In response to concerns over the emergence of new Covid-19 variants dubbed FLiRT, health experts have reassured the public that there is no need for panic or heightened caution. FLiRT variants, stemming from the lineage of the highly transmissible Omicron, notably include KP.1.1 and KP.2, named after specific mutations.
According to recent data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, KP.2 accounted for approximately 25% of newly sequenced cases in the country towards the end of April. Dr. Swapnil M. Dr. Dhiren Gupta, Senior Consultant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, highlighted that while FLiRT variants may be more transmissible, severe symptoms akin to pneumonia are less likely. However, individuals with severe comorbidities should exercise caution.
Recent studies suggest rapid spread of KP.2, prompting global attention. Dr. Ravindra Gupta from C.K. Birla Hospital, Gurugram, emphasized that while FLiRT variants exhibit no distinct symptoms from Omicron, there have been no reports of serious illness thus far. In a startling development today, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has urged for a thorough investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into accusations that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal received political funding from the banned organization ‘Sikhs For Justice’. Sources from Raj Niwas revealed that Kejriwal is allegedly linked to the group founded by wanted terrorist Gurpatwant Pannun.
Responding swiftly to the allegations, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. Senior AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj dismissed the call for an NIA probe as yet another conspiracy orchestrated by the BJP. “LG sir is an agent of the BJP… This is another big conspiracy against Chief Minister Kejriwal at the behest of the BJP,” Bhardwaj stated in a brief press release.

The video purportedly shows Pannun declaring that the Aam Aadmi Party received a substantial amount of $16 million in funding from Khalistani groups. The LG’s letter further claimed, “… Kejriwal purportedly promised to facilitate release of Devender Pal Bhullar, in return for substantial financial backing from Khalistani factions to Aam Aadmi Party…”

Nirmal /Adilabad :- In a fiery address at an election rally in Nirmal, under the Adilabad (ST) Lok Sabha constituency in Telangana, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Alleging that Modi harbors intentions to strip away reservation quotas, Gandhi positioned the ongoing general elections as a battle between contrasting ideologies.
According to Gandhi, the Congress stands as a guardian of the Constitution, committed to preserving people’s rights, while the BJP-RSS alliance seeks to dismantle it. “Narendra Modi ji is against reservation. He wants to take away reservations from you,” Gandhi asserted, painting the preservation of reservation quotas as the pivotal issue confronting the nation.
Furthermore, Gandhi highlighted the Congress party’s manifesto pledge to surpass the 50 per cent reservation limit if elected to power. He assured the audience that the Congress is steadfast in its commitment to expanding reservation quotas beyond the existing threshold.
Politics in the country and in the state are revolving around reservations. Even as the date of polling fast approaching, deliberations and volume of allegations on each other by the political leaders also enhanced. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister Telangana A Revanth Reddy and several other key political leaders have brought this topic to the fore at one or the other occasion.
One side is trying hard to explain that it does not intend to scrap the reservations provided by the constitution however the other side is convincing people that reservations to certain sections of society are in ultimate danger. These provisions, originally intended to do justice to the socio-economically backward and marginalized communities in the country.
Reservations to SC, ST and OBC communities are provided by the union government and it was mentioned in the Article 15 and 16 of the constitution. The 1st amendment was made in the constitution and this was added to the constitution. Basically, the reservations were recommended because there has been a historical injustice to certain classes of the society in India. However, since those classes were associated with certain castes, it has become a caste reservation of late.
Delhi to Hyderabad, Mumbai to Bengal, Uttar Pradesh to Rajasthan, the topic of reservations is on the forefront of political discourse of all the parties. The discourse is equally heard in Karnataka and Tamilnadu besides Maharashtra and Assam.
To understand better, we need to touch upon few basic details of the Indian Constitution with respect to reservations.
Mention of Reservations in Constitution:
*Reservations are part of the articles mentioned under Fundamental Rights of the Indian Constitution.
* These are placed in Part-III of the Constitution from Article 12-35.
* Fundamental rights are not limitless and also not sacred- there are some restrictions
* These rights impact legislative and executive activities.
* Fundamental Rights are Magna Carta-.
* Right to Equality are discussed in Article 14 to 18.
* Article 15 (4) – If government provides reservations to SC/ST communities in educational institutions- it is not against equality. (This was added in the constitution through the 1st Constitutional Amendment in 1951)
* Article 15 (5) – Providing reservations to OBC communities in Higher Learning Centres is not against equality. (Included through the 93rd Constitutional Amendment in 2005)
* Consequently, Parliament mad a law in the year 2006 to implement 15 (5).
* A court case was filed against Article 15(5)- Supreme Court stayed the implementation. Later, in the year 2008, Supreme Court termed it valid. (Ashok Kumar Thakur Vs Government of India Case)
* Article 16 (3) – Governments have right to provide local reservations in employment.
* Article 16 (4) – Providing reservations to SC-ST communities in employment.
* Article 16 (4) (a) – Reservations for SC – ST in Promotions.

This is the brief background of the reservations with reference to the constitutional provisions. Based on these guidelines and articles, the reservations have been implemented in education, employment and promotions for a long time. Earlier, it was implemented for 10 years, later got extended in wake of the situation of the communities associated.
India is now at the verge of selecting its new Members of Parliament for the next term and to form a new government, the topic of reservations is once again has become talk of the town. Several doubts are raised over the existence of these reservations by the opposition leaders. Undoubtedly, many of the ruling party functionaries have expressed their dislike and dismay for the presence of reservations and they have openly said that they were against the reservations and this has to end.
It is note-worthy that people have absorbed this narrative very well and weighing their decision based on it. Ultimately, the backward, marginalized communities are seeking justice and need justice. Any party, trying to curtail their constitutional and basic human rights, will have to perish.

Telangana residents may soon find respite from the scorching temperatures as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts light to moderate rains in parts of the state starting May 6. A press release issued by IMD warns of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) expected at isolated places in several districts.
The districts likely to experience these weather phenomena include Nizamabad, Rajanna Sirsilla, Jayashankar-Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajigiri, Medak, and Nagarkurnool.
For Hyderabad specifically, a partly cloudy sky is forecasted for the next 48 hours. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 43°C, while the minimum temperature may dip to 27°C, according to the release.

Tragic news emerged from Tamil Nadu as the charred remains of K.P.K. Jeyakumar Dhanasingh, the Tirunelveli East district President of the Congress, were discovered on Saturday. The 60-year-old leader’s body was recovered from his farmland at Karaichuthupudur near Thisayvanvilai in Tirunelveli district.
The grim discovery followed a missing complaint filed by Jeyakumar’s son, Karuthiah Jefin, with the Uvari police station on May 3, after his father went missing on May 2. A thorough search conducted by the police led to the recovery of Jeyakumar’s body from his farmland adjacent to his residence. Shockingly, the body was found with hands and legs bound with electric cables, and it was charred beyond recognition.
Earlier, on April 30, Jeyakumar had lodged a complaint with Tirunelveli SP, N. Silambarasan, alleging death threats following a financial dispute. He had also expressed concerns about suspicious activities around his home during the night.
In his complaint, Jeyakumar named a former Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President, a sitting MLA from Tirunelveli district, and a youth wing office-bearer of the Congress, who is the son of a late Congress leader who was disqualified as an MLA.
In response to this heinous crime, five special teams have been assembled to investigate the case, shedding light on the gravity of the situation and the urgency to seek justice for the deceased Congress leader.
