Glass Panels Shattered at Owaisi’s Residence in Pre-Independence Day Incident, Stirring Security Apprehensions

As the nation prepared for Independence Day celebrations, an unsettling occurrence marred the scene.

Just a day prior to the festivities, another incident was added to the series of attacks on All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi’s residence in the national capital.

Delhi Police reported that two glass panels on the doors of his residence were found shattered on Monday, August 14. Reacting to this alarming situation, Owaisi expressed his exasperation.

He pointed out that every time he raises significant matters in Parliament, his house becomes a target for stone pelting. He further disclosed that he had recently received a threatening SMS and had duly reported it to the police, sharing both the message’s content and the sender’s number.

He criticized the authorities for requesting him to issue a letter permitting access to his Call Detail Records (CDR), contending that it was a matter of privacy.

A senior police official confirmed that no objects or stones were found at the scene after the attack. The investigation is ongoing, with the police conducting further checks.

This incident is not the first time that Owaisi’s residence has been targeted. In February 2023, he reported a similar attack on his Delhi residence, marking the fourth such incident since 2014. He lamented, “My Delhi residence has been attacked again.

This is the fourth incident since 2014. Earlier tonight, I returned from Jaipur & was informed by my domestic help that a bunch of miscreants pelted stones that resulted in broken windows.

The Delhi Police must catch them immediately.” In a separate incident in February, Owaisi’s car was targeted in Hapur while he was returning to Delhi after attending election-related events.

Though he escaped without injuries, his vehicle’s tires were punctured. The UP Police apprehended three individuals in connection with the incident. Additionally, Owaisi called for Prime Minister Modi to condemn the demolition in Nuh, Haryana.

He questioned the absence of law or court intervention, emphasizing that the demolition violated the Supreme Court order in the Jahangirpuri case, which stated that due process of law should be followed. Owaisi hoped that in his Independence Day speech, the Prime Minister would address the targeted violence against a specific community across various states in the country.
