Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a woman named Sunita from Ambedkar Colony, Shadnagar, has accused the Shadnagar police of subjecting her to third-degree torture. The incident occurred after she was brought to the police station in connection with a theft case.
Sunita was reportedly taken into custody along with her husband, Bheemaiah, and their 13-year-old son following a complaint lodged by Nagendra, a resident of Ambedkarnagar. Nagendra had reported the theft of 24 tolas of gold and Rs. 2 lakh in cash from his house on July 24.
According to Sunita, her husband was released shortly after being brought to the station, but she was not as fortunate. She alleged that a group of policemen tied her hands and legs with a rope and beat her with leather belts, demanding that she confess to a crime she did not commit. She claimed that this torture took place in front of her young son.
The police reportedly managed to recover one tola of gold and Rs. 4,000 in cash from Sunita before releasing her.
When contacted, DCP (Shamshabad) B. Rajesh confirmed that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident following a complaint. He assured that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
