0

Hyderabad :- In response to a widely circulated video depicting Praja Palana applications strewn across the Balanagar flyover, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) took swift action on Tuesday, suspending Tax Section Superintendent, M. Mahender.

The civic body’s order attributes Mahender’s suspension to his oversight in handling forms collected in Circle 3 – Hayathnagar, which spilled onto the road while being transported by a private employee of the data entry agency on a two-wheeler.

The suspension order, effective immediately under sub-rule (1) of Rule 8 of Telangana Civil Services (CC&A) Rules, 1991, cites negligence on the part of the officer. It emphasizes Mahender’s failure to supervise the transportation of the forms, leading to the alarming incident.

Supreme Court Overrules Gujarat Government’s Decision in Bilkis Bano Case

0

New Delhi :- In a significant ruling on Monday, the Supreme Court overturned the Gujarat government’s decision to grant remission to 11 convicts involved in the gangrape of Bilkis Bano and the murder of seven family members during the 2002 Gujarat riots.

The court declared that the Gujarat government lacked jurisdiction to entertain the remission application, emphasizing that the appropriate government for such decisions is the state where the accused were sentenced. The Maharashtra government is identified as the competent authority in this matter.

Justices B V Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan highlighted that the Gujarat government’s actions were based on a nullified order from May 2022, alleging the suppression of facts and fraud on the court.

The 11 convicts were released on August 15, 2022, under Gujarat’s 1992 remission and premature release policy. Radheshyam Shah, one of the convicts, sought Supreme Court intervention after completing 15 years and four months in jail.

Responding to the release, Bilkis Bano expressed shock, describing it as one of the most gruesome crimes in the country’s history. She moved the Supreme Court, stating that the mass premature release had deeply affected society’s conscience.

Bilkis, 21 years old and pregnant at the time, endured a horrific gangrape during the 2002 Gujarat riots. The release of the convicts stirred renewed attention to this tragic episode, prompting the Supreme Court’s intervention and the subsequent annulment of the remission decision by the Gujarat government.

Khammam : – Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has called for a political alliance in support of Sonia Gandhi, urging parties with an affinity for Telangana not to contest against her in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Speaking at his native village, Snanala Lakshmipuram of Wyra mandal in the district, Deputy CM Bhatti expressed disappointment that despite allegations by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah about the Kaleshwaram project being misused by the BRS party, no concrete action had been taken.

He claimed that the Central government’s indifference towards the Kaleshwaram issue was due to an understanding between the BJP and the BRS. Bhatti challenged BJP leaders demanding a CBI inquiry to address the matter with their central leadership.

In response to concerns about the impartiality of a CBI investigation, Bhatti revealed that the State government is considering an inquiry by a sitting judge into the Kaleshwaram issue.

Despite this, he criticized Telangana BJP leaders for making irresponsible comments on the matter. Bhatti disclosed that a report on irregularities in Mission Bhagiratha is being prepared and will be released soon.

Additionally, Bhatti informed that the government is contemplating strengthening government universities and introducing professional courses to help students face global competition. Plans are underway to establish skill development universities in every district to address the challenges posed by globalization.
