Following a widespread global outage, Meta-owned WhatsApp and Instagram services have been restored. The two popular communication apps were inaccessible to many users worldwide starting around 11:45 pm IST Wednesday. Users attempting to log in to the apps or use WhatsApp web were greeted with an error message indicating the services were unavailable.
In response to the outage, WhatsApp issued a statement: “We know some people are experiencing issues right now, we’re working on getting things back to 100% for everyone as quickly as possible.”
During the outage, Instagram users faced difficulties refreshing their feeds or viewing the latest Stories.
Downdetector, a website that tracks web outages, recorded a significant increase in user reports of issues with WhatsApp and Instagram.
This isn’t the first time Meta’s services have experienced outages. In March, Instagram, Facebook, and Threads were inaccessible to many users, with some reporting sudden logouts from their accounts and difficulties logging back in, especially for those using two-factor authentication. The issues affected both the app and the website.
