Hyderabad: A tiger attack on a herd of sheep in Ippal Navegaon village, located in Asifabad mandal, on Sunday, has intensified fears in the region. This incident marks the third consecutive day of tiger-related attacks, with previous incidents claiming a life and injuring a farmer.
The tiger, reportedly stalking the area, targeted a herd grazing in the forests near the village. Witnesses claimed that the big cat attempted to kill a sheep but retreated into the nearby forest after the shepherd raised an alarm. Locals have urged the forest officials to track the tiger’s movements and take necessary measures to prevent further harm to humans and livestock.
This is part of a growing pattern of tiger attacks in the district, which began on Friday when a tiger killed 21-year-old farm laborer Morle Lakshmi in Easgaon village, Kagaznagar mandal. The very next day, the tiger struck again, injuring Rauthu Suresh, a farmer from Dubbagudem village, Sirpur (T) mandal.
The fear has spread across 50 villages in these two mandals, as the movement of tigers, particularly the one involved in the attacks, continues to pose a serious threat. Additionally, villagers in Penchikalpet and Bejjur mandals are living in constant fear due to the presence of another tiger, known as K8, further amplifying the sense of danger.
In response to the growing concerns, authorities have imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in 15 villages in Kagaznagar. Villagers are now prohibited from entering the forests and are advised not to engage in farm activities before 10 a.m. The district administration has issued guidelines urging the residents to follow the standard operating procedure to avoid tiger attacks.
The authorities are under mounting pressure to ensure the safety of both villagers and wildlife, with calls for immediate intervention and stricter measures to curb the increasing tiger threat.
