Deadly Blaze Engulfs Wedding Celebration in Northern Iraq: Over 100 Lives Lost

0

In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded in the northern Iraqi town of Hamdaniyah, a joyful wedding celebration turned into a nightmarish tragedy. A devastating fire broke out at an event hall, claiming the lives of at least 113 people, while leaving more than 150 others with injuries. The shocking incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, has left the nation in mourning.

The grim death toll of 113 was confirmed by Nineveh Deputy Governor Hassan al-Allaq, who conveyed the devastating news to Reuters news agency. As the details continue to emerge, the nation grapples with the sheer scale of this catastrophe.

The event hall, where the ill-fated celebration took place, was constructed using prefabricated panels. Civil defense authorities have pointed out that these panels were highly flammable and in violation of safety standards, underscoring the dire lack of safety measures in place. Furthermore, the combustion of these panels released toxic gases, including harmful plastics, further exacerbating the perilous situation.

Tragically, the fire not only claimed lives but also caused parts of the ceiling to collapse. Preliminary information suggests that fireworks may have been a contributing factor in the outbreak of the devastating blaze.

In response to this horrific tragedy, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani issued a brief statement. He called upon the ministers of health and the interior to urgently mobilize all available rescue efforts to aid the victims and provide much-needed support to the affected families.

This heartbreaking incident sheds light on the alarming state of safety standards within Iraq’s construction and transport sectors. Frequently, regulations are disregarded, leading to catastrophic consequences. The country, already grappling with the aftermath of decades of conflict and crumbling infrastructure, has sadly become a regular backdrop for fatal fires and accidents.

As the nation mourns the loss of so many lives, questions about safety, accountability, and the urgent need for reforms in Iraq’s safety regulations loom large.

Lokesh Seeks Anticipatory Bail in Amaravati Inner Ring Road Scam: TDP General Secretary’s Legal Move

0

Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) national general secretary, Nara Lokesh, has taken legal action by applying for anticipatory bail in the Andhra Pradesh High Court concerning the ongoing Amaravati inner ring road alignment scandal.

Lokesh, identified as Accused No. 14 in the case, had his legal team file the anticipatory bail petition on his behalf this Wednesday, citing his absence from the state as he is currently in New Delhi.

The scandal revolves around alleged large-scale irregularities during the previous TDP government’s tenure, under the guise of constructing the inner ring road in the proposed capital city of Amaravati. The Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) initiated an inquiry based on a complaint from YSR Congress Party MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy. The CID subsequently filed a memorandum in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court at Vijayawada, listing TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu as Accused No. 1, former minister P. Narayana as Accused No. 2, and Nara Lokesh as Accused No. 14.

According to the CID’s allegations, Lokesh is suspected of attempting to manipulate the inner ring road’s alignment and playing a pivotal role in the scandal, particularly during his father Chandrababu Naidu’s tenure as Chief Minister, with the purported aim of securing land for Heritage Foods, a company owned by his family. In addition to Lokesh, real estate figures Lingamaneni Ramesh and Rajasekhar, as well as Heritage Foods, were also named as accused parties in the case.

While P. Narayana has already secured anticipatory bail in connection with the case, Lokesh has now turned to the High Court, seeking similar protection from potential arrest.

Google’s Journey from “BackRub” to a Global Tech Giant: A Look Back on 25 Years of Innovation

In commemoration of its 25th anniversary, Google has unveiled a captivating Doodle that traces the evolution of the company’s iconic logos throughout the years. Founded in September 1998 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page, Google has fundamentally reshaped the way we explore and access information on the internet.

This special Doodle is set to grace screens across the globe, with the notable exceptions being regions such as China and Russia. In a reflective post, Google takes a nostalgic journey, recounting the fateful meeting of Sergey Brin and Larry Page during their time in Stanford University’s computer science program in the late ’90s. Their shared vision of enhancing internet accessibility set them on a transformative path.

The duo commenced their work on this vision, crafting a prototype for an improved search engine right from their dormitory. Eventually, they relocated operations to a rented garage in Menlo Park, California, where Google Inc. took shape. The post also showcases Google’s anniversary logos over the years, with the latest iteration featuring the number ’25’ replacing the two ‘o’s.

Originally dubbed as ‘BackRub,’ the search engine underwent a name change to ‘Google,’ inspired by the mathematical term ‘googol,’ signifying one followed by 100 zeroes. In 1998, Larry Page crafted a computerized rendition of the Google logo using ‘GIMP,’ a free graphics software, and added an exclamation mark, a playful nod to ‘Yahoo!’

Kapil Sibal’s Sharp Rebuke: BJP, the “Camel in the Tent,” Faces AIADMK’s Exit

0

New Delhi : In the wake of the AIADMK’s withdrawal from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal took a sharp jab at the BJP, stating that another ally has departed, leaving the remaining ones in the NDA as “opportunistic alliances with no ideological coherence.”

The AIADMK formally terminated its four-year partnership with the BJP and declared its intention to lead a separate front for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This significant decision was reached during a high-level meeting held at the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai, chaired by party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami.

In a statement posted on his platform, Sibal remarked, “AIADMK exits NDA. Yet another ally leaves them! Those still with them are opportunistic alliances with no ideological glue: Pawar & Shinde in Maharashtra & alliances in the North East.” Drawing an analogy, he likened the BJP to a “camel in the tent.”

Kapil Sibal, a former Union minister during the UPA I and II administrations, parted ways with the Congress in May of the previous year. He subsequently secured a seat in the Rajya Sabha as an Independent member with the support of the Samajwadi Party.

Sibal has since launched a non-electoral platform named ‘Insaaf,’ aimed at combatting injustice.

KTR Demands Apology from PM Modi for Disrespecting Telangana

Watch// KTR Lambasts PM Modi’s Negative Rhetoric on Telangana: Demands Respect for State’s Legacy

Hyderabad : KT Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharatiya Rashtriya Samithi (BRS), launched a scathing critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of repeatedly insulting the formation of Telangana State and neglecting the critical issue of sharing Krishna river waters. He questioned the Prime Minister’s intentions and demanded a formal apology for his remarks that he found disrespectful to the people of Telangana.

In a press conference held at Telangana Bhavan, Rama Rao did not mince words, describing Modi as the “most inefficient, incompetent, inept, and quite possibly the most corrupt Prime Minister of independent India.” He alleged that the Prime Minister had failed to fulfill his promises to the nation and Telangana alike.

“Why does Prime Minister Modi keep denigrating the formation and existence of Telangana repeatedly? Telangana is not only a well-recognized but also a highly esteemed place, and we insist that it should be treated as such,” he declared.

Rama Rao specifically criticized Modi’s recent comments in the new Parliament building, where the Prime Minister downplayed Telangana’s historical significance, its struggle for statehood, and the sacrifices made during the movement. He demanded an explanation from Modi regarding why the BJP leadership continues to criticize Telangana.

Furthermore, Rama Rao expressed confidence that the BJP would suffer a resounding defeat in the upcoming Assembly and Parliament elections in the State, burying any hope of resurgence in the near future.

Addressing the critical issue of Krishna River water sharing, Rama Rao asserted that Telangana deserved a fair allocation of 575 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of Krishna river waters. He criticized the Modi government for its failure to resolve the issue in the nine years since the formation of the State, particularly impacting the erstwhile districts of Rangareddy, Mahabubnagar, and Nalgonda.

Rama Rao went on to claim that Prime Minister Modi had no moral right to visit Mahabubnagar district, scheduled for October 1, given the unresolved water-sharing dispute.

He also highlighted the BJP government’s refusal to grant national project status to critical irrigation schemes in Telangana, such as the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme and the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, despite repeated requests from the State government. Rama Rao contrasted this with the BJP’s support for projects in other states, like the Polavaram project in Andhra Pradesh and Upper Bhadra in Karnataka, which were given national project status.
