A Landmark Event to Honor the Role of Muezzins in South India

Hyderabad, August 26* – The inaugural South India Azan Competition will be held in Hyderabad on September 13, organized by MN Research and Educational Foundation. This competition aims to raise awareness about the respect, importance, and status of muezzins in society. The announcement was made by Mr. Muhammad Zahiruddin, Director of the Foundation, and Qari Muhammad Naseeruddin Manshawi during a press conference at the Media Plus Auditorium on August 26.

The competition, named after the late Mr. Mohammad Naziruddin, will take place on Friday, September 13, from 9 am to 9 pm at Masjid Hasan Balnagar, Bangalore Highway. Participants from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala are invited to showcase their skill in Tajweed and the melodic recitation of the Azan.

Submission Guidelines:
Candidates are required to send their Azan video via WhatsApp to +91-6302845202 between August 27 and September 6 (until midnight). The video must include a complete recording of the Azan, along with the participant’s name, age, mobile number, and location details. Participants must also carry their Aadhaar card or any other identity proof.

Competition Categories and Prizes:
The competition is divided into two groups:

  • Junior Group: Ages 5 to 15
  • Senior Group: Ages 16 to 35

Prizes:

  • 1st Place: ₹50,000, a certificate of appreciation, and a gold medal named after Hazrat Syedna Bilal Habshi (RA) and Hazrat Syedna Abdullah Ibne Maktoom (RA)
  • 2nd Place: ₹25,000, a certificate, and a silver medal
  • 3rd Place: ₹15,000, a certificate, and a bronze medal
  • Incentive Prizes: 10 prizes of ₹5,000 each
  • Selected Muezzins: ₹2,000 and a citation

A total of 25 muezzins will be selected from both the junior and senior groups. These finalists will be informed via phone. Accommodation and food will be provided free of cost to all participants, and candidates traveling from outside Hyderabad will be reimbursed for a sleeper class train ticket upon showing their ticket.

The first semi-final will select 13 candidates from each group for the final round. The judges’ decisions at each stage will be final.

The competition is being held under the patronage of Hafiz and Qari Maulana Muhammad Naseeruddin Manshawi. The event’s convenors are Muhammad Khalil Salahuddin (9866777742), Muhammad Zahiruddin (9866777743), and Muhammad Naeemuddin (9866777744), with Dr. Muhammad Naseeruddin Manshawi, Khatib Jama Masjid Alia Gun Foundry (9393072196), serving as the supervisor and guardian.

The Masjid Hasan, where the competition will take place, is known for its beautiful architecture and the provision of food for travelers on the Bangalore highway after Friday prayers. Under the MN Research and Educational Foundation, the mosque also provides education up to the junior college level, with students excelling in academics and other activities at the state level.
