Hyderabad, December 4, 2024: Google is set to establish its Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) in Hyderabad, marking a significant milestone in its partnership with the Telangana government. The agreement, aimed at advancing cybersecurity and digital innovation, makes Hyderabad home to India’s first GSEC and only the fifth globally, joining facilities in Dublin, Munich, Malaga, and Tokyo.
Hyderabad, already hosting Google’s largest campus outside the US at Gachibowli, continues to solidify its position as a global tech hub. The 7.3-acre site acquired in 2019 is under construction and expected to be completed by early 2026.
GSEC will serve as an international cybersecurity hub, focusing on cutting-edge research, AI-driven security solutions, and collaborative platforms for experts and researchers. It aims to boost employment, enhance cybersecurity capabilities, and foster skill development in India.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy hailed the partnership, emphasizing Hyderabad’s reputation as a global IT and innovation center. “This collaboration further establishes Hyderabad’s leadership in technology and digital safety,” he said.
Google’s Vice President for Engineering, Privacy, Safety, and Security, Royal Hansen, expressed excitement about the initiative, highlighting Hyderabad’s potential to become a global hub for safety engineering and cyber security.
Additionally, Google is exploring further initiatives, including partnering with Telangana to implement India’s first Google-powered Intelligent Traffic Management System.
Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu and Google representatives were present at the agreement signing, underscoring the state’s commitment to fostering innovation and growth in the IT sector.
