Hyderabad, Jan 5: In a heartbreaking incident, Renu Sri, an 18-year-old first-year engineering student at Gitam University, Hyderabad, tragically leapt to her death from the fifth floor of the university building on Friday.
The incident unfolded at the varsity’s Rudraram campus in Sangareddy district, near Hyderabad. Renu Sri, a Computer Science Engineering student, had joined the university just three months ago.
A disturbing video capturing the incident circulated widely on social media. The footage shows Renu sitting on the parapet wall, engrossed in her mobile phone. Subsequently, she puts the phone down, leans forward while holding the parapet wall with one hand, and takes the fatal leap, resulting in multiple injuries and immediate fatality.
The distressing cries of witnesses witnessing the incident can be heard in the shared video.
Police promptly shifted Renu Sri’s body to Area Hospital Patancheru for an autopsy. Her family resides in the Madhapur area of Hyderabad. The motive behind her tragic decision remains unknown. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.
