions”

0

In several regions, political fortification has been established, rendering the concept of democracy meaningless. In these areas, the outcome of elections is predetermined long before they take place. These remarks were made by the Vice President of the country, Jagdeep Dhankhar, during a press conference held in Jaipur for chartered accountants. He stated that the demographic balance is rapidly changing in many parts of the world, which should serve as a moment of reflection for everyone.

While in Jaipur, Dhankhar noted that as challenges increase rapidly, failing to address them appropriately could lead to existential issues for all. He mentioned that there are several countries in the world that have lost their identity, and there is no need to name them. Today, the population balance in these countries has drastically shifted, with changes reaching as high as 100 percent. This phenomenon can be referred to as a demographic earthquake, and such an imbalance in population is no less significant than the effects of a nuclear bomb. He added that this list includes many developed countries where the demographic ratio is changing rapidly.

Divisive Remarks by People

Furthermore, Jagdeep Dhankhar stated, “Look at the culture of our country. Our vision of complete inclusivity and unity in diversity is beneficial for everyone. It is meant to uplift all. We welcome this entire culture, yet it is being misused. People are making divisive remarks.”

During his address, the Vice President did not specify any particular region but did mention that due to changes in demographic ratios, elections have become a matter of dishonesty. Many areas are being used for political fortification, resulting in a situation where democracy holds no meaning. There are also some areas in our country where the population is changing rapidly, and we must rise above caste, color, race, and creed. Achieving this requires collective efforts from everyone.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on Wednesday, with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha administering the oath of office.

The ceremony marked a historic moment for the region, with Omar Abdullah taking the lead of the newly formed Union Territory government. Alongside Omar, five other ministers were sworn in. Other key figures in the new Cabinet include Javed Rana from Mendhar in Rajouri, Javed Dar from Chamb in Jammu, and Satish Sharma.

Congress Opts for Outside Support

In a significant political move, the Congress party chose to stay out of the government. Hours before the ceremony, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief Karra announced that the party would provide outside support, expressing dissatisfaction over the continued Union Territory status of Jammu and Kashmir. Although the Congress won six seats in the recent Assembly elections, Karra confirmed that the party would not join the council of ministers due to concerns over the lack of statehood restoration.

High-Profile Attendance at Swearing-In

The event witnessed the attendance of several prominent leaders from the INDIA bloc, including Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Mallikarjun Kharge. Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, CPI leaders Prakash Karat and D Raja, DMK’s Kanimozhi, and NCP’s Supriya Sule were also present. Former J&K Chief Minister and PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti attended the event, adding to the political significance of the occasion.

Omar Abdullah’s Vision for Jammu and Kashmir

He emphasized that his government’s first priority would be addressing the needs and concerns of the people, stating, “We have the mandate from the people to resolve their problems, and that is what we aim to do from day one.”

No Rift with Congress, Says Omar Abdullah

Despite Congress’ decision to stay out of the government, Omar Abdullah denied any rift between the National Conference and the Congress. Speaking to PTI, he remarked, “There is no discord between NC and Congress. If there were, senior Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi would not have attended today’s ceremony.”

Congratulatory Messages from Political Leaders

Following the swearing-in ceremony of Omar Abdullah as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, several political leaders extended their best wishes.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Omar Abdullah on his swearing-in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed his best wishes, stating, “Wishing him the very best in his efforts to serve the people. The Centre will work closely with him and his team for J&K’s progress.”
