0

In a startling development, twin explosions rocked a prayer meeting at a convention center in Kerala, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor expressed his deep shock and condemnation of the incident, urging swift police action.

Tharoor, the Member of Parliament for Thiruvananthapuram, lamented the tragic turn of events, decrying the prevailing “mentality of killing and destruction” in his state. He called on religious leaders to unite in condemning such acts of violence and teach their followers that violence only begets more violence.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah engaged with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in response to the blasts. He also instructed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG) to deploy to the scene and initiate an inquiry.

The explosions occurred during a prayer meeting of Jehovah’s Witness believers at the Zamra International Convention and Exhibition Centre in the Ernakulam district, resulting in one fatality and numerous critical injuries.

The Home Minister subsequently directed the heads of both the NIA and the NSG to dispatch their specialized teams to commence an inquiry.

Kerala Chief Minister Vijayan described the explosion as an unfortunate incident and affirmed that the state government was taking it very seriously. Top officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP), were dispatched to the site to gather information.

Kerala’s Leader of Opposition and the President of the Congress party in the state, VD Satheesan, reported that there were two explosions and a subsequent fire. The initial major blast was followed by a minor one. A woman lost her life, and 25 individuals injured in the incident were receiving treatment, with six of them in critical condition in the ICU. Approximately 2,000 people were present at the prayer hall when the explosive devices detonated.

The victims of the twin blasts were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kalamassery, as well as private hospitals.

The explosions were reported shortly after 9:30 am during a regional meeting of the Jehovah’s Witness believers.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Slams Modi Government Over Soaring Onion Prices

0

In a scathing critique on Sunday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a blistering attack on the Narendra Modi government, decrying the spiraling onion prices that have once again left consumers grappling with soaring costs. Kharge contends that the forthcoming state elections will elucidate the reasons behind this price surge, asserting that the BJP’s defeat is the key to unraveling the onion price enigma.

Kharge’s indictment comes in the wake of onion prices soaring to a staggering Rs 65-80 per kilogram in the retail markets of the national capital, attributable to a dip in supply.

Taking to social media platform X, Kharge expressed his deep concern in Hindi, highlighting the prolonged ordeal of the public over the past nine-and-a-half years of BJP rule, marked by relentless inflation. “Each time the issue of inflation surfaces,” Kharge lamented, “the Modi government dismisses it with mockery and flippant statements such as ‘Inflation is not visible,’ ‘I don’t consume onions,’ or ‘Our situation is better than other nations.'”

The Congress leader posed the burning question, “Why are onions exorbitant once more?” and asserted, “The people in the five states will unveil this mystery by defeating the BJP!”

The Congress party, on its part, alleged on Saturday that the Modi government has been ineffective in taming the rising prices and affirmed that the electorate’s exasperation with inflation will manifest clearly in the forthcoming elections.

These crucial elections are slated to occur in five states: Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram, with the results set to be announced on December 3. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.

Rahul Gandhi Challenges PM Modi: “Why Fear a Caste-Based Census?”

0

Chhattisgarh : Congress MP Rahul Gandhi made a significant announcement on Saturday, reaffirming the Congress party’s commitment to conducting a caste-based census if it assumes power at the national level. During his address in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker, ahead of the state assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi called out Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning why the government is hesitant to initiate such a census.

Gandhi stated, “We will expedite the caste-based census as swiftly as possible. If our government takes office, the process will commence within two hours. And if the Congress government is formed in Chhattisgarh, then the state government will initiate the caste-based survey.”

He further probed, “Why are you (PM Modi) apprehensive about an OBC caste-based census? Why is there no mention of it in your speeches? What about the data we compiled during our tenure? In today’s India, the OBC community is not adequately represented. It seems like you are concealing this reality from the OBC youth.”

In preparation for the state assembly elections, the Congress has fielded Shankar Dhruv from the Kanker (ST) seat, reserved for Scheduled Tribes. Girish Devangan is the Congress candidate for Rajnandgaon, and Savitri Mandavi is contesting from the reserved constituency of Bhanupratappur (ST).

The first phase of polling for 20 seats in Chhattisgarh is scheduled for November 7. After the initial phase, the remaining 70 seats in the state will go to polls on November 17, with the vote count taking place on December 3.

Elections in Chhattisgarh will be contested across 90 assembly seats, with both major parties, the BJP and Congress, having finalized their lists of candidates. The Congress, the ruling party in the state, has nominated leaders like Ambica Singh Deo from Baikunthpur, Chaturi Nand from Saraipali, Ambina Markam from Sihawa, and Omkar Sahu from Dhamtari.

Fatal Altercation in Hyderabad: Lover Retaliates After Alleged Murder of Married Woman

0

Hyderabad : A disturbing incident unfolded at IS Sadan in the city on a fateful Saturday afternoon, involving the alleged murder of a woman by her husband over an extramarital affair, followed by a retaliatory act by the woman’s lover.

The victim, identified as Swapna (21), hailing from Mahabubnagar district, had been residing in a rented house on the second floor of a building at NTR Colony, Champapet, under the jurisdiction of IS Sadan police station for the past year. Notably, she had developed a close friendship with Prem Kumar, who operated a tea stall, and the two had tied the knot just a month ago.

Tensions began to simmer when Prem started suspecting that his wife was involved in an extramarital relationship. Matters reached a boiling point on a Saturday morning when, feigning a departure for work, Prem returned home to find his wife in the company of another man named Suresh.

In a fit of rage, Prem reportedly attacked his wife with a knife, resulting in a tragic outcome where her throat was fatally slit. The situation escalated further as a fierce altercation erupted between Suresh and Prem. It culminated with Suresh allegedly pushing Prem from the second floor of the building, leading to severe head injuries, as explained by IS Sadan Inspector, S. Mallesh.

The homeowner, upon discovering Prem lying on the ground, acted swiftly to rush him to a hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is reported to be critical.

Tragically, the lifeless body of the woman was transferred to the mortuary at Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem examination. Law enforcement has initiated an investigation into the incident, with three dedicated teams formed to track down Suresh, who reportedly went into hiding following the altercation.

Hyderabad : A gruesome incident unfolded at a butcher shop in Edi Bazaar, resulting in the murder of Naveed Qureshi. Three individuals, namely Mohd Moiz (23), Mohd Ismail (19), and Syed Saif (19), have been apprehended by the Santoshnagar police in connection with the incident.

According to the authorities, Moiz and the victim, Naveed Qureshi, had a history of involvement in an attempted murder case earlier this year in Shahalibanda. Both were previously arrested and subsequently incarcerated.

Upon their release, conflicts arose between Moiz and Naveed, with Naveed allegedly threatening to take Moiz’s life, blaming him for their prior involvement in the Shahalibanda attempted murder case.

A few days ago, Moiz, with the assistance of Ismail, learned about Naveed’s purported intentions to harm him. Together with Saif, they devised a plan to eliminate Naveed, as explained by Santoshnagar Inspector K Shiva Chandra.

On Thursday afternoon, an opportunity presented itself, and Moiz visited Naveed’s shop on Edi Bazaar road. Armed with a knife, he allegedly repeatedly stabbed Naveed, resulting in his tragic demise, according to the Inspector. The police swiftly registered a case and took Moiz, Ismail, and Saif into custody.

UNGA: India Abstains from Vote on Resolution Focused on Gaza Conflict

New York : In the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), India chose to abstain from voting on a resolution led by Jordan, which aimed to establish a ceasefire in Gaza and ensure “unhindered” humanitarian access to the war-torn region. Notably, the resolution did not mention Hamas.

During the explanation of India’s abstention, Yojna Patel, India’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, asserted that there is no justification for terrorism. India expressed its concern over the October 7 terror attack on Israel. Additionally, India called for the release of hostages held in Gaza by the Hamas Islamist terror group and welcomed all efforts to de-escalate tensions, citing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as deeply concerning.

Watch

India reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution to address the protracted Israel-Palestine conflict. The conflict had resulted in over 1,400 reported casualties in Israel following a severe assault by the Palestinian terror group, Hamas.

The emergency special session of the UNGA convened to vote on the resolution proposed by Jordan, with the backing of over 40 countries, including Bangladesh, Pakistan, Maldives, South Africa, and Russia. The resolution, titled “Protection of civilians and upholding legal and humanitarian obligations,” passed with 120 nations voting ‘Yes,’ 14 voting ‘No,’ and 45 abstaining.

In addition to India, countries such as Australia, Germany, Canada, Japan, Ukraine, and the UK also abstained from voting on the resolution. The United States argued that the omission of any reference to Hamas in the resolution equated to an “omission of evil.”

Before the vote, an amendment put forward by Canada, supported by the US, was considered. India voted in favor of the Canadian amendment to the Jordanian proposal on the Israel-Palestine resolution, which condemned the Hamas terror attack on Israel. However, the resolution failed to achieve a two-thirds majority vote in the UNGA and was not adopted.

This situation underscores India’s position at the UN, where it abstained from the Jordanian resolution that did not explicitly condemn Hamas terror attacks on Israel but supported the Canadian amendment, which did precisely that. The amendment called for the inclusion of a paragraph in the resolution that “unequivocally rejects and condemns the terrorist attacks by Hamas that took place in Israel starting on 7 October 2023 and the taking of hostages, demands the safety, well-being, and humane treatment of the hostages in compliance with international law, and calls for their immediate and unconditional release.”

Abdullah Sohail’s Resignation from Congress Highlights Departure from Secular Ideals

0

Hyderabad : Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chairman, Shaik Abdullah Sohail, has sent shockwaves through the political landscape by tendering his resignation from the Congress party after a dedicated 34-year-long association. Sohail made this momentous announcement during a press conference at the Hyderabad Press Club, accompanied by a detailed letter addressed to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) President, Mallikarjun Kharge, outlining the reasons for his departure.

In his heartfelt letter, Sohail expressed profound disappointment with the current state of the party, particularly under the leadership of the present TPCC President, A Revanth Reddy. He accused Reddy of corrupt practices, including the alleged sale of party positions and assembly tickets, as well as a departure from the party’s core secular principles and values.

Sohail reflected on his long journey within the Congress, recounting his rise from a Booth Committee president to the State Chairman of the Minorities Dept and his numerous contributions and sacrifices for the party. He bitterly noted recent trends in ticket allocations, alleging that genuine, hardworking party leaders were sidelined in favor of wealthy newcomers with no history of grassroots work.

He made a startling revelation, stating, “In the name of political strategist Sunil Konugula, a big scam was made in the name of conducting surveys. We came across several aspirants who’ve paid crores of rupees to some close associates of Revanth Reddy on the promise that their names will be included in the ‘surveys’ of Sunil Konugulu. This entire scam was weaved right under the shed of AICC Headquarters.”

Sohail continued to raise questions, asking, “The ticket was denied to former MLA P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy from the Jubilee Hills seat on the pretext that his sister P. Vijaya Reddy was being given a ticket from the Khairtabad constituency. The logic was not more than one ticket would be given in a family. In that case, why were tickets given to Mynampalli Hanumanth Rao and his son Rohit Rao? This father-son duo joined the Congress from the BRS party only this month. Why was the one-ticket-per-family logic not applied here? Is it because they offered a big land deal to Revanth Reddy and his men, and Vishnuvardhan Reddy, as a true Congress worker, does not indulge in such dirty things?”

Accusing the Congress High Command of turning a blind eye to the transformation of the party’s headquarters into a “shopping mall,” Sohail claimed a blatant violation of the party’s core values and principles of secularism and social justice.

He further added, “The entry of Revanth Reddy as the TPCC President in June 2021 completely changed everything. He turned the Congress party into a grocery shop where people with heavy wallets could walk in and purchase any post. Today, a majority of people who hold top positions in the party never worked on the ground, never participated in any agitation, and never faced arrest. They entered the Gandhi Bhavan in their Mercedez, received a red carpet welcome, paid a certain amount, and purchased a top position. Unfortunately, the Congress High Command, which boasts of a huge organizational network and an active vigilance mechanism, did not realize that the party headquarters Gandhi Bhavan has been turned into a shopping mall.”

Sohail criticized the alleged communalization of the Congress Party in Telangana, warning of a potential mass defection to the BJP, led by Revanth Reddy, following the upcoming elections. He drew parallels with historical precedents where Congress leaders with RSS backgrounds caused significant ideological shifts.

With deep regret, Shaik Abdullah Sohail concluded that the Congress party he served passionately for over three decades had strayed far from its founding ideals. Expressing his inability to continue under an RSS-affiliated leadership, Sohail declared his resignation from his post and the primary membership of the Congress party.

Setback for Telangana Congress NRI Leader Jhansi Reddy’s Citizenship Aspirations

0

Jhansi Reddy, a prominent Congress ticket aspirant from the Palakurthi Assembly constituency in Telangana and an American citizen, has encountered a significant hurdle in her quest for Indian citizenship.

The Hyderabad District Collector has communicated to Reddy that her request for Indian citizenship cannot be considered at this time. This decision is based on the requirement that individuals must have resided in India continuously for a year immediately before applying for Indian citizenship, as outlined in Section 5 (1) (g) of the Citizenship Act, 1955. Reddy entered India on June 16, 2022, but her stay did not meet the mandatory 12-month duration required for citizenship eligibility.

However, the District Collector has informed Reddy that she can re-apply for citizenship once she fulfills all the conditions outlined in the Indian Citizenship Act, 2009.

Jhansi Reddy, a notable figure in the Telugu NRI community, is the founder and president of the U.S.-based organization Women Empowerment Telugu Association. The organization is dedicated to creating opportunities for women and has been involved in philanthropic activities.

Reddy had actively campaigned in the Palakurthi constituency with the expectation of receiving a Congress ticket for the upcoming elections. The Palakurthi constituency is currently represented by BRS leader and Minister for Panchayat Raj, E. Dayakar Rao. The setback regarding her citizenship aspirations adds a new dimension to the political landscape in the region.

It appears that Jhansi Reddy isn’t giving up hope, as she continues to actively engage in political activities within her constituency. Today, she shared some photos and posted on her Facebook wall:

“Today, leaders from the TRS party in Ayyangaripalli village, Palakurthi Mandal, Janagama district, including village vice sarpanch Gone Venkatalakshmi Damodar, ward member Vadlakonda Ashok, village party president Kamalakar, ex-ward member Ponnala Venkanna, and Vadlakonda Anjaneyulu have joined the Congress party under the guidance of Palakurthi constituency candidate Jhansi Reddy.
Despite her recent setback regarding her Indian citizenship application, Jhansi Reddy remains active in the political arena, engaging with local leaders and her constituents.

YSRCP MP G. Madhav Predicts N. Chandrababu Naidu’s Fate in 2024

In a politically charged statement, Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Lok Sabha member, Gorantla Madhav, made a controversial prediction regarding former Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader, N. Chandrababu Naidu. This statement was made while addressing a gathering in Singanamala constituency as part of the YSRCP’s Samajika Sadhikara Yatra.

Madhav, representing Hindupur in the Lok Sabha, remarked that Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would assume the Chief Minister’s role again in 2024, while suggesting that Chandrababu Naidu would meet an unfortunate fate. The former Chief Minister is currently in judicial custody in connection with the Skill Development Corporation case.

During his speech, Madhav didn’t hold back in his criticism of Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh (TDP national general secretary and Naidu’s son), and Jana Sena Party leader Pawan Kalyan. He highlighted the outcomes of their respective political campaigns, stating that Chandrababu Naidu’s bus yatra led to his imprisonment, Lokesh’s padyatra transformed into a Delhi yatra, and Pawan Kalyan’s Varahi Yatra ended with him going in a different direction. Madhav firmly asserted, “No matter how many yatras they undertake, they can’t stop the victory march of Jagan Mohan Reddy.”

In response to Madhav’s remarks, Nara Lokesh vehemently expressed his concerns, describing the statement as a veiled death threat directed at Chandrababu Naidu. Lokesh criticized the YSRCP MP’s comments and alluded to the circumstances surrounding Naidu’s arrest, particularly referring to a letter Naidu had written to the Vijayawada Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court, claiming threats to his life while in the Rajahmundry Central Prison. Naidu has been in judicial custody since his arrest on September 9 in connection with an alleged skill development scam.

The situation remains contentious, with political tensions running high in Andhra Pradesh. The people of the state continue to closely monitor developments, raising questions about the safety and security of their political leader.
