“Watch the Video: Rail Tracks Washed Away”

Mahabubabad, Telangana – Rail traffic on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada route came to a standstill on Sunday after torrential rains led to the washing away of railway tracks at several locations within Mahabubabad district. The disruption has significantly impacted passenger movements, with multiple trains halted at various stations.

Among the affected trains, the Machilipatnam Express and Simhapuri Express were forced to stop at Mahabubabad railway station. The situation became particularly severe at Tallapusapalli railway station in Kesamudram mandal, where more than ten feet of the track was partially washed away due to the intense flooding. In another incident, about thirty feet of railway track was left hanging in the air after the Peddamori cheruvu at Initikanne overflowed, completely washing away the track bed.

Efforts to restore the affected railway tracks have been underway; however, they are being hindered by the continuous flow of floodwater. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, but the heavy rains have made it difficult to carry out the necessary repairs promptly.

The heavy rainfall in the region has been unprecedented, with extremely heavy downpours recorded in several areas: Kesamudram (29.8 cm), Nellikudur (41.6 cm), Mahabubabad (33 cm), Kuravi (31.9 cm), Maripeda (32.4 cm), Narsimhulapet (38.9 cm), Chinnagudur (42.8 cm), and Inugurthy (43.8 cm).

In response to the crisis, local law enforcement stepped in to assist the stranded passengers. Mahabubabad Rural Circle Inspector Saravaiah and Kesamudram Sub-Inspector Muralidhar coordinated the distribution of food, water bottles, and biscuit packets to those onboard the halted trains at Mahabubabad station. The timely intervention by the police ensured that the passengers received essential supplies while they awaited further developments.

The railway department is working on emergency measures to restore normalcy, but it may take some time before the tracks are fully operational again. Passengers are advised to stay updated on the situation and plan their travel accordingly as authorities strive to mitigate the impact of the disruption.
