Customs Authorities at Hyderabad Airport Uncover Major Gold and Contraband Smuggling Operation

Due to the readiness of officials from the Customs Department at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Hyderabad (RGIA), a series of large-scale confiscations of gold, narcotics, foreign currency, and foreign cigarettes is ongoing.


Last month in July, Customs officials at Hyderabad Airport had seized crores worth of these items. However, this series of confiscations is still ongoing.


On August 5th, Customs officials from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Hyderabad apprehended three passengers arriving from Dubai and Jeddah, seizing a total of 3,742 grams of gold.


The total value of the seized gold was reported as 2 crore 29 lakh 55 thousand rupees. These passengers had concealed the gold in paste form, hidden inside their underwear, portable speakers, torchlights, and battery compartments. One of the passengers even had 3 gold capsules in his large intestine.


According to information from Customs officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Hyderabad, on Tuesday, August 8th, based on specific information about the passengers, two Indian citizens arriving from Dubai were apprehended, and 1,527 grams of gold with a value of 93 lakh 26 thousand rupees were seized. Both passengers had hidden the gold within their clothes. Further investigations are underway in this case.”
