Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy emphasized the Telangana government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare and called for global assistance during his address at the World Economic Forum’s CET conference on Food Systems and Local Action in Davos on Thursday.

Describing Telangana as a farmers’ government, Chief Minister Reddy appealed to global leaders to contribute to making farming a profitable venture. He began his speech by sharing personal insights into his agricultural roots, emphasizing the cultural significance of agriculture.

Born in a small village as a farmer’s son, Chief Minister Reddy expressed his firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by farmers in India. He highlighted the pressing issue of farmers’ suicides, attributing it to difficulties in selling produce, obtaining bank loans, lack of profitability, and limited access to modern technology.

Reddy outlined the Congress party’s initiatives, including the Minimum Support Price policy and the direct financial support provided to farmers through Rythu Bharosa. He articulated his vision to elevate farmers’ earnings beyond MSP, comparable to returns on investments in the corporate sector. This, he believes, could significantly reduce farmers’ suicides.

In a call for global collaboration, Chief Minister Reddy emphasized the historical role of farmers in sustaining the world and urged the international community to reciprocate by supporting farmers in their pursuit of prosperity.
