New Delhi: The Election Commission of India announced on Saturday its decision to enhance the format of voter turnout data release, now including the absolute number of voters in each parliamentary constituency for the first five completed phases.
In a statement, the Commission stated, “The Commission feels duly strengthened by the Supreme Court‘s observations and verdict on the process of release of turnout data by the Election Commission of India. This brings upon the Commission, a higher responsibility to serve the cause of electoral democracy with undeterred resolution.”
The absolute number of voter turnout for the first five phases stands at 507,297,288.
The breakdown for each phase is as follows:
- First Phase: 110,052,103
- Second Phase: 105,830,572
- Third Phase: 113,234,676
- Fourth Phase: 122,469,319
- Fifth Phase: 55,710,618
The EC emphasized the rigor, transparency, and participation in the process of collecting and storing votes polled. It assured that the release of turnout data has been accurate, consistent, and compliant with election laws without any discrepancies.
The Commission highlighted the availability of voter turnout data on the Voter Turnout App since the commencement of polls on April 19, ensuring accessibility and transparency for all stakeholders.
It further outlined the continuous updating of data until the polling concludes, ensuring the best estimated ‘Close of Poll (COP)’ data by midnight on the poll day.
