In the wake of assuming power in Telangana, Congress shifts focus to upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Hyderabad :- With a vision to secure a significant presence in the national political landscape, the Congress party in Telangana is gearing up for a head-on collision with the BJP in the impending Lok Sabha elections. The party’s ambitious goal is to clinch victory in 12 out of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, thereby contributing substantially to the overall tally of the Congress-led INDIA alliance.
As the BJP contemplates projecting Modi once again as its prime ministerial face, the Congress aims to counter this strategy by positioning itself and the INDIA bloc as a credible alternative to the saffron party.
The Telangana Congress intensifies its campaign by extending an invitation to former Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the state. In a bid to stand alone in Telangana, the party is poised to project Rahul Gandhi as its prime ministerial candidate during the elections.
During the electoral campaign, the Congress plans to scrutinize alleged failures of the Modi Government, emphasizing issues such as polarization, rising prices, unemployment, and challenges faced by small businesses due to policies like demonetization and GST. Additionally, the party aims to underscore the government’s perceived neglect of farmers and its commitment to Telangana’s development, emphasizing unfulfilled promises outlined in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act.
The Congress leaders intend to question the BJP’s inaction over the last decade regarding corruption scandals involving the KCR-led BRS Government. Accusations of collusion between the BJP and BRS are likely to be reiterated, with the Congress demanding investigations into various issues, including the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project.
In response, BJP leaders challenge the Congress to seek a CBI inquiry into the alleged scams and question the delay in initiating investigations. The political discourse escalates as both parties exchange accusations, with the Congress asserting its commitment to judicial probes into various irregularities.
The Congress plans to highlight its achievements in implementing guarantees made during the Assembly polls, showcasing initiatives such as free bus rides for women in state-owned TSRTC. However, these efforts will be closely scrutinized by the Opposition.
Setting an ambitious goal of securing 12 seats, the Congress acknowledges the BJP’s potential stronghold on four seats it won in 2019. The party anticipates support from allies like CPI and TJS, while the Left parties’ unconditional backing remains uncertain.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, leading the charge, calls upon party leaders to strive for victory in at least 12 Lok Sabha seats. As part of preparations, leaders will embark on district visits, connecting with voters at the grassroots level.
In the 2019 elections, the Congress secured three out of 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state. With political dynamics evolving, the Congress faces the challenge of countering both the ruling BRS and the BJP, each vying for dominance in Telangana. The upcoming Lok Sabha polls are poised to be a crucial battleground for these political forces, with aspirations of influencing the national political landscape.
