Voter Count, Gender Distribution, and Youth Engagement in Focus as State Prepares for Special Summary Revision
Hyderabad, August 21, 2023 : As the preparations for the 2nd Special Summary Revision (SSR) gain momentum, Telangana State takes the spotlight with its intriguing voter statistics. Revealed in the draft roll published by the Election Commission of India on Monday, the state boasts a total voter count of 3,06,42,333. This includes 1,53,73,066 male voters, 1,52,1,797 female voters, and 2,133 individuals belonging to the third gender category.
Diving into the specifics, Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj provided an insightful breakdown. The comprehensive count encompasses 3,06,26,996 general electors, accompanied by 2,742 non-resident Indian (NRI) electors and 15,337 service electors. Additionally, an encouraging figure of 4,76,597 young electors, aged between 18 and 19, adds dynamism to the state’s voter landscape.
Highlighting the evolution since the previous SSR conducted on January 1, 2023, Raj highlighted significant developments. The final roll of SSR-2023 published on January 5 began with 2,99,77,659 electors. Impressively, the subsequent phase witnessed the addition of 8,31,520 new electors, while 1,82,183 electors were removed, reflecting the ongoing refinement of the electoral rolls.
The timeline for filing claims and objections spans from August 21 to September 19, offering citizens an opportunity to submit their claims via the designated Form-6 for voter enrollment. Moreover, individuals facing wrongful deletion of their names from the electoral roll have recourse. They can utilize the 15-day window, as stipulated by Section 24 of the Representation of People’s Act, 1950, to file appeals with the District Election Officer or submit Form-6 throughout this phase of the summary revision exercise, ensuring a participatory and inclusive electoral process
