“Election Commission Adjusts Rajasthan Assembly Poll Date to November 25”

0

“Previously, the elections were set for November 23.”

New Delhi : The Election Commission of India has modified the dates for the Rajasthan assembly elections, shifting them from November 23 to November 25.

In an official notification, the election panel stated that it had received requests from various political parties and social organizations to amend the poll schedule. The change was made to accommodate the substantial number of weddings and social engagements slated for November 23, which could have inconvenienced a significant portion of the population.

Prominent political figures from both major parties have expressed their approval of the decision. BJP MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, who is contesting the assembly election from Jhotwara in Jaipur, welcomed the decision, stating, “This is a good thing. The Election Commission wants more voting to happen…This is a good decision…I welcome it.”

Amrita Dhawan, Rajasthan’s Congress co-incharge, commended the Election Commission’s decision, emphasizing that the postponement of the election date, which coincided with the Ekadashi festival, would increase voter turnout. She remarked, “It is good that the Election Commission has taken everything into consideration. Ekadashi is a big festival…The voting percentage will also be affected now that the date has been postponed & voters will come out (to cast their vote)…Congress will win.”

Rajasthan comprises 200 assembly constituencies, and the term of the state assembly is set to expire on January 14 next year. The Election Commission has previously announced the election schedules for other states, including Madhya Pradesh (November 17), Chhattisgarh (November 7 and 17), Mizoram (November 7), and Telangana (November 30). Vote counting will take place on December 3. These state elections are viewed as a significant precursor to the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

The Rajasthan election is primarily a head-to-head contest between the BJP and Congress, both vying for the state’s 25 Lok Sabha seats.

At present, the Congress party, led by Ashok Gehlot, governs Rajasthan. In the previous election, the Congress emerged as the single largest party, securing 100 seats. With the support of the Bahujan Samaj Party and independent MLAs, it formed the government. The BJP, on the other hand, secured 73 seats, continuing the trend of the incumbent party not retaining power. In the 2013 assembly election, the BJP had won 163 seats.

Hyderabad : In their unwavering commitment to ensuring the integrity and peace of the upcoming elections, the Hyderabad city police have intensified their citywide crackdown on illicit money, drugs, alcohol, and other inducements. Since the announcement of the poll schedule by the Election Commission of India on Monday, the police have confiscated a substantial haul.

The seizures include 7.706 kg of gold valued at Rs 4.2 crore, 11.700 kg of silver worth Rs 8.77 lakh, Rs 5.1 crore in cash, and 110 litres of liquor. Additionally, the police have apprehended 2 kg of ganja, 23 mobile phones, and 43 quintals of PDS rice.

The local police, flying squad teams, commissioner’s task force, and various other units are maintaining round-the-clock vigilance and monitoring. They have urged all citizens to actively participate and support their efforts by promptly reporting any suspicious activities in their respective localities.

City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand conducted a video conference on Wednesday to assess preparedness and provide essential guidelines to staff officers. He emphasized four critical aspects that require immediate attention: adherence to established procedures, timely reporting, vigilant monitoring, and comprehensive training and briefings for the police force. These aspects are deemed of paramount importance until the conclusion of the polls.

Anand issued directives to all Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), and nodal ACPs to hold meetings with political parties at their respective levels. He instructed them to activate round-the-clock election cells within their offices and coordinate planning with officers from neighboring commissionerates to ensure effective security at polling stations that partially fall under their jurisdiction.

The commissioner urged all officers to take resolute action against instances of illicit cash, liquor, narcotics, and other prohibited inducements. He stressed the need to prevent political parties from intersecting during campaigns, factor route planning and permission issuance, and meticulously allocate time slots to avoid untoward incidents.

Furthermore, all licensed firearms must be surrendered, and no new licenses should be issued until after the conclusion of the polls. Static surveillance teams (SST) are set to commence operations, and flying squads have been instructed to intensify their checks. The number of integrated inter-commissionerate checkposts will increase from 11 to 18.

The meeting also discussed executing non-bailable warrants (NBWs), monitoring social media platforms, conducting surveillance on hawala operators, binding over troublemakers, and addressing other operational matters.

Qasim Syed’s Perspective: The Unprecedented Hamas Attack on Israel – An Analysis

When Gaza’s streets resounded with the launch of thousands of rockets towards Israel in the morning hours of the week, scores of armed Palestinian fighters successfully breached the heavily fortified border between Gaza and Israel. They used bulldozers to bring down walls, cut through fences, and crossed into Israel by gliding over the sea with a pier glider.

The most astonishing aspect is that despite the immense power of Israel, the country’s national intelligence agency Shin Bet, the foreign intelligence agency Mossad, and the formidable Israeli military, no one saw this attack coming.

In this assault, over 1,100 Israeli civilians and soldiers have lost their lives, and more than 1,800 have been injured. More than 150 are reported missing, including several senior military officers, major generals, and civilians. In response to Israel’s retaliatory strikes, thousands of Palestinians have become martyrs, and even more have been wounded. Hundreds of thousands of homes in Israel have been demolished. These numbers are approximate because the first casualty of war is always the truth.

Such a large-scale and harmonized attack against Israel, involving the use of thousands of rockets, has shaken the Israeli authorities to their core. It has targeted defense agencies, military personnel, and civilians, causing devastation that will make Israel and its ally, the United States, think about how they can obliterate many strongholds.

Hamas’ extraordinary military operation has hit below the belt for Israel. It has rained thousands of rockets, aimed at defense establishments, and pounded soldiers and civilians alike. It has created havoc to make Israel and its ally, the United States, ponder how they can demolish many formidable layers. Even now, there are reports of fierce fighting in several Israeli cities. This suggests that Hamas has executed an unusual level of military operation.

The real concern for Israel is how to prevent other countries from joining this conflict at Hamas’s request and how to prevent the fighting from spreading to the western front, where Hezbollah is equipped with the latest weapons from Iran, and Iran itself is a sanctuary for Hezbollah.

Currently, the world is divided into two factions; some stand with Israel, including India, while others, including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Iran, side with Hamas. The move to put the Palestinian cause aside and establish diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv has been foiled. The Saudi statement hints at this. In reality, this is the last and decisive battle for the Palestinians, as Hamas said, “Enough is enough.” Israel has announced the seizure of Gaza and its destruction, and it is prepared on various fronts. The entire world, except the United States and the Soviet Union, has abandoned the Afghans. Has Allah made a decision for Israel?

BJP Contemplates Reinstating Suspended MLA Raja Singh for Upcoming Telangana Elections

0

Hyderabad : Amid the recent announcement of the Telangana Assembly election schedule, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sources have revealed that the suspension of Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh is likely to be revoked in the near future.

Raja Singh, a controversial MLA, was suspended after his arrest in August last year, following blasphemous statements against Prophet Muhammad. These statements were made in response to the police permitting comedian Munawar Farooqui to perform a show in the city in August 2022. Subsequently, Raja Singh was arrested under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PD Act), facing charges under sections 153A, 295, and 505 of the Indian Penal Code.

A faction of BJP leaders has been urging the party to lift his suspension and nominate him as the candidate from the Goshamahal Assembly constituency once more. Raja Singh has previously won this seat in two consecutive elections.

Prominent party leaders, including State President G. Kishan Reddy and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, are reportedly actively considering the reinstatement of Raja Singh, and they plan to discuss this matter with senior party leaders in Delhi. Sources suggest that the state leadership has been directed to make a decision in this regard.

During a meeting on October 11, attended by state leaders and party election coordinators, there was a strong inclination towards revoking Raja Singh’s suspension. An official announcement on this matter is expected shortly.

In response to these developments, Raja Singh has expressed confidence that his suspension will be revoked, and he will be included in the BJP’s first list of candidates, which is anticipated to be released on October 15.

BRS Worker Faces Legal Action for Brutal Assault Captured in Viral Video

Hyderabad : A BRS worker is now facing legal consequences after a viral video exposed his violent assault on a man, inflicting severe bleeding injuries. Shockingly, the assailant, identified as Bhaskar, continued his relentless assault while others in the vicinity joined in, subjecting the victim to further physical harm.

Taking immediate action, the police initiated a suo motu case under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), categorizing the incident as ‘attempt to murder.’ An intensive investigation is now underway to unearth the truth behind this disturbing incident.

According to the authorities, the attack transpired in the vicinity of Yousufguda, leading to the detention of Bhaskar and two additional individuals involved in the incident.

Senior Congress Leader and Former FM Urges Central Govt to Address Manipur and Sikkim Crises

0

New Delhi : Two small northeastern states, Manipur and Sikkim, find themselves in the throes of disaster, both desperately seeking assistance in their time of need. Yet, the cries for help from these regions appear to have fallen on deaf ears within the central government.

In this trying period, neither the Hon’ble Prime Minister nor the Hon’ble Home Minister has taken the time to visit Sikkim and extend solace and support to its beleaguered citizens.

Adding to the distress, the financial aid offered to Sikkim, a mere Rs. 44 crore, has been seen as a source of humiliation rather than genuine assistance.

A senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister voiced these concerns, questioning when the central government would recognize its responsibility as a government that serves all states equally.

The urgent need for attention and support in these northeastern states underscores the importance of swift and equitable assistance during times of crisis.
