Telangana IPS Officer Naveen Kumar Bhatt Arrested in Property Dispute Saga

0

Hyderabad : In a startling turn of events, Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Naveen Kumar Bhatt from Telangana found himself behind bars on Wednesday, ensnared in a property dispute linked to the assets of retired IPS officer Bhanwar Lal’s wife.

Bhatt, serving as the Deputy Director of the Telangana State Police Academy, was apprehended by the Central Crime Station (CCS) police. The arrest follows last month’s filing of a complaint by Mani Lal, the wife of Bhanwar Lal, against Bhatt, his brother-in-law Orsu Sambasiva Rao, and Rao’s wife O. Roopa Dimple.

The trio faces charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) along with Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

While Sambasiva Rao and his wife were taken into custody on December 22, Bhatt, identified as accused number two, had been evading arrest until Wednesday.

The crux of the dispute revolves around Sambasiva Rao, a businessman, who continued occupying a house in posh Jubilee Hills that he had rented from Bhanwar Lal despite the expiration of the five-year rental agreement in 2019. Bhatt, allegedly in violation of the rental agreement, was residing in the same house. The complainant alleges that the accused concocted fake documents and forged signatures to wrongfully claim ownership.

In response, Bhatt’s family members counterclaimed, asserting that the arrest is part of a larger conspiracy against him. Bhatt’s son, addressing the media, labeled the case as a pre-planned effort to tarnish his father’s reputation, especially as he was on the brink of a promotion.

Expressing concern over the implications for ordinary citizens, Bhatt’s son questioned the fairness of the situation and emphasized that the matter had been a civil dispute pending in the High Court for the past three years. He called for a CB-CID inquiry into the arrest, alleging a premeditated plot against the IPS officer.

Kavitha Advocates Non-Payment of Electricity Bills Below 200 Units, Citing Congress Election Promise

0

Hyderabad : K. Kavitha, a prominent leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), urged households consuming less than 200 units of electricity to refrain from paying their bills starting January. She justified this call by pointing to the Congress party’s electoral commitment to provide free electricity.

Addressing the media in Nizamabad, Kavitha emphasized that citizens should hold off on paying their electricity bills, citing statements from Congress leaders supporting the promise of free electricity. She argued that applying for the scheme might lead to unnecessary delays, prompting her recommendation for non-payment.

Kavitha expressed concerns regarding the Congress government’s commitment to fulfilling recent election promises. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s statement about the need for a fresh application process for availing benefits raised doubts among the public.

Highlighting the significance of existing welfare programs, Kavitha urged the new government to continue the monthly pensions of Rs 2,000 for 44 lakh beneficiaries, with an enhanced amount of Rs 4,000 as pledged during the elections. She questioned the rationale behind forcing these beneficiaries to reapply and stand in queues.

Responding to the new government’s announcement that welfare schemes would be accessible to those with ration cards, the BRS MLC demanded the prompt issuance of ration cards to all eligible families before implementing the schemes.

Kavitha also raised concerns about the delay in disbursing Rythu Bandhu amounts to farmers’ bank accounts. Additionally, she criticized the absence of a column for unemployment allowance in the new government’s application forms, expressing dissatisfaction among unemployed youth. The Chief Minister’s recent announcement regarding the acceptance of applications for six guarantees from eligible individuals starting December 28 added fuel to the ongoing discussions.

BJP Faces Allegations of Rs 40,000-Crore Covid Procurement Scam in Karnataka; MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal Raises Serious Concerns

0

Bengaluru, December 27, 2023 – In a major blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka, senior MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal leveled serious accusations of irregularities amounting to Rs 40,000 crore in Covid-related procurement during the BJP’s rule in the state. The outspoken MLA also claimed that the Congress government attempted to conceal the alleged scam.

Known for his staunch Hindutva stance, Yatnal, a vocal critic of BJP Parliamentary Board member BS Yediyurappa, alleged that the former chief minister had authorized the procurement of face masks at an exorbitant cost, purchasing masks worth Rs 45 for Rs 485 during his tenure.

Yatnal raised concerns about the government’s decision to rent ten thousand beds in Bengaluru, suggesting that opting for new beds could have doubled the available capacity. He asserted, “If they had procured new beds instead, they would have got twice the number of beds.”

All pertinent documents related to the alleged irregularities, according to Yatnal, are in possession of the Public Accounts Committee. He revealed that he was approached to lead the committee during the Siddaramaiah government but claimed, “I told them that I would expose everything, and they did not appoint me.” Instead, the committee was headed by former minister C C Patil, as per Yatnal’s statement to the press.

These allegations form part of Yatnal’s ongoing criticism of Yediyurappa, who recently regained control of the state BJP unit, securing the appointment of his son, MLA BY Vijayendra, as its president. The dominance of Yediyurappa’s camp in the new party unit and the appointment of opposition leader R Ashok from the same faction have fueled tensions within the BJP.

The issue of corruption during the Covid pandemic was a central theme for the Congress ahead of the May polls. In response, a commission of inquiry, headed by Justice Michael D’Cunha, was established in August to investigate the alleged irregularities. The unfolding developments are likely to intensify political tensions in the state.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, at a program held in the state Secretariat on Wednesday, unveiled the logo, poster, and application forms associated with the six guarantees. Present at the event were Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers, and top government officials.

The six guarantees, namely Mahalakshmi, Rythu Bharosa, Gruha Jyothi, Indiramma Illu, Cheyutha, and Yuva Vikasam, form the core focus of the application process. The Chief Minister emphasized that applications would be accepted during the eight working days at gram sabhas in villages, towns, and municipal wards.

The Chief Minister, marking the occasion, also released an open letter to the people, expressing gratitude for electing a people’s government.

Highlighting the government’s achievements, Revanth Reddy claimed that history was made as two guarantees were fulfilled within 48 hours of assuming office. The government’s proactive approach reflects its commitment to promptly fulfilling its electoral promises.

Former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Kiran Kumar Reddy, who was part of the alumni group, expressed his amazement, stating, “I live close to this place. I knew it, but never knew that it is so big.” The alumni, on the occasion of the 100-year celebration of Hyderabad Public School, embarked on a journey to explore uncharted landmarks in the city.

Nawab Raunaq Khan, 60 years old and recently crowned the 9th Nizam of the Asaf Jahi Dynasty, unveiled the secrets of his creation—a man-made hill that stands as the city’s largest film facility, surpassing all other film shooting locations combined. Familiarly known as “Bhoot Bungla” in the film industry, this one-of-a-kind hill has been the backdrop for numerous mega-budget films, including the acclaimed ‘Rangasthalam.’

“I used moram (a type of soil) to make it strong. It took me ten years. I had to put this place to use to protect it from land sharks,” explained Nawab Raunaq Khan, emphasizing the effort invested in preserving this unique landscape.

The tea party organized on Wednesday, coinciding with the visit of the H.P.S. alumni, added a touch of historical significance. The venue, frequented by Raunaq’s ancestor Sultan-Ul-Mulk, son of Sir Viqar (builder of Falaknuma), holds connections to the heritage of the Nizams. The celebration aimed to mark not only the 100-year milestone of Hyderabad Public School but also to usher in Christmas and New Year.

His commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence has earned him recognition, including an honorary doctorate. As the talk of the town, Raunaq Khan’s H.I.G.H stands as a testament to the convergence of heritage, creativity, and a commitment to preserving Hyderabad’s unique charm.

Hyderabad : In the midst of the ongoing pandemic, the much-anticipated 46-day Numaish, officially known as the All India Industrial Exhibition, is scheduled to commence on January 1, 2024. With the specter of Covid looming, the fate of this grand annual trade fair remains uncertain.

The current Covid landscape in the state reveals 55 active cases, with Hyderabad, Numaish’s bustling venue, contributing 45 to this tally. Last year, the exhibition attracted a substantial footfall of almost 23 lakh visitors, but this year’s edition might witness a downturn due to pandemic concerns.

State Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha has called for a crucial meeting with health officials to assess the Covid-19 situation. Anticipating potential risks, the government is likely to issue Covid-appropriate guidelines for both Numaish organizers and attendees.

Traditionally inaugurating on the first day of the new year and extending until the second week of February, Numaish holds the distinction of being the largest industrial exhibition in the country. Traders from various corners of India converge to showcase their products, contributing to the event’s prominence. Last year saw approximately 1800 stalls in operation despite pandemic apprehensions.

Numaish, initially titled ‘Numaish Masnuaat-e-Mulki,’ commenced with 50 stalls at Public Gardens (Bagh-e-Amma) in 1938. In 1946, it found a permanent home at Exhibition Grounds. Apart from disruptions in 1947 and 1948 due to post-independence turmoil, Numaish has been a steadfast annual affair, playing a pivotal role in India’s industrial exhibition landscape. The first Numaish was inaugurated by the seventh ruler, Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan.

In a daring attempt to escape the holiday traffic nightmare in Himachal Pradesh, a tourist driving a Mahindra Thar boldly navigated the Chandra River in Lahaul and Spiti district. The video of this unconventional river crossing, aimed at beating the congested roads during the festive season, quickly went viral on social media.

As Christmas and New Year celebrations attract a surge of tourists to the picturesque hill station, the state grapples with severe traffic congestion. In response to the unconventional river stunt, Himachal Pradesh Police took swift action, issuing a challan to the SUV owner under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

“The district police have deployed personnel to ensure such offenses don’t recur,” stated Mayank Chaudhry, superintendent of police.

Notably, the water level of the Chandra River allowed the SUV to cross without significant difficulty, but the locals expressed discontent as the video circulated. In addition to the river escapade, drone surveillance was deployed in Lahaul and Spiti district to monitor the traffic situation. The footage revealed extensive lines of vehicles, rendering parking facilities scarce.

The chaotic scenes extended beyond traffic jams, with instances of risky car stunts causing a nuisance. A viral video captured a man driving with doors open, precariously hanging from one. The Kullu police took action, fining the individual ₹3,500 for endangering public safety amidst the holiday rush.

As the state authorities grapple with the surge in tourists, they are implementing measures to maintain order and safety on the roads during the festive season. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation.

Hyderabad Police Launch Manhunt for Former MLA’s Son in Hit-and-Run Case

0

Hyderabad Police are intensifying efforts to locate Raheel, son of former MLA Mohammed Shakil Aamir, following a hit-and-run incident involving a BMW car at Praja Bhavan, the official residence of Telangana Deputy Chief Minister. The incident occurred in the early hours of December 24, when the speeding car collided with barricades in the Begumpet area, causing damage to both the barricades and the front portion of the vehicle.

Initial reports indicated that one Ibraheem was identified as the driver and was charged with negligent driving. However, subsequent investigations revealed that Raheel was, in fact, behind the wheel at the time of the accident. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar disclosed that Raheel attempted to mislead the investigation by presenting an unrelated individual, Ibraheem, as the driver.

“An unrelated individual Ibraheem working in the former MLA’s house was presented as the driver,” stated the DCP.

Raheel, who is now a fugitive, faces charges not only for the hit-and-run but also for misleading the investigation. The police are actively searching for him, and officials warn of legal consequences for those aiding his escape and contributing to the misinformation.

This is not the first time Raheel has been involved in a controversy. In a previous incident last year, he was allegedly present in an SUV involved in a fatal collision with street vendors in Jubilee Hills. The incident resulted in the tragic death of a two-month-old child and injuries to four others. Raheel denied driving the car, attributing the incident to his cousin. However, the recent hit-and-run has prompted the police to reopen the investigation into last year’s incident.

The police are committed to unraveling the truth behind both incidents and ensuring accountability for those responsible. The latest developments raise concerns about the involvement of influential figures and underline the need for a thorough and impartial inquiry into such cases.
