Hyderabad Police Ensures Safety for Pakistani Cricket Team Amidst Immersion Duties

0

Hyderabad : Ensuring the security of an international cricket team visiting India is a challenging endeavor, and executing it seamlessly is a source of pride for security personnel across the nation. The responsibility becomes even more significant when it involves safeguarding the visiting Pakistani cricket team, currently in India for the upcoming World Cup.

The Pakistani cricket team, which arrived in Hyderabad on Thursday, is receiving the highest level of security from the Hyderabad police, despite officers having to juggle their responsibilities with the ongoing festivities associated with the Ganesh idol immersion, coinciding with the World Cup warm-up matches.

Security personnel in Hyderabad are putting in extra hours to ensure a trouble-free stay for the Pakistan cricket team, marking their return to India after a seven-year hiatus. However, due to these commitments, Pakistan’s opening warm-up match on Friday will be played behind closed doors as the police cannot guarantee sufficient security for spectators.

The squad made its way to the stadium on Thursday, with a convoy of six police vehicles accompanying them. The team buses of Pakistan and New Zealand left the stadium in tandem.

Stringent security measures are also being implemented at the team hotel to leave no room for chance.

While the warm-up match on Friday will require approximately 200 police personnel at the stadium, this number is expected to increase to 800 when spectators return for the subsequent warm-up match on October 3.

“Adequate security measures have been put in place, and the team is fully satisfied with the security arrangements, both at the stadium and in the hotel,” stated a source from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

In an unexpected twist due to last-minute scheduling changes by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Hyderabad will now host consecutive games on October 9 and 10, adding additional strain to the already stretched police resources.

The Babar Azam-led Pakistan team received a warm welcome at the Hyderabad airport on Wednesday before being safely escorted to their city-center hotel amid tight security measures. The team is slated to stay in Hyderabad for nearly two weeks.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge criticizes BJP’s women’s reservation bill commitment and highlights achievements during Chhattisgarh government convention.

Raipur : Speaking at a convention of the Chhattisgarh government in Sumabhata village, Balodabazar-Bhatapara district, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), describing their promise to enact the women’s reservation bill as an ’empty promise’ or ‘jumla.’ Kharge also advocated for the inclusion of an Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota within the bill and called for a caste census.

Kharge asserted that the BJP’s commitment to the women’s reservation bill, which allocates 33 percent of seats in the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies for women, is misleading. He pointed out that the bill is not set to be implemented until 2034, accusing the BJP of using it as a mere political ploy to garner votes.

During his address at the ‘Krishak-sah-Shramik Sammelan’ (farmers-cum-labourers convention) organized by the Chhattisgarh government, Kharge highlighted the Congress party’s achievements during its five-year tenure in the state. He emphasized that the BJP had failed to accomplish in 15 years what the Congress had achieved in just five years of governance.

Furthermore, Kharge accused the BJP of attempting to undermine the Constitution and urged the public to support the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi in their efforts to safeguard the Constitution and uphold democracy.

Kharge also pointed out the historical context of women’s reservation, mentioning that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had introduced the 73rd and 74th amendments, providing reservations for women in panchayat bodies. He recalled that when Rajiv Gandhi introduced the 33 percent reservation bill in Parliament, the BJP had opposed it. Although it passed in one house, it was rejected in the other due to BJP’s opposition.

In conclusion, Kharge’s address centered on criticizing the BJP’s commitment to the women’s reservation bill, advocating for an OBC quota within it, and calling for a caste census, while also highlighting the Congress party’s achievements in Chhattisgarh.

Srinagar : Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Vice President of the National Conference (NC), Omar Abdullah, has leveled allegations against the BJP, claiming that the party is avoiding elections in the state due to apprehensions of facing the wrath of voters.

In a media statement addressing the potential postponement of Panchayat and urban bodies elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah asserted that the BJP appears reluctant to conduct these polls because they anticipate severe electoral consequences.

This sentiment was echoed by former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, who made a similar statement yesterday.

The criticism directed towards the BJP by both the NC and the PDP comes in the wake of media reports suggesting that security forces have alerted the central government to Pakistan’s ISI planning targeted killings of political activists during the Panchayat and urban body elections.

Recent attacks on security forces in locations like Kulgam, Kokernag, and Srinagar City have further intensified the reconsideration of holding these elections, which were originally scheduled for November-December of this year.

Telangana High Court Upholds Group I Examination Reconduct

Telangana’s Appeal: Balancing Concerns Amidst Baseless Apprehensions

Hyderabad: In a significant ruling, the division bench of the Telangana High Court, comprising Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice J Anil Kumar, has upheld the decision to reconduct the Group I examination. The court’s decision comes after confirming the single judge’s order, which had initially directed the reconducting of the examination.

The State had filed an appeal against the order, arguing that the baseless apprehensions of a few petitioners should not disadvantage the aspirations of lakhs of candidates. The State contended that the absence of biometrics did not establish any chance of impersonation or malpractices, pointing out that the OMR sheets had barcodes to ensure proper verification of candidates’ credentials.

However, after hearing arguments from both sides, the court concluded that the process and procedure prescribed in the notification and web note must be adhered to without violation. Consequently, the bench dismissed the appeal filed by the State government.

Illegal Detention by NIA

Another notable decision came from the division bench consisting of Justice K Lakshman and Justice K Sujana, which declared the detention of Dubashi Devender by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) as illegal. The court emphasized that the NIA, as a premier investigation agency, must follow legal procedures.

The petitioner had claimed that her husband was unlawfully detained by the NIA while he was attending examinations at a government college in Siddipet. She expressed concerns about his safety and the well-being of their six-month-old child.

The NIA, represented by Deputy Solicitor General of India Gadi Praveen Kumar, asserted that the detenue was taken into custody legally for his involvement in a 2019 case related to the banned CPI (Maoist) Party. However, the court noted several discrepancies and lacunas in the arrest procedure, including the failure to inform the family, provide proof of serving a notice, and explain the two-year delay in arresting the detenue after registering the crime.

As a result, the bench ruled the detention illegal and ordered his release. The NIA was granted the liberty to conduct the investigation strictly in accordance with the law while disposing of the case.
