Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court, under the authority of Justice T. Vinod Kumar, has issued a stay on the Ph.D. admissions process at Kakatiya University. This decision, delivered on Wednesday, comes in response to a petition filed by Challa Amarender Reddy, a prospective Ph.D. candidate. The petition challenges the university’s decision to extend the 2022 merit list for the current year’s admissions.

Reddy’s petition argues that the use of the previous year’s merit list unfairly disadvantages new applicants, potentially preventing them from pursuing their doctoral studies at the university. Representing the petitioner, advocate Akhi Ennamshetti contended that a fresh notification should be issued to ensure a fair and transparent selection process, allowing all eligible candidates to participate.

Justice Vinod Kumar, while questioning the university’s practice, emphasized the potential exclusion of recent postgraduates. The court has directed Kakatiya University and the Telangana Higher Education Department to respond to the petition and has temporarily halted the admissions process, preventing the allocation of seats until further notice.
