Hyderabad : In a significant administrative reshuffle ahead of the Telangana elections, Sandeep Shandilya, a distinguished 1993 batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police (CP) for Hyderabad. Shandilya, previously serving as the Cyberabad CP, will officially assume his new role starting this Saturday. This key appointment follows an order issued by Telangana Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari.

The Election Commission (EC) has played a pivotal role in the reshuffling process, transferring 20 officials in the state, including four District Collectors and 13 IPS officers, among them the outgoing Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand. With the elections looming, the EC’s decision has paved the way for fresh faces to take charge in crucial positions. Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari has submitted a proposed list of replacements to the EC, and finalizations are underway.

In addition to the appointment of Sandeep Shandilya as the new Hyderabad CP, various other key positions have witnessed changes. Ten districts have welcomed new Superintendents of Police (SPs), signaling a broader administrative revamp. Among the notable appointments are Hanumanth as Yadadri Collector, Ashish Sangwan as Nirmal Collector, Bharti Holikeri as Rangareddy Collector, and Gautham as Medchal Collector. Furthermore, Vani Prasad has been named Principal Secretary of the Transport Department, while Sunil Sharma assumes the role of Principal Secretary of the Excise and Commercial Taxes Department. Jyoti Buddha Prakash has been appointed as the Excise Commissioner, and Christina takes charge as the Commissioner of Commercial Taxes.

Warangal and Nizamabad have also witnessed new leadership in their law enforcement agencies. Amber Kishore Jha has been appointed as the Commissioner of Police for Warangal, and Kalmeshwar assumes the role of Commissioner of Police for Nizamabad.

This reshuffle, marked by strategic appointments across various departments, underscores the state’s preparation and organizational adjustments in anticipation of the upcoming elections. The changes aim to enhance efficiency, security, and governance as Telangana gears up for this crucial political event.

Hyderabad : -Today, a crucial meeting of the Minority Declaration Draft Committee of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) took place, chaired by Mr. Zafar Javeed, Convenor of the Draft Declaration Committee.

During this significant gathering, the committee made a pivotal decision to actively seek input from Muslim and Christian religious, welfare, and educational organizations concerning matters related to the well-being of these communities. The Congress party has already received a substantial number of representations from prominent organizations advocating for the inclusion of specific points in both the Congress manifesto and the forthcoming minority declaration.

In an effort to engage these communities and embrace their concerns, it was unanimously agreed to convene a comprehensive meeting with the leaders of prominent organizations representing both the Muslim and Christian communities. This gathering will serve as a platform for not only soliciting their valuable suggestions but also for garnering the support of these organizations and communities for the Congress Party in the forthcoming Telangana Assembly elections.

The interaction between the prominent Congress leaders and community representatives is expected to further strengthen the party’s connection with the minority communities.

Moreover, it was announced that the Minority Declaration of the Party will be officially unveiled after the Dusshera festival, with National leaders of the Congress Party presiding over the release.

Hyderabad : In a significant political development, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, a seasoned leader and former TPCC chief, has announced his departure from the Congress party. His decision comes as a response to what he perceives as profound injustices towards the backward classes within the party.

Emotions ran high as Ponnala Lakshmaiah made this announcement, marking the end of his four-decade-long association with the Congress. He explained that he could no longer endure the humiliation and marginalization experienced by himself and other leaders from backward classes within the party.

One of the crucial grievances that Ponnala Lakshmaiah raised was the prioritization of individual interests over the collective welfare of the party. He pointed out that new entrants were being unjustly promoted to positions of power, diminishing the roles of seasoned leaders.

Ponnala Lakshmaiah also shared a troubling incident where a delegation of 50 backward class leaders from Telangana, seeking preferential treatment for their community in the distribution of election tickets, was denied an audience with All India Congress Committee (AICC) leaders. Furthermore, he expressed his disappointment at being unable to secure an appointment with AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, which spanned over a ten-day period.

In his resignation letter addressed to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Ponnala Lakshmaiah lamented the unjust blame heaped upon him for the party’s defeat in Telangana during the 2014 elections, despite the Congress party’s nationwide setbacks. He criticized the party for its failure to address the lack of progress in the 2018 elections and for failing to take corrective actions. Instead, he noted, additional positions were allocated without merit.

Ponnala Lakshmaiah, a prominent leader hailing from the Munnur Kapu backward class community in Jangaon district, has previously served as a minister under five different chief ministers in undivided Andhra Pradesh. Notably, he held the irrigation portfolio in Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s cabinet and later managed the information technology portfolio in Kiran Kumar Reddy’s government. After earning a Master’s degree from Oklahoma University, Ponnala Lakshmaiah’s political journey began when he joined the Congress party after his return to India in 1978. He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from Jangaon in 1989, serving for three consecutive terms until his defeat in 2018.

In a significant twist, it is widely speculated that Ponnala Lakshmaiah may join the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). This possibility was hinted at in his resignation letter, where he praised BRS for empowering even smaller backward class leaders by appointing them as Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Councils.

Ponnala Lakshmaiah’s departure presents a substantial challenge for the Congress party in the lead-up to the highly anticipated Telangana Assembly elections scheduled for the next month.
