Former Jubilee Hills MLA Holds Meeting with CM KCR Amid Political Turmoil

0

Hyderabad : Former Jubilee Hills MLA, P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, was seen engaging in a casual meeting with Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao at Pragathi Bhavan this past Sunday.

This interaction comes on the heels of a significant political development where the AICC (All India Congress Committee) chose not to grant Vishnuvardhan Reddy an MLA ticket for the upcoming elections. Instead, the party has opted for the cricket legend Mohammed Azharuddin as its candidate in the Jubilee Hills constituency.

In a clear expression of dissent against the AICC’s decision, Vishnuvardhan Reddy and his supporters resorted to aggressive protests on the previous Saturday. This included the throwing of stones and an attack on Gandhi Bhavan, highlighting the intensity of the opposition to the party’s move.

Vishnuvardhan Reddy, a prominent political figure in the region, had previously represented Jubilee Hills in the legislative assembly. He secured electoral victories in this constituency in the years 2004 and 2009. However, his fortunes took a downturn as he faced defeats in the 2014 and 2018 elections, losing to MLA Maganti Gopinath. This recent turn of events adds an intriguing twist to the political landscape in Jubilee Hills and Telangana at large.

0

Hyderabad : In a significant political development, several prominent leaders from Telangana, including Malkajgiri MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao and his son Rohith, former Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham, and others, officially joined the Congress party. The induction ceremony took place in the presence of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president, Mallikarjun Kharge.

The notable additions to the Congress party’s ranks also included former Bhongir District Congress Committee (DCC) president Kumbam Anil Kumar Reddy and former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Nakka Prabhakar Goud. The event was held at the residence of Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi and saw the presence of key party leaders from the state.

He also advocated for his close associate Prabhakar Goud, who had contested from Medchal on a BSP ticket in 2018, to get another chance, this time representing the Congress party.

No Gold Medals for Genetics Toppers at Osmania University’s 83rd Convocation

0

Hyderabad : Osmania University, a century-old institution renowned for its academic excellence, is gearing up for its 83rd convocation, scheduled for October 31, 2023. However, amid the anticipation and excitement of awarding gold medals to top-performing students, there’s a notable absence: Genetics.

The university, located in Hyderabad, a city celebrated as the “world’s vaccine capital” and home to Genome Valley, a hub for life sciences research and development, faces an intriguing predicament. Despite the grandeur and significant investments in the name of Genome Valley, Osmania University seems to lack the financial resources to honor its Genetics toppers with gold medals.

In an interview with The Hans India, a university official revealed that a total of 57 top rankers will receive gold medals during the upcoming convocation. However, there are no gold medals allocated for students excelling in the M.Sc Genetics program and a few other courses.

The reason behind this disparity lies in the funding for gold medals. The university relies on endowments provided by donors to establish gold medal awards, as it does not receive sufficient financial support from the state government for this purpose. As a result, students in certain departments, including Genetics, find themselves without the recognition they deserve.

In response to this situation, Vishnu Vachana Murapaka, an M.Sc student in the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology at Osmania University, penned an email to the State Governor and Chancellor of the university. She expressed her disappointment and concern about the lack of gold medals for top-performing students in her department.

Vishnu Vachana highlighted her academic achievements, having secured an impressive 8.75 CGPA out of 10 and earning a first division with distinction in 2002, while also being a university topper in Genetics. She questioned the absence of gold medals for her department and others like it, contrasting this with the recognition accorded to students in various other fields.

Furthermore, Vishnu Vachana raised a thought-provoking query to the Chancellor, asking whether it was her fault for choosing a department that had struggled to secure donors for gold medals. This discrepancy has left toppers like her feeling marginalized and excluded from the convocation hall, where their peers receive gold medals and public recognition.

As Osmania University’s 83rd convocation draws near, it remains to be seen if the issue of gold medals for Genetics toppers, and potentially others in a similar position, will receive attention and a resolution.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Announces Receipt of Caste Census Report

0

Bangalore : Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made an announcement on Sunday regarding the much-anticipated caste census report. He revealed that the Congress government is set to receive the comprehensive caste census report, highlighting the historical significance of this effort.

“Our government was the first to conduct a caste census in the entire country. I had initiated the caste census with the aim of understanding the social and economic status of each caste. Subsequently, successive governments did not acknowledge the census report. However, Jayaprakash Hegde, Chairman of the Commission for Backward Classes, will be presenting the report on the caste census, and we are committed to receiving it,” stated the Chief Minister.

Siddaramaiah also emphasized the importance of education transcending caste and religion during his address at the Prerana Samarabha event organized by the Kalidasa Health and Education Trust and Ahilya Foundation. He said, “Talent knows no boundaries of caste or religion. If we provide equal educational opportunities to everyone, talent will undoubtedly emerge. Thus, education plays a pivotal role in fostering responsible citizens with self-respect.” The Chief Minister called for a collective commitment to promoting education, asserting that “every individual should be educated.”

Highlighting the historical context, Siddaramaiah mentioned that education was historically denied to the Shudra communities and even upper-caste girls before Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s efforts to grant educational rights. “We must grasp this historical perspective,” he emphasized.

In addition, the Chief Minister proposed a pragmatic approach to addressing healthcare and educational needs. He argued against the establishment of community-run medical colleges, citing the high costs and the inability to provide free seats to underprivileged rural students. Instead, he suggested the establishment of paramedical colleges, hostels, and ITIs by the community to support impoverished rural children.

Siddaramaiah also shared a personal anecdote from his B.Sc. days, where he would cook dinner in his room due to financial constraints. Drawing attention to the challenges faced by many students, he introduced the Vidyasiri program to provide support.

Furthermore, in response to changing demographics, the Chief Minister announced the government’s intention to amend rules to fill vacant rural doctor positions, addressing the current surplus of doctors relative to available posts in rural areas.

Several dignitaries, including Urban Development Minister Bairathi Suresh, Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Govindaraju, former corporator B.N Nitish Purushottam, and other esteemed guests, were in attendance at the event.
