YSR Telangana Party to Contest All 119 Seats in Upcoming Assembly Election

0

Hyderabad : In a significant announcement, YS Sharmila, the leader of the YSR Telangana Party, confirmed on Thursday that her party will field candidates in all 119 constituencies in the upcoming Assembly election. This decision marks the end of speculation regarding a potential alliance with the Congress to consolidate votes against the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi.

Sharmila expressed that she had waited for four months for a potential alliance with the Congress and stated, “Now no one can blame us for splitting the anti-KCR (Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao) vote. We tried our best.” She also revealed her intention to contest from the Palair constituency and potentially from another location.

Furthermore, Sharmila, who is the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, shared that there has been a demand for her mother, YS Vijayalakshmi, and her husband, Anil Kumar, to contest in the election. She emphasized that if necessary, they are prepared to participate. She noted her mother’s commitment to support her, which was made when Sharmila launched her party.

Notably, Sharmila had previously conveyed that a “final decision” regarding an alliance with the Congress would be made by the end of September. The party’s latest statement confirms that, in the absence of an alliance, they will contest all 119 constituencies.

Sharmila had met with Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the previous month, characterizing the discussions as “constructive” and issuing a warning to KCR about the impending electoral challenge.

According to party sources, Gandhi will be in Mizoram on October 15 and 16. Following this, he will attend the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting on October 17, after which he will depart for Telangana in the evening.

In Telangana, Gandhi will actively participate in the Congress party’s bus yatra program from October 18 to 20. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is also expected to join the bus yatra on October 18.

Operation Hast: Karnataka Deputy CM Reveals 42 Leaders Eager to Join Congress

0

Bengaluru: Karnataka’s ruling Congress party is aggressively advancing Operation Hast, with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announcing that 42 leaders are ready to join the party in the state.

At a media briefing alongside Ramappa Lamani, a prominent BJP leader from northern Karnataka who recently switched to the Congress in Bengaluru, Shivakumar disclosed that former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and former Deputy CM Laxman Savadi have presented an extensive list of leaders from both southern and northern Karnataka who express a desire to join the Congress.

“I have the list but would not disclose the names,” he asserted. “A group of BJP leaders is engaging with Congress legislators, and I am updated on the developments. However, I won’t divulge any specific details to the media,” Shivakumar maintained. The ongoing process involves persuading leaders from other parties after obtaining the approval of local leaders. Those opposing alliances with opposing parties are switching allegiances, thus strengthening the party’s presence both at the state and national levels, he added.

“Some have speculated that Karnataka will see another election in 2024. I won’t provide an explanation. Over 100 candidates who contested on the AAP platform have met and pledged to join hands, as they are partners in the INDIA alliance. Leaders from Bidar in the northernmost part of the state to Chamarajanagar in the south are enthusiastic about joining the Congress party,” he confirmed.

Ramappa Lamani, who officially joined the Congress, emphasized that his entry into the grand old party is unconditional. “I left the BJP due to the suffering I experienced in the party. I will work to ensure the victory of Congress candidates. Shettar and Shivakumar have successfully attracted many leaders to the Congress, and the party is poised to govern the state for the next decade,” he declared.

Lamani pointed out that many BJP leaders secured victory by margins of fewer than 1,500 votes in the last assembly elections. Were it not for these narrow wins, the BJP would have only won 40 seats. He also predicted the BJP’s decline in the near future and praised the guarantee schemes implemented by Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, which have earned the trust of the people.

He further noted that in the upcoming days, BJP party workers have also expressed their intent to join the Congress.

Governor’s Stance on Bills Baffles Kerala CM: No Requirement for Direct Briefings, Asserts Chief Minister

0

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan responded to Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan’s recent comments regarding his desire for direct briefings on bills. The Chief Minister affirmed that it is not customary for him to meet with the Governor for such briefings.

“I don’t know why the Governor is taking such a position. This is not a common practice. The concerned minister has briefed the Governor on the bills, and that’s the norm,” stated the Chief Minister in response.

Earlier this month, the Governor had expressed his anticipation for Chief Minister Vijayan to personally explain and address any doubts he has regarding certain bills. Vijayan’s government is concerned about the Governor withholding eight important bills, with three of them remaining pending for over a year, and one for nearly 22 months.

Furthermore, three more bills have been in the Governor’s possession for around a year, while two have been with him for less than a year. Last month, Vijayan suggested that legal measures might be pursued against the Governor for not signing the bills.

In response to the situation, the Kerala government has sought legal advice from jurist Fali S. Nariman and engaged in discussions with veteran lawyer K.K. Venugopal to represent the state at the apex court.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Playfully Labels Himself ‘Faltu Mukhya Mantri’ in Latest Verbal Mishap

0

Bihar’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, has been grabbing headlines recently, but not for the usual reasons. During a public event in Patna, he made a noteworthy slip of the tongue, humorously referring to himself as “Faltu Mukhya Mantri”

The amusing incident occurred when Nitish Kumar, while addressing a gathering at an event of the Panchayati Raj Department, inadvertently referred to the Bihar Chief Secretary, Amir Subhani, as “chief Mukhya Mantri” (chief Chief Minister). When corrected by officials present, Kumar attempted to rectify the error but ended up playfully calling himself “Faltu Mukhya Mantri.”

Speaking about the construction of Panchayati Sarkar buildings in the state, Kumar stated, “When the World Bank learned about the Panchayat Sarkar building, they were highly pleased and offered to provide financial help in making 330 buildings.” However, his self-deprecating comment added a humorous twist to the event.

This recent slip of the tongue by the Chief Minister has become a point of discussion and amusement in Bihar’s political circles. It is not the first time Nitish Kumar has made such speech-related errors.

During a Janata Darbar, he mistakenly asked officials to call the Home Minister, despite holding the Home portfolio himself. On another occasion, he claimed to have granted reservations to sportspersons during his tenure as Union Home Minister, a position he never held in his career. Kumar previously served as the Union Railway and Agriculture Minister.

Police Constable Shoots Mother-in-law Dead Amid Family Dispute

Hyderabad : A tragic incident unfolded in Gundla Singaram, Hanamkonda district, Telangana, as a constable fatally shot his mother-in-law during a heated family dispute on Thursday.

The victim, Kamalamma (53), lost her life when Constable A. Prasad discharged a firearm during a tense argument with her. The confrontation led to a fatal outcome.

Following the shooting, enraged family members and neighbors apprehended Prasad and subjected him to physical assault before handing him over to the police.

Prasad had been serving at the Kotapalli police station in Peddapalli district and had been married to Ramadevi, a resident of Gundla Singaram, for approximately 15 years. However, due to ongoing marital conflicts, his wife had been living with her parents for the past three years.

On the fateful Thursday, Prasad visited his in-laws’ residence and engaged in a heated dispute with his mother-in-law regarding a Rs 4 lakh loan he had previously extended to her. In a moment of extreme anger, he retrieved a revolver and fired two rounds, tragically ending Kamalamma’s life.

The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.

BRS to Seek Supreme Court Intervention Regarding Car-like Election Symbols on Election Commission’s Roster

0

Hyderabad : The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party is poised to escalate its legal battle over the duplication of its party symbol, the car, on the Central Election Commission’s list of free symbols.

The ruling party’s legal team initiated the fight by filing a writ petition in the Delhi High Court, seeking the removal of car-like symbols from the Commission’s roster of election symbols. The matter was brought before the Court on Thursday, where the counsel representing BRS was advised to consider filing a plea either in the Telangana High Court or the Supreme Court.

The BRS’s writ petition underlined the detrimental impact of the party’s election symbol’s resemblance to other symbols like the road roller, chapatti maker, and camera, which appear on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). This visual similarity was argued to have caused BRS candidates to lose votes in elections. Notably, Telangana is gearing up for polls on November 30, with vote counting scheduled for December 3.

India Reiterates Support for Direct Negotiations Between Palestine and Israel: MEA

0

New Delhi: In a significant diplomatic statement, India reiterated its stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict, branding it as a terrorist attack while championing the need for direct negotiations to ensure peaceful coexistence.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, expressed India’s perspective, stating, “We have been very clear that we see it as a terrorist attack. As far as Palestine is concerned, India has advocated the resumption of direct negotiations towards establishing the sovereign, independent, and viable state of Palestine, living within secure and recognized borders side by side with Israel.”

The spokesperson’s remarks came in response to a series of inquiries regarding the escalating Israel-Palestine conflict, which witnessed heightened tensions after the Hamas group launched rocket attacks on Tel Aviv.

Bagchi underlined that the government’s primary focus is the safe return of approximately 18,000 Indians currently stranded in the region. He affirmed, “Our focus is to bring back Indians who want to come out of Israel. There are 18,000 Indians there, including students.” He further disclosed the launch of “Operation Ajay” to facilitate the repatriation of Indian citizens from the war-torn Israel.

“Yesterday, Operation Ajay was launched to facilitate our citizens who wish to come back. The first flight will reach Tel Aviv tonight and is likely to reach India tomorrow (Friday) with 230 people,” Bagchi informed.

He also assured that there have been no reported casualties among the Indians stranded in Israel, except for one individual who sustained an injury. “We are aware of one Indian who was injured. The person is in the hospital. Thankfully, we have not heard of any Indian casualty,” he added.

Addressing concerns about Indians in Palestine, Bagchi shared, “My understanding is that about a dozen-odd people are there in the West Bank, while 3-4 people are in Gaza. The number is very small. Mostly, we have received requests (to rescue) from Israel.”

Moreover, the Indian Air Force has kept its aircraft on standby, prepared to evacuate Indian citizens from Israel if necessary. The IAF’s transport aircraft fleet, including the C-17 and IL-76 heavy-lift transport planes, along with the C-130J Super Hercules Special Operations aircraft, is ready for such evacuation operations, according to reports citing IAF officials.

In response to questions about reports suggesting External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s interactions with his Canadian counterpart, Bagchi clarified, “We have been in touch with Canadians at various levels, but we do not have any specific information regarding any particular interaction.”

Regarding Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau raising concerns about his country’s relations with India during discussions with other world leaders, Bagchi emphasized, “We don’t know really how it will help address the core issue of Canada giving space to terrorists and criminal elements. We would urge Canada to take more seriously their international obligations to provide security to our diplomats in their premises.”

Congress Strongly Denounces MIM Leaders’ Verbal Assault on Party Icons and Promises Transformation for Hyderabad’s Old City

0

Hyderabad : In a scathing response to recent remarks by MIM leaders Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi, the Congress party has issued a strong condemnation. The statements by the Owaisi brothers, directed at Congress stalwarts Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Revanth Reddy, have sparked a heated political exchange in the run-up to the upcoming elections.

TPCC Minorities Department Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, during a media briefing on Thursday, accused the Owaisi brothers of employing diversion tactics to divert attention from their own electoral shortcomings.

Sohail highlighted the propensity of the Owaisi brothers to become increasingly vocal during the election season, while simultaneously overlooking critical developmental issues in the Old City. He alleged that the MIM, with a track record of “zero development and nil performance,” has returned to solicit votes amidst a backdrop of unfulfilled promises.

Sohail specifically questioned the progress of the Old City Metro Rail project, previously hyped by the BRS and MIM following the last Telangana Assembly session. He emphasized that no tangible progress has been made, not even the laying of the project’s foundation stone. To illustrate his point, Sohail mentioned the inauguration of an IT Tower in Malakpet by IT Minister K. Tarakarama Rao, likening it to a series of similar symbolic gestures that had little tangible impact on Old City’s development. He accused MIM leaders of resorting to irresponsible statements against Congress leaders to evade scrutiny and criticism from the public, fearing a backlash in the forthcoming elections.

Abdullah Sohail further contended that neither Asaduddin Owaisi nor Akbaruddin Owaisi had the moral authority to criticize Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, or Revanth Reddy. He accused MIM of prioritizing mercenary interests and serving as a purported agent of the Sangh Parivar, a claim underpinned by their alleged strategy to field candidates that divide Muslim votes, potentially benefiting the BJP in elections. Sohail also accused MIM of resorting to blackmailing major parties and candidates by threatening to field contestants and disrupt vote shares, thus undermining the democratic process. Sohail concluded that the Owaisi brothers viewed elections as an opportunity to amass wealth rather than a moment for introspection and accountability to the electorate.

In a resolute defense of Revanth Reddy, Abdullah Sohail affirmed that the accusations of him being a BJP agent were baseless. He contended that it was, in fact, the MIM that acted as a conduit for the BJP and RSS, nurturing ideologies of hatred and communal discord.

Abdullah Sohail predicted that the Owaisi brothers would face a formidable challenge in the upcoming elections. He underscored the Congress party’s commitment to ushering in positive change in Telangana, particularly in the Old City of Hyderabad, despite the vitriolic rhetoric emanating from the MIM camp.
