Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Returns Satisfied from Delhi Meetings

0

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has expressed contentment following his recent engagements with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Ministers in New Delhi over the past three days. He sees these meetings as a testament to the impact of a positive approach and effective communication with the Central Government, believing it can significantly benefit Telangana.

In a statement, Revanth Reddy emphasized the importance of keeping politics separate from administration, citing a recent success in securing Telangana’s inclusion in the Republic Day parade tableau. Despite the selection process being concluded months ago, a personal appeal to the Prime Minister resulted in the Centre agreeing to showcase Telangana’s tableaux on January 26.

According to the Chief Minister, Prime Minister Modi promptly accepted a request to write a letter, a contrast to a similar appeal from the Karnataka government that went unanswered. During a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Revanth Reddy sought the sanctioning of 29 IPS officers. The immediate approval of 10 officers, with a commitment to consider the remaining positions after the new batch graduates, was a positive outcome.

In discussions with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Chief Minister revealed assurances that the state government’s proposals for fund mobilization through loans would be given due consideration. Sitharaman expressed regret over past communication gaps between the Centre and the state, expressing hope for improved cooperation under the present government.

Revanth Reddy conveyed his commitment to proactive governance in the interest of the state and announced plans to establish a commission for the delimitation and rationalization of districts. Additionally, the government is exploring the creation of a corporation to absorb farmers’ loans, with a percentage of revenue from land registrations and excise being redirected to the corporation. Ongoing negotiations with bankers are also in progress.

The Chief Minister assured that all nominated and chairpersons’ posts would be filled by the end of January. On the political front, Prof M Kodandaram is expected to be nominated as an MLC, likely under the Governor’s quota. Responding to criticism from BRS about the delay in providing Rytu Bandhu benefits, Revanth Reddy defended the government’s track record, highlighting the transfer of benefits to 25 lakh farmers since assuming power and urging patience and factual awareness before criticizing the government.

US Senator Urges Government Probe into Chinese Garlic as National Security Threat

0

In a move that underscores rising tensions between the United States and China, Republican Senator Rick Scott has called for a comprehensive government investigation into the national security implications of garlic imports from China. Citing concerns over unsanitary production methods, Senator Scott has written to the commerce secretary, urging swift action.

China, as the world’s leading exporter of fresh and chilled garlic, has long been a significant player in the global garlic trade. The United States, a major consumer of garlic, has consistently voiced grievances, accusing China of engaging in “dumping” practices—flooding the market with garlic at prices below production costs.

The contentious trade relationship has prompted the US to impose heavy tariffs and taxes on Chinese garlic imports since the mid-1990s. During the Trump administration in 2019, these tariffs were further increased, escalating tensions in the ongoing economic feud.

Senator Scott’s letter addresses not only economic concerns but delves into alarming public health issues allegedly associated with Chinese garlic production. He points to “severe public health concern[s] over the quality and safety of garlic grown in foreign countries,” particularly emphasizing garlic cultivated in “Communist China.”

Citing documented evidence from online videos, cooking blogs, and documentaries, Senator Scott raises disturbing claims, including the practice of growing garlic in sewage. He calls on the Department of Commerce to invoke an investigative law that allows assessments of specific imports’ impact on US security.

The senator provides a detailed list of garlic types that should be subject to scrutiny: “All grades of garlic, whole or separated into cloves, whether or not peeled, chilled, fresh, frozen, provisionally preserved, or packed in water or other neutral substance.”

Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Senator Scott asserts, “Food safety and security is an existential emergency that poses grave threats to our national security, public health, and economic prosperity.”

However, not all experts are convinced by the claims. The Office for Science and Society at McGill University in Quebec disputes Senator Scott’s allegations, stating that there is “no evidence” supporting the use of sewage as fertilizer for growing garlic in China. In a 2017 article, the university notes that while the idea may be unappealing, using human sewage as fertilizer is as effective and safe as animal waste. The scientific community remains divided on the issue, adding complexity to the already contentious trade dispute.

Hyderabad : – The recent cancellation of the Formula E racing championship in Hyderabad has ignited a spectrum of responses from residents, showcasing the city’s diverse perspectives on the unforeseen turn of events.

Local Activist Voices Discontent:
Harish Daga, a prominent local activist, expressed his dissatisfaction over the sudden cancellation. Emphasizing the significant loss of revenue and excitement, he believes the decision negatively impacts Hyderabad’s reputation. Daga urges the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department to reconsider, underlining potential consequences for the city’s image and economy.

Psychologist Welcomes Reprieve:
In contrast, individuals like Sandhya, a psychologist, welcome the cancellation, citing concerns about potential traffic disruptions, especially with the Secretariat functioning this year. Sandhya believes the event could have led to severe traffic issues, causing more harm than good to the city’s daily routines.

Enthusiasts Lament Missed Opportunity:
Sports enthusiasts, such as Ayush, a fervent Formula-1 fan, express a sense of loss over the missed opportunity to witness Jehan Daruwala, an Indian participant, race on home ground. For them, the event transcended a mere race; it symbolized a celebration of the sport and an opportunity to rally behind their country.

Economic Impact and Lingering Questions:
The cancellation of the inaugural race in Hyderabad, which generated an economic impact of nearly USD 84 million, disappoints fans and raises concerns about the city’s future as a host for international events. The decision, spearheaded by the new Congress government, has prompted Formula E organizers to contemplate their position, potentially considering legal actions.

Balancing Act:
These mixed responses underscore the delicate balance between the economic and social benefits of hosting international events and the practical challenges they pose to city infrastructure and residents’ lives. The cancellation of the Formula E race in Hyderabad serves as a poignant reminder of the intricate interplay between these factors and the complexities faced by burgeoning host cities.

Hyderabad Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrants in TSPSC Exam Paper Leak Case

0

Hyderabad : – In a significant development, a city court in Hyderabad issued Non-bailable Warrants (NBWs) against seven accused persons involved in the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) exam paper leak case. The Nampally Criminal Court issued these NBWs after the accused failed to appear in court on Friday.

The accused individuals, identified as A17, A18, A23, A25, A27, A28, and A37, did not attend the hearing and disregarded the court summons, prompting the judge to take the serious step of issuing non-bailable warrants. The police have been directed to arrest the accused persons and present them before the court.

It’s noteworthy that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is actively probing the TSPSC exam paper leak case. The investigating team has already arrested nearly 100 suspects in connection with this case. The accused persons face charges under various sections, including 318, 409, 420, 411, 120 (B), and 201 of the Indian Penal Code. Additionally, they are charged under various sections of the IT Act.

The exam paper leak scandal came to light on March 13, prompting swift police action. Nine suspects, including Praveen Kumar and Rajasekhar Reddy, a network admin at the public service commission, were detained. The accused individuals had illicitly obtained question papers from the computer in the confidential section of the Commission office and profited from the leak.

“Countdown to Telangana MLC Elections Begins: Front-Runners Emerge in Intense Political Showdown”

0

As the clock ticks towards the MLC elections in Telangana, key contenders such as Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Zafar Javeed, Mohammed Azharuddin and Khusro Pasha take center stage in a high-stakes political showdown. The dynamics of the race intensify, with speculation surrounding the coveted MLC seats and their potential role in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s cabinet.

Hyderabad : – As the Election Commission reveals the timetable for the upcoming election of two Member of Legislative Council (MLC) seats under the legislators’ quota, the Congress party finds itself entangled in a spirited competition. Speculation is rife within Congress circles that securing one of these coveted seats could potentially open the doors to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s cabinet.

The approaching elections, scheduled for January 29, promise a fierce contest among prominent Congress figures, each ambitiously vying for the MLC seat. The deadline for filing nominations is set for January 19, showcasing influential personalities such as former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Zafar Javeed, an educationist and senior Vice-President of TPCC, and the President of the prestigious Nizam Club Hyderabad. Former MP Mohammed Azharuddin and former Wakf Board chairman Syed Shah Ghulam Afzal Biyabani (Khusro Pasha), is also emerging as a front-runner. Other contenders include senior leaders Feroz Khan, Faheem Qureishi, and Azmathullah Hussaini.

The electoral dynamics suggest that Congress stands a chance to secure one MLC seat, while an alliance with the friendly party AIMIM could potentially clinch another for the BRS. This strategic move aligns with the Congress party’s goal to diversify its cabinet representation, placing particular emphasis on the necessity of a Muslim face ahead of the looming Lok Sabha elections. In a noteworthy development, the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections mark the first instance where neither Congress nor BRS has been able to secure a successful Muslim candidate.

A senior AICC leader emphasized the importance of including a Muslim representative in the state cabinet, given the substantial Muslim population in Telangana, exceeding 14 percent. The influence of Muslim votes is expected to play a pivotal role in key parliamentary constituencies, including Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Zaheerabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar, Warangal, and Khammam.

To secure victory, a candidate needs 40.66 votes, and the question remains whether the election authorities will adhere to 40 or extend it to 41 votes. The anticipation intensifies as the political landscape heats up with the announcement of the election schedule by the Election Commission of India. The MLC seats became vacant following the resignation of BRS leaders Kadiyam Srihari and Padi Kaushik Reddy, who transitioned to MLAs. The official election notification is scheduled for January 11, with nominations accepted until January 18. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on January 19, and the final withdrawal of candidatures is permitted until January 22. The actual elections are slated for January 29, adding an extra layer of excitement to the unfolding political drama.”

Fresh Land Grabbing Accusations Target Malla Reddy, Spark Protest at Praja Bhavan

0

Hyderabad, Jan 5: In a recent turn of events, a group of individuals staged a protest at Praja Bhavan, accusing former Telangana minister Malla Reddy of unlawfully seizing their lands. The protest occurred during the Praja Vani program on Friday, with protesters alleging that Malla Reddy, a Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader, utilized fraudulent documents to encroach upon their plots near Malla Reddy University in Dulapally.

The demonstrators, asserting that Malla Reddy and his associates had encroached on 130 out of 360 plots, urged the present A. Revnath Reddy-led government to intervene and ensure justice. Malla Reddy, currently an MLA from Medchal constituency, faced placard-wielding protestors who gathered in front of Praja Bhavan, the official residence of the Deputy Chief Minister, where public grievances are heard during the Praja Vani program held every Tuesday and Friday.

The banner displayed by Sri Mallikarjuna Sagar Welfare and Development Society read ‘Malla Reddy land grabbing victims.’ Victims recounted their struggles, claiming that despite owning the plots since 1990, attempts to construct were thwarted by those asserting false ownership.

This accusation comes in the wake of a previous case where Malla Reddy and seven others were booked for allegedly encroaching 47 acres of tribal land in Keshavaram village. The complainant, Kethavath Bikshapathi, accused the defendants of illegally occupying ancestral land through fraud during the election period. Malla Reddy refuted the allegations, vowing to approach the court.

Malla Reddy, a prominent BRS leader, operates a private university and a network of educational institutions, including engineering and medical colleges and hospitals. The fresh accusations add to the legal challenges faced by the politician in recent times.
