Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar Extends Support Amidst Unfortunate Accident

Vikarabad : In a distressing turn of events today, a high-speed vehicle submerged in Shiva Reddy Pet Lake near Vikarabad district, resulting in the tragic drowning of one person, while the remaining four occupants were successfully rescued. The incident occurred along the Hyderabad-Vikarabad highway during a leisure trip by five individuals, including a woman. The submerged vehicle was later recovered with the aid of a crane.

Regrettably, Gunasekhar is reported missing. Despite extensive efforts involving numerous divers, his search persisted for 11 hours before his lifeless body was recovered around 4 p.m. this evening.

Upon being informed of the incident, Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, who is also an MLA of the Vikarabad Assembly constituency, swiftly arrived at the Shiva Reddy Pet Lake. Gathering details from the police, he coordinated enhanced assistance for the affected individuals and expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

Sub-Inspector of Police Anush Reddy reported that at 5 a.m. this morning, a local resident alerted the police via the emergency number 100 about a car with five occupants plunging into the Shiva Reddy Pet Lake. Immediate police response revealed that four occupants had managed to escape the pond, but Gunasekhar was missing.

The ongoing investigation by Sub-Inspector Anush Reddy focuses on determining the circumstances of the incident. Intense fog and dew during the early morning hours significantly compromised road visibility. Further insights from the three survivors will be crucial in understanding whether the accident resulted from a loss of balance or a collision with an unidentified vehicle.

The details revealed that Sagar, Raghu, Gunasekhar, Mohan, and Poojita embarked on a journey in a car with registration number AP 37 AT 5000 from Hyderabad at around 3:30 a.m. Their destination was Anantagiri Hills for tourism when, at 5 a.m., their speeding car tragically veered into Shiva Reddy Pet Lake. This incident unfolded amidst dense fog and rapid dew formation, possibly influenced by a route diversion due to the passage of an unknown vehicle.

The driver of the car was unfamiliar with the pond adjacent to the straight road. Following the submersion, one passenger successfully rescued the other three with safety measures, but Gunasekhar’s whereabouts remained unknown. Subsequently, all four survivors were transported to a local hospital.

Beyond local residents, a considerable number of relatives gathered at the scene following the incident. After an 11-hour search, divers successfully retrieved Gunasekhar’s lifeless body from the pond. The police actively pursue the investigation, filing a comprehensive report and conducting thorough inquiries into the matter.

Uttam Kumar Reddy Issues Stern Warning to Millers Over Ration Rice Recycling

0

Hyderabad : Irrigation, Food, and Civil Supplies Minister Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy has issued a stern warning against rice millers and others involved in the recycling of PDS (ration) rice. The minister, after a thorough inspection of a ration shop in Huzurnagar on Monday, expressed deep concern over the diversion and misuse of ration rice.

Currently, nearly 54 lakh ration cardholders in Telangana receive 5 kgs of rice from the Central Government and 1 kg from the State Government. Additionally, the State Government provides 6 kg of rice every month for another 35 lakh ration cardholders. Despite the total procurement cost amounting to Rs 39 per kg, Uttam Kumar Reddy highlighted that almost 70-75% of ration rice is being recycled by millers and other unscrupulous entities.

“The State Government views this matter very seriously. Anyone found involved in the recycling of rice will face severe consequences. The Congress Government is committed to taking stringent action against millers or any other individuals engaged in the recycling of ration rice,” he stated.

The minister also shed light on the financial challenges inherited from the previous government, with the Civil Supplies Corporation burdened with a massive debt of about Rs 56,000 crore. He emphasized that the annual interest burden of the corporation now exceeds Rs 3,000 crore, attributing the losses to the neglect of the department by the previous government.

Moreover, Uttam Kumar Reddy criticized the earlier government’s policy, which entrusted paddy stocks worth Rs 22,000 crore to rice millers without any security or bank guarantee. Facing a precarious situation, the corporation is exploring options like selling rice to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and considering an open sale of paddy stocks through a transparent mechanism.

“We are making efforts to rescue the corporation from its precarious position,” he announced, adding that measures would be implemented to streamline the department and enhance services to ration cardholders and farmers from whom paddy is procured. The last completed audit of the corporation was for the year 2018-19, and the minister assured an expedited audit to ensure accountability and transparency.

Owaisi Alarms Against AFSPA, Citing Rise in Custodial Violence

0

Hyderabad:- On Sunday, AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi raised serious concerns, stating that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Jammu and Kashmir is fostering custodial violence and torture.

Terming the killing of the three men as horrifying, Owaisi took to social media to express his views, highlighting that the compensation offered by the government is inadequate.

Owaisi’s comments were prompted by reports of the alleged torture of three civilians by the Army, who were later found dead on December 22 near the site of a militant attack in Poonch district. The attack on December 21 resulted in the death of five soldiers and left two injured.

“The compensation by the government is not enough. AFSPA in Kashmir emboldens such custodial violence and torture. The culprits need to be investigated and punished under civilian laws,” Owaisi stated.

In response to the incident, the Jammu and Kashmir administration announced compensation and jobs for the kin of the deceased civilians.

Addressing party workers, Owaisi voiced his apprehension about the situation in Kashmir, noting that not since 1991 have the forces faced such an attack. He also expressed deep concern over the custodial torture of civilians, questioning the status of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s previous claims after the repeal of Article 370 and demonetization.

“Unfortunately, dialogue-baazi has replaced proper national security,” Owaisi added, emphasizing the need for a more comprehensive approach to address the challenges faced in the region.

Karnataka CM’s Statement on Hijab Ban Sparks Confusion and Uncertainty

0

Mangaluru : -In a surprising turn of events, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recent comments regarding the potential revocation of the hijab ban in government schools and colleges have generated confusion. Contrary to initial reports, the CM clarified on Saturday that no official order has been issued, emphasizing that a conclusive decision will only be reached following thorough discussions at the government level.

During a media address in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah clarified, “We have not issued any order on this matter. In response to a query about the hijab, I mentioned that we are contemplating lifting the ban. The final decision will be made after discussions at the government level.”

Complicating matters further, School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa underscored the sensitivity of the issue, affirming that any decision would carefully consider the legal framework and involve consultations with the chief minister. He stressed the importance of handling the matter with care and avoiding unnecessary politicization.

The hijab ban is currently under judicial review, marked by a split verdict from the Supreme Court in October 2022. Justice Hemant Gupta supported the ban, citing the promotion of uniformity and a secular environment, while Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia viewed the right to wear the hijab as a matter of personal choice linked to a girl’s dignity and privacy.

The case has been referred to a yet-to-be-constituted three-judge bench. B V Acharya, former advocate general of Karnataka, suggested that if the government revokes the order, petitioners may argue the appeal in the Supreme Court becomes irrelevant. However, if the High Court order is upheld, the influence of college development committees may strengthen.

In Mandya, Muskan Khan, who discontinued her education due to the hijab ban, expressed hope for a resolution. Meanwhile, former education minister B C Nagesh accused Siddaramaiah of needlessly creating societal divisions for political gains, emphasizing that the Karnataka High Court order remains valid until the three-judge bench hears the matter.

As uncertainty persists, the hijab issue continues to be a complex and contentious topic, entwining legal, social, and political dimensions.
